Prologue

A black tom cat slowly stepped out from a row of bushes, flicking his tail, from left to right, he headed towards a fallen tree in the middles of a clearing, with a grey she cat following close behind. “What are we doing here, Fallowfern?”, the tom cat whispered. Fallowferns whisker’s twitched in amusement - “be patient Hailstar, I just need you to remember what I told you earlier - a storm will come and a tree will fall”. The tom cat turned to face her, “honestly how often do you have to tell me that, it’s not that important that a tree will fall and my clan mates aren’t flea brained enough to stand under a falling tree”, he scowled. As soon as Hailstar finished talking, shrieking began to fill the hollow and the she cat began to speak again - “Thunderclan will fall just like this tree, yet will bring new life, just like the den this tree has now become.” The tom cat spun round, bushy tailed, to face the fallen tree and after a moment of silence, saw a fox and her cubs emerge outside of the confined area of the hollowed tree, one of the cubs slowly opened its eyes and Hailstar could see that it was blind. He looked up towards Fallowfern, “Why are you telling me this? I’m not part of Thunderclan, I am the leader of Shadowclan”.

“Because if you don’t keep your clan under control, the new life will die and with it Shadowclan will fall.”
