This painting represents Queen María de Molina (c. 1264 – 1321), widow of Sancho IV of Castile, presenting her son Fernando IV of Castile (1285 – 1312) in the Cortes of Valladolid in 1295. They recognized the king’s tutor as his grand-uncle, Infante Enrique de Castilla el Senador while the custody and upbringing of Fernando were entrusted to his mother.
