Research and Investigation Skills Development - Month 5
When I went into this course, I had no expectations for it. As I worked into it some more, my expectations grew. The experience of taking this course came with some pretty different structures and analyzing that it took me aside in some aspects of my learning. I expected with this course to have better research skills, and instead learned that this course focused more on grammar than investigative skills.
I at times felt that I was more concerned with grammar than I was with research methods for looking up people to interview, or whatever the subject had to be on for the specific week. If I had any advice to give to future students who wish to take this course is that to come in it with a humble attitude. Please be very weary of your grammar and punctuation skills, as this course will focus more on that than anything else. The subject of research will be discussed but you will have a harder time worrying about what you are going to write, specifically grammar, than your true subject matter.
In future endeavors I would like to take more classes on research and investigative skills that truly give a focus on the subject. Research is already a difficult subject as is and there is much to do with is when it comes to truly finding specific information. It is especially essential when it comes to journalism, for one must always put in the correct source of information that entails with the subject. Investigating is and can be difficult at times but it can also be fun and very knowledge based. It taught me a great deal and I will continue as well to learn more on how to use it in my professional career, for there is always something new to learn when it comes to researching or investigating the subject at hand.

Rice Water Trial
Okay, so... I was on Snapchat the other day just looking at some of the news feed on there and something about skincare came up and she talks about "don't spend your money on all of these expensive skin care products" - okay, cool, I'M intrigued once again by another 'spend less money' post but never follow through. Well I'm 30 dammit and I am tired of NOT following through.
Aaaanywho... There was a product that this lady on Snapchat named (sorry, I do not remember her name because I was not planning at first to blog about this), and it's called Rice Water Bright by The Face Shop. I instantly though "Oooo Horchata! Those aren't too bad for you because rice water is supposed to be really good for you!" Yeah, I got excited. So I thought that I'd buy that on my next trip to which ever store I so happen upon that might sell it. Hard to friggin find! So I then decided to make my own damn rice water. Looking up all of this rice water stuff and how I should actually go about it I came across an interesting site that not only gave me a recipe to try, but also gave me information on how good it is for you. This site is Healthy and Natural World. So all I had to do after seeing this glorious bit of information was to check to make sure I had everything: Rice ✓ Water ✓ And I proceeded to follow the very simple recipe. So I will share with you over the next week as to how it will hopefully change my skin. If you check out the link, I am doing the simple way first which is no boiling involved.  Here are my pics for the first night of me doing this. I will show it made and then will show my FACE! =)
As you can see, I have acne scars (damn teenage years) and I even broke out more after coming home from the glorious, non damn sticky, humid weather in California. Ahhh Cali...  Okay, snap out of it Sarani...  This rice water is supposed to help tighten skin and even reduce those scars. I know it will more than likely take longer than a week, however, I can already see a slight glow to my face on the after picture. My face even feels softer too - too bad ya can't feel it. Oooooooh-Aaaaahhhh
Alright, I think I have babbled enough for tonight. If y'all wanna try and don't feel like clicking on the link then just do 1/2 cup of rice and 2 cups of water and let it sit for 30 minutes. I did also mix the rice first with 1 cup of water just to wash off dirt and impurities.  Nighty night, y'all!

Legal Aspect of Media - Month 4
What was your favorite assignment in this course? Please explain.
My favorite assignment in this course was not truly one in particular but if I had to pick it would be the assignment on copyright infringement. I feel that learning about that law was truly essential for me especially with what I would like to invest with my career. There are many laws and to be knowledgeable with them would truly keep me out of any unnecessary trouble when it comes to the future.
Of the course topics covered this month, which one(s) do you think will be most helpful to you as a communications professional?
I feel that all topics were helpful because they took real life cases and scenarios and put me as someone who would have this type of issues come up possibly one day. I think that to truly understand the topics is helpful especially when it comes to the cases that were studied and researched.
How will the knowledge you acquired this month prepare you to handle potential legal issues in the communications industry?
The knowledge that was acquired will keep me on top of things especially if I become in charge of many people one day. I would really like my staff to be well informed of each aspect of these laws so that I and them can keep whatever company we are working for or working with in a safe and constructive environment for everyone at hand.
Did this course meet your expectations? Please explain.
Yes the course did meet and far exceed my expectations. The teacher was very helpful when I would send her messages and she also is very well informed on the subject of legal aspects in media. I know now many things about the laws in media that I was not fully aware of before.

Writing for Interactive Media - Month 3
Writing for interactive media was a very substantial course to my overall goal. One of the original goals I had put down was to engage audiences with the new storytelling methods I will gain through experience with digital media, and this class gave me a true sense of accomplishing that overall goal. I learned that some stories are meant for different audiences and not every member in the audience will be willing to work with the storyteller. At times finding the right person to interview for some of the stories was a bit difficult, because many of these stories that I put down come from a very personal experience for these people. They are not only at times telling me what their job consists of but how it effects them on a personal level as well.
Many of the family members of these people were not willing to let their relatives speak with me because of how personal some of these feelings and emotions were. When one begins to speak on the disabilities and illnesses of a person, they become quite touchy on the subject. I feel that I myself was able to put away a lot of my personal interferences with this class and the stories that were brought through. It gave me a stronger sense of knowing who to seek out for interviews and where exactly to seek them out and not to look in places where these people just do not want to be approached. I felt that this class pushed that boundary at times on how to relay a story and how it is felt and brought about to an audience. Giving these stories a voice was always my favorite part because many of these issues have not even been heard of before. 5

New Media & Communications - Month 2
According to my goals:
1-    To find useful storytelling methods to reach my intended audience
2-    To effectively communicate through new methods of multimedia platforms
3-    To learn and gain an understanding of the new methods of digital communications
I do believe that I am still on my way to attaining these goals, but that is okay. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to properly communicating through multimedia platforms but that is the whole point of me taking these courses. I have however learned how to not be afraid of Twitter and just go for it after studying how many others take to Twitter. I have found that a huge storytelling method for me is to pick apart stories – break them down to better and fully understand them. This is a process I am still working on but I believe I am getting better at it.
I have read some of the reading from the book that was specified for this particular course, but I definitely want to get through the whole of it.
I did not realize that the process for attaining my goals for this course would take longer than four weeks but I am ready to continue to work towards these goals of mine. I will always strive for better within myself and to always make my stories newsworthy.
As I have previously explained to my lovely and helpful instructor, I am stubborn when it comes to some critiques as I am set in some of my ways, but I know there are things that I do need to change and I most definitely will, I just have to get used to it first. I am ultimately working towards being a known photojournalist, to help spread ‘the word’ – whatever that word may be at the time – so I guess the main topic I have learned within this course is how to better take constructive criticism and actually be constructive with it.

Don’t Fear
2014

Most people probably don’t think of motivation when they first think about Jim Carrey, but sometimes the comedians of the world are also the world’s wisemen. In this speech, Carrey explains the reasons for choosing to love our desires and not letting fear hold us back from taking risks. Embarking on my Mastery Journey is full of unknowns, but I know the risks I am taking are worth it. I will never be able to succeed in my goals if I don’t take some leaps of faith. This speech is a great reminder that we can succeed when we take chances.

I have been actually having a rather confusing past few weeks with new changes at work not allowing me to do much else than to focus on that. I moved over to a slightly new spot within my position with more responsibility and although I did want it and asked for it, I am trying to adapt to it but in a way to where it will not stress me out. I have not been stressed out by it, just taking my time with it and letting The Good Lord guide me through it all. With all of that being said my inspiration for this past week has been me looking forward to being Baptized today 12.18.2016. In my 30 years of life this is my first time being Baptized and I feel great about it. I feel slightly different. My daughter joined me in this today and I could not be more proud for the both of us. God inspires me everyday and I know he will not steer me wrong.

For the time being I have to take a screenshot of my logo that I made with logogarden.com. Once I find out how to save it for free then I will be able to actually save it. I love the simplicity of it to represent journalism.
