I actually don't understand the post in which you explain why you think L had to torture Misa. Sorry if I'm being annoying but I'd love to understand it. On the one hand, you say: "if he has confined her with rather normal conditions only to isolate her from the First Kira and preventing her from using her powers to kill him - that would only be a matter of time when he wouldâve had to let her go, because people wouldâve started to ask questions". Why? People were already asking questions - the rest of the task force. And yet, they let L keep torturing Misa in the end. How would keeping her imprisoned in normal conditions have raised more questions? It still would have been a secret imprisonment that only the task force and Watari knew about - who would have asked any questions? And you also say "If he was interrogating her in much softer conditions, there was much higher chance that with time either the First Kira will find out the way to contact the Second, or the First Kira will simply kill Misa". Why? I might be missing something but I don't really follow. How would the First Kira find a way to contact Misa in a scenario in which Misa is still imprisoned but not being as tortured as she is in canon? And if the First Kira has her real name, he can kill her anytime, whether she is imprisoned or not. How does torturing Misa stop the First Kira from killing her? Then in another post you said: "If L didnât care about human rights, the easiest option would be simply to kill Misa and cover it up as an accident." Why would he have done that? He didn't want her dead; he wanted a confession and evidence of how the Kira killings were executed.
Hello!
Nothing annoying here, Iâm glad we can have a conversation.
About âpeople who will start asking questionsâ, I meant people outside the investigation. If Misa, as a public person, is missing for a long time, it would attract attention, thatâs it.
âHow would the First Kira find a way to contact the Second if Misa is imprisoned but not tortured?â
So, I considered her immobilisation and lack of sight part of the torture, and I was talking about that. What I was thinking is that L made these kind of arrangements for safetyâs sake, because he saw Kira power evolving (I mean from a person capable of killing knowing just a name and a face to being able to kill just seeing a face), so he didnât want any more surprises, but now I find it highly unlikely. Right now I donât think this point matters at all.
âWhy would L want to kill Misa?â
Because his life was at risk. Misa saw his face. Of course L wanted the information above all, but he couldâve killed her and continued the investigation in safer conditions. But he didnât, even if it meant he was in danger himself.
But actually, now, when Iâve had a fresh look on Death Note events, I think there is only one point that really matters: L placed a bet on a quick confession. His primary goal was to stop two most dangerous murderers in the world. Iâm not âpro-tortureâ, but I can clearly see how Lâs actions are justified. Serial killers are not to coddle.

Well well, who is here again.
Iâve finally rewatched Death Note! And again, Iâm reminded about how much I love it, and how heartbreaking and painful it is. A story about finding excuses, huge egos and wasted lives.
I wonât promise to be active, but Iâll try to answer my previous asks and maybe pick up some previous topics I didnât follow through. I am sorry it took so long to appear here again, but Iâm very satisfied with the break I had. It was much needed.

Hi there! I wanted to comment about Misa as being "poorly written" by the other Anon. This is also a spoiler alert for anyone who doesn't want to know a slice of the ending. Far from it. She was a key essential character throughout the ordeal along with Light gaining this undeserved power. Can you imagine what would have happened if Light got his way and Misa was never intercepted near the end? Many would have died. The whole investigative team would have died. Anyone who Light ever considered a threat would have died.
The End
Thatâs true, Misa was always very important, so saying that she was there as an âadditionâ to Light or purely for fanservice is just baseless, in my opinion.

It shows that I have one incoming ask, but when I enter my asks, there is none.
I donât know what is happening, so, if any of you wrote something to me, I apologise, I have no idea how to fix this. Maybe you could try writing in the comments or directly?

I didnât know Die wrote the English himself, I thought big gurl was a mistranslation. How do you know this? Thanks for adding it!
I donât know for sure if he writes himself on Instagram, I just assume it.
Sometimes his captions on Instagram are in Japanese only, but much more often they are in both Japanese and English, and sometimes even only in English.
As much as I know, Die is believed to be the best English speaker among Dir En Grey guys, so I assume he writes his captions himself.

Everytime I hear The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson Those!Light just pops up in my head. There is some bitter arrogance in this song that reminds me of him instantly. It is also kind of relevant to canon Light Yagami.

Sorry, it doesnât make sense to me.
If, as you say, itâs all about the interpretation, why do you say the narrative created by a sexist writer is what shows Misa as delusional and obnoxious?
It seems to me that the narrative shows us Misaâs personality from different sides, giving us every tool to understand her and think of her as someone far more complex than just a stupid obsessive girl. If the purpose of the narrative was to show her as simply irritating and obsessive, we wouldnât have been told anything that would explain her or make us feel compassionate towards her.
If a reader doesnât see her complexity, isnât that the readerâs fault?
Also, I have decided to make a separate post about this issue. I think Iâm onto something.
Iâm hoping this dialogue didnât sound rude or mean, I respect you and your opinion, but Iâm also very determined to figure out the truth about this issue. Sorry about long writing!
I still havenât reread or rewatched Death Note, but Iâm left speechless by some posts lately that claim Misa is a âpoorly writtenâ character.
For me, Misa is one of the deepest and most complex characters in the whole Death Note.
I donât like her, but through the story I think I see her.
I see a lost girl who desperately avoids taking responsibility. She wants someone strong and safe to lead her. She craves love and connection, but doesnât know how to get it in a healthy way - or maybe she knows, but is terrified of rejection, to the point that she lies to herself (remember her coming out of that meeting with Kyomi, telling Mogi that she âwonâ).
Really, a genuine question, is Misa really âbadly writtenâ?

I have a genuine question.
You are welcome to answer in the comments or asks if you want.
What exactly makes you think Ohbaâs writing was misogynistic towards Misa? Please, point out particular situations in Death Note plot that made you think so.

Iâm afraid I disagree with you completely.
Itâs not the narrative that portrays Misa as obnoxious - itâs Lightâs opinion of her. Also, I donât see why the narrative should teach people how to think about a certain character.
I also donât see how fanservice and comic relief makes mockery of her trauma. A character can be tragic and funny simultaneously. The parts that can be called âfanserviceâ can be also interpreted as a part of her personality - Misa is flirtatious and likes to get attention through being attractive. And in comic relief - I doubt she can match Matsuda and L. How is comic relief offensive?
I donât see why the narrative should have interest in Misa (and anyone else) besides her involvement with the storyline. Even L is less explained than her. This is a story about Light Yagami, he should be explained, his story should make a meaningful statement, and if nobody else is explained, I think thatâs completely fine.

I tried to draw L some time ago.
It was not a success I wanted, but I try to love him the way he is. Itâs not his fault I abandoned drawing for such a long time đ¤ˇđť

hi, how are you?.
Hi! Iâm fine, thank you.
Right now Iâm concentrated on my health and some other important things.
Unfortunately, I have no energy to be active in this blog now.
I remember about the stuff I didnât answer to, especially one long ask, where a person was disagreeing with my points about Misaâs confinement.
To answer that ask, I felt the need to dive deeper into that topic, and that means to rewatch Death Note and reread the manga, which I just canât do at the moment.
I certainly feel that this topic of morality/distinction between Light and L is worth to explore. I have ideas, but not words to express them, yet.
I hope one day I can do it.
Have a happy holiday season, anon!
