I love folklore so much because depending on the location and era it comes from it's either the most terrifying concept or the dumbest thing you've ever heard

another thought for AAVE anon - I'm white, queer, & have strong echolalia. before I learned about the appropriation of AAVE by the white gay community, I tried out some of the "gay accent / slang" to try to fit in with my (mostly white) queer peers.
as I've stepped into more community with queer POC in general and especially Black folks, I've definitely slipped up and felt embarrassed / ashamed in the moment. it's been a great way for me to practice increasing my own emotional distress tolerance, acknowledging the progress I've made, and respecting how much I still have left to (un)learn.
perfectionism, black-and-white thinking, feeling entitled to emotional comfort...these are all keystones of white supremacy culture (among others). committing to unlearning them and choosing greater solidarity with my Black comrades is frankly the best work I've ever done - i believe you can do it too! <3
and honestly, I've found that the stronger my understanding of and empathy with the perspective of Black folks in general becomes, the easier it is for me to avoid appropriating AAVE because it just FEELS wrong & distasteful.
tl;dr - in the same way that (white) people are conditioned into racism, we can actually condition ourselves in the opposite direction, until we're able to fully *feel* the impact of disrespect and dehumanization on our Black comrades as the attack on our shared humanity that it is.

Essentially, a male employee approaching a mother and daughter to offer assistance with clothes shopping wouldn't make national headlines.

I like how the "Welcome Back" meme always lines up death days with birthdays, because it implies that souls only attach to hosts that have already exited the womb. Perhaps amniotic fluid repels souls (how could we use this?), or perhaps souls cannot differentiate between mother and child until the umbilical cord is severed. But I imagine the most common explanation would be that the soul enters the body via inhalation (at first breath), which would make the soul an airborne parasite. But to answer your question, no I cannot explain the gap in my resume.
