If you haven’t started already, start archiving/downloading everything. Save it to an external hard drive if you’re able. Collecting physical media is also a good idea, if you’re able.
Download your own/your favorite fanfics. Save as much as you can from online sources/digital libraries. Recipes, tutorials, history, LGBTQ media, etc. It has been claimed, though I can’t find the exact source if true, that some materials about the Revolutionary War were deleted from the Library of Congress.
It’s always better to be safe than sorry and save and preserve what you can. Remember that cloud storage also is not always reliable!
Library of Congress - millions of books, films and video, audio recordings, photographs, newspapers, maps, manuscripts.
Internet Archive - millions of free texts, movies, software, music, websites, and more. Has been taken offline multiple times because of cyber attacks last month, it has recently started archiving again.
Anna's Archive - 'largest truly open library in human history.’
Queer Liberation Library - queer literature and resources. Does require applying for a library membership to browse and borrow from their collection.
List of art resources - list of art resources complied on tumblr back in 2019. Not sure if all links are still operational now, but the few I clicked on seemed to work.
Alexis Amber - TikToker who is an archivist who's whole page is about archiving. She has a database extensively recording the events of Hurricane Katrina.
I'll be adding more to this list, if anyone else wants to add anything feel free!

“…we were sleeping. I've been sleeping. And I've been turning away from the truth I wanted not to face.
There is a wound that won't heal at the center of the galaxy. There is a darkness reaching like rust into everything around us. We let it grow, and now it's here. It's here and it's not visiting anymore. It wants to stay…”

Vasant and I took Dad with us last night to see the auroras. There was only an hour and a half with clear skies, between 1:30am-3am, and we made the most of it before the clouds rolled back in.
The colors weren’t as vibrant as May’s storm (a persistent fog off the Snoqualmie River might also be to blame for that,) but there was so much more movement compared to the one five months ago. It was also great getting Jupiter and the Pleiades.
Dad was beside himself—I’m really glad we got to make those memories with him.

I’m so excited to share that my story, “In a Clearing on the Darkest Day”, has been published in the Autumn 2024 issue of Kaleidotrope! This is one of my favorite stories I’ve written—an Ibsen-inspired fairy tale about memory and grief.
I’ve been in novel and film mode this year and last, this is my first short fiction since 2022. I miss sharing my short stories with readers, so if you read it, let me know.
The amazing cover artwork is by @carlydraws.

Spent this evening writing with @clairesalcedo. This is her last week before fall classes begin (she’s a professor) and we’re setting aside several days to write some short story drafts we can polish throughout the fall.
It’s like we’re late summer canning fiction, not fruit.

I'm weekending regularly for the first time all year. This last one was my third weekend off in a row. There are two main ADHD responses to deadlines: avoidance or addiction. The fear is, if you don't hyperfocus on deadlines, you could lapse into a period of deadline avoidance. It's hard to find the middle, but I've been trying.
After the last major deadline I had this summer (after 8 months of nonstop deadlines), I knew it was important to be disciplined with my time off, even from creative work. This weekend, I went to a concert, the farmer's market, brunch with friends, and binged really good TV.
There's strength to my ability to hyperfocus when it comes to deadlines, and so much internalized fear from years of working against my neurodivergence instead of with it when it comes to setting boundaries in regard to rest and work. So every weekend I take the time for myself, it still feels like a victory I negotiated with the parts of myself that have a hard time with the concept.

Finally crawling out a summer of deadlines for my novel, films we're working on, and my website design/illustration day job. I was really looking forward to diving into all the great TV I'd put off watching to make deadlines, especially Lady Jane and The Acolyte. 😑
I'm still going to watch them, but it’s such a turn off to come even a bit late and find a show’s cancelled—it’s not like I’m even half a year behind. I do not understand not giving shows time to find their audience.

I love you people who show kindness because "it's what you're supposed to do". I love you people who show kindess because they like being thanked. I love you people who show kindness because it makes them feel good. I love you people who show kindness because they were shown kindness first. I love you people who show kindness for "selfish" reasons. I love you people who show kindness for the "wrong" reasons. I love you people who show kindness in a body that rejects the very notion. Your kindness is not any lesser because of its motivations. The good you added to the world is just as valuable as someone doing it for the "right" reasons. Your effort is seen. Your effort is valued.

If it sounds like the composer is trying to blast you with the orchestra until you're as deaf as he is, it's Beethoven.
If it sounds like the composer might be a vampire, it's Bach.
If it sounds like the composer is trying to set the violins on fire, it's Vivaldi.

Novel vs all other work...
Working all weekend. I went straight from the novel push to three film projects (not to mention, all my website and illustration clients) and haven't had more than a few days off all summer, but I have way more attention to spare when I'm working on film than when I'm submerged in the writing and revision process of a novel. For me, novels are all-consuming, and everything else, even when I'm slammed, feels lighter in comparison.
That's probably down to the collaborative nature of film or the back-and-forth I have with my design clients. But yeah, I've been on social media a ton (for me, especially the last few years) since I officially started sending the book out into the wild (agent hunting).
All that said, after the next few deadlines are met, I need a whole week off. Maybe get back in my garden. Work on short fiction. Binge a ton of shows.

Draft 8 of my book is finished! It’s on its way to lovely writer friends for feedback! I did a complete, from scratch rewrite of Draft 7—while working on two documentaries and my web/illustration job. So this particular draft took FOREVER. I’m looking forward to putting the book down for a few months while I focus on film and return to mucking about with my short fiction.
So I’m allowing myself to start posting on socials again! I missed being in my online communities (although I got a lot done *not* posting.)
Hello!!

When I returned to social media, I thought it’d be with news about my book or our new doc. That can wait.
I am officially back on the apps because we took a day off and binged Ahsoka Ep1-5 and it’s perfect and I need to talk to other Dave Filoni devotees about these FEELINGS.
