Like come on, ao3 could not be more specific about it. You have to be an active part of consenting to see adult content. Anybody complaining needs to learn to take responsibility for their own actions.

I think we, as a general community, need to start taking this little moment more seriously.

This, right here? This is asking for consent. It’s a legal necessity, yes, but it is also you, the reader, actively consenting to see adult content; and in doing so, saying that you are of an age to see it, and that you’re emotionally capable of handling it.

You find the content you find behind this warning disgusting, horrifying, upsetting, triggering? You consented. You said you could handle it, and you were able to back out at any time. You take responsibility for yourself when you click through this, and so long as the creator used warnings and tags correctly, you bear full responsibility for its impact on you.

“Children are going to lie about their age” is probably true, but that’s the problem of them and the people who are responsible for them, not the people that they lie to.

If you’re not prepared to see adult content, created by and for adults, don’t fucking click through this. And if you do, for all that’s holy, don’t blame anyone else for it.

This is so true! And also, speaking from personal experience being neurodivergent does not equate to being rude and is not an excuse (especially over text where you can re-read it before sending 🙄). I don't want anyone to be scared to comment on fanfiction (I feel like so many people just plain don't leave comments anymore, and that's sad) but please do consider if what you're saying could be unintentionally pressuring, rude, or mean for the author to read. It's free work they created in their spare time and shared to spread their love, joy, and ideas. ❤️

So a few days ago I got a comment on one of my stories. It was not the worst comment I have ever gotten but it was not nice either. I found it rude, demanding, and condescending. I confess, my reply to this comment was snarky and sarcastic.

I then got a reply from the poster claiming they were very blunt due to being neurodivergent and that they could not help it. They just wanted me to write them a story. I had ruined their good opinion of me.

I wrote back apologizing for hurting their feelings. I explained they had also hurt my feelings and that my response was partially in response to that, partially because I know who comments like that affect authors. That we work hard on our stories. I pointed out they had not even said they liked my story. I gave them advice on how they could have phrased their comment instead that would have made it less offensive to the author. At this point I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Yeah no, they sent another response calling it victim blaming and cyber bullying. The victim blaming was pointed out solely in response to the first line they said which was 'I am sorry your feelings were hurt' Also got an accusation of name calling, which no I did not. At this point I am just going to delete their comments and block them.

For people who consider themselves to be blunt but want to consider the author's feelings as well, here is some comment advice. The comment I received that started this was 0/4.

Tell the author you liked their story. You can put details or even just a line of heart emojis. If you did not like the story, silence is golden. Please use the back button.

Do not be demanding. We are not machines. Something like, 'I can't wait to see what happens' next is fine 'UPDATE' is not

It is fine to share ideas, but just like in 2. do not be demanding. Unless the author has asked for prompts, do not have expectations

Unless an author has asked for it, no constructive criticism. It is fiction, let the author write what they want.

Me in college when I finally met some people who were into the same nerdy shit as me, except their interest only went as far as canon and I am into all the deranged fandom stuff. The amount of times I had to keep my mouth shut because I wasn't 100% sure in what I was about to say came from a fanfiction or not 😅

It doesn't matter whether it was "your ideas" if it's ai generated then it's stolen from all the other actual writers on the Internet. The Lore.fm disaster should have told you what you need to know about the fanfiction communities opinion on ai (the ao3 community literally shut down an entire app). We don't want your ai fanfic!

Make your own cute art, by all means. Just don't steal and screw up ther people's drawings just because you don't like them. News flash, they were never for you, so leave them alone!

Also you seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of what it means to be proship. It is a stance, pro (as in for) ship (the right to smash fictional characters together in a relationship) without being harassed over fiction, even darker ships that do not aline with our IRL values. No ship is 'a proship' and there is no such thing as 'proshipper art', one can simply be proship.

I see that you are too chronically online and too deep in your virtue signaling to understand this anti, but there is a thing called ✨️minding your own business✨️. Fiction is fiction for a reason (it's not real) and therefore anything goes. Maybe it's not for you and that's fine but that doesn't mean it's wrong and nobody should be allowed to enjoy it.

You know all those people who are "fixing proshipper art" are just stealing other peoples artwork. And in some cases exposing it to audiences it wasn't meant for and wouldn't have otherwise seen it. If anyone's harming kids with this it's them, by taking art from adult platforms (or restricted view) and reposting it in spaced filled with minors.
