It is all season that the only scenes in which Laszlo seems to be more himself are with Karen. I liked their interactions and I think Karen was quite interesting. But, the romance between them is forced as hell to me, he really did not seem to be interested in her romantically. That kiss? I mean, what was that?

Was it too hard to make them friends?

Also, Mary? I don't think someone like Laszlo will trust to love someone so easily again after what happened.

Now that all 8 episodes of season 2 are out I can finally get rid of all these pictures I took back in October 2019 when the crew filmed right under my university’s nose in Budapest :D The content might be a tiny bit spoilery and also it’s going to be longer than War and Peace so I’m putting it under a “readmore” for your convenience.

but really, the finale of angel of darkness was incredibly disappointing to me.

season one was a wonderfully well-made show that i found followed the book very well. the casting was on point, i never got the feeling that anyone was being sidelined or made to not matter. the plot twists weren’t predictable, but they all had a reason, and all of the actors had chemistry.

but season two was nothing like the show that we all started. the fleshed our characters were made one dimensional, laszlo specifically losing the aspects that made him so interesting in season one. the storyline very loosely, if at all, followed the angel of darkness novel. for example, there was zero reason to now include roosevelt in the story since he was in the book (brian geraghty even has a moustache at the time of filming) - they just chose not to incorporate that part of the storyline. and that’s the problem, the writers took so many liberties with the show that it’s just a shell of what it was based off of. and the most infuriating part of the story was what they did to marcus. it’s not just people being sad complaining about marcus having been killed. his death in no way effected the outcome of the storyline. it didn’t move things along, it didn’t make it better - it was pointless and cruel. marcus survived in the book but in the show they decided to kill him for shock value. and if writers could learn anything from the mess that was game of thrones season 8: shocking deaths don’t make your story more compelling.

i’m just so disappointed. season one was a well-developed, mostly faithful adaptation of the first novel. there was clearly a lot of effort out into making it a wonderful season. but season two was nothing but a cheap addition to the story that ruined the ending that we had from season one.
