I knew it rains a lot here, but I haven’t seen the sun in days and im feeling the effects of it. I think of buying vitamin d, god knows my mom has told me to SO MANY TIMES, but I know its not really the sun a I crave. We are midway through December and the temperatures have not dropped below 0 yet. This time last year it was snowing steadily but only once this year and it didn’t even stick. maybe it’s a blessing and a curse. Because on one hand it seems as if the weather is mocking the houses with Christmas lawn decorations and fairy lights but on the other hand we are in the thick of finals and the moment we step out of the last exam the ground will be coated in the most magnificent snow, as if to say here you go, you earned it.
Ultimately I think what I really miss is not the sun or even snow, but snow days. Those magical school days when you enter first period with grey clouds and by lunchtime everybody is pelting snowballs at each other. Maybe its childish to reminisce about school only two years out of it, but there was something about snow days right before winter break (preferably after exams have passed) when melancholy and excitement permeated the air that even the teachers could no longer pretend to care about teaching anything and would simply go ok, how about we watch a movie instead. And there was a Christmas tree (!) in the lobby and candy grams being delivered and secret santa gifts sneaked into lockers. and now im trying to understand the difference between a jones reagent and pcc, but id rather be planning my new years outfit and stressing over gifts still needed to buy. Oh but im still doing that only its no longer pleasant and im no longer in high school and snow days are just an inconvenience to commuters.
