“I’m so glad I…I got the orb out when I did. If it stayed within me and we had our baby, who knows what life would’ve had in store for us? I tear up at the thought of leaving you behind. Leaving our daughter behind. She wouldn’t be immortal, more than likely, and she’d grow up without me. Or, maybe she’d still stay a baby forever and you’d always have someone to hold.”
Gale’s eyes get glossy as he fights back tears of strong emotion. I place a finger over his lips, smiling as I hold his gaze.
“We don’t have to worry anymore. Everything is perfect and you’re here with us. I’m glad we have our own family, and that we’ll be together for eternity. Please don’t think about what could’ve been, because it will just make you sad.” He chuckles and plants a kiss on my forehead, then leans down into the baby’s crib to pick her up. He holds her against his chest, taking in the precious moment.
“You’re right. I love you.”

Saints and sorcery - Chapter 2
Pairing: Gale x f!Tav
Ao3 <3
Cyder smiled as she took note of the little changes around the camp, trying to forget what those changes meant. This was no longer a short endeavour.
Lae’zel sharpened her sword, Shadowheart threw her a dirty look or two, Astarion seemed amused by the entire spectacle. The newcomer – Will – didn’t mingle with the rest of them yet, Gale tried to assemble a meal from what they had found, helpful as always. It was like a well established community.
She gave the wizard another glance. His hair was pinned back in a bun, the silvery grey streaks illuminated by the evening light of the setting sun. Cyder watched him work, even cooking – a task she had always seen as mundane – seemed to come with precision for him. The way his hands hovered over the selection of herbs he’d collected along the way, fingers moving almost the way they did when he was composing the weave.
A small frown appeared between her brows. Maybe she hadn’t noticed it before, but now she certainly did. There was the slightest tremor in his movements – however graceful they were. It hadn’t been there when they were talking to Zevlor or Ethel. The Marshes probably weren’t the ideal place to set up camp, but they had been here for the better part of the day and he hadn’t seemed upset by it in any way.
Then, again, why was she so damn worried? Tomorrow they would talk to this Ethel and if all went well she would rid herself of the parasite. And she probably wouldn’t see Gale again. No, not probably. Definitely.
Gods, where would she even go once all of this was over. There was only one place she could call home, and she had no desire to return to it.
She undid the final buckle holding her armor in place. Cyder knelt as she gathered up the Platemail parts and readjusted the clothes she was wearing underneath, glancing up now and then to catch another glimpse of Gale.
Don’t be a fool, she reminded herself as she strode across the camp, … but a little conversation never hurt anybody.
„Do you need help with that?“ she asked, placing her neatly folded and stacked armor on the ground.
„Oh,“ he looked up at her wide-eyed before giving her a radiant smile. „I can manage on my own, but if you want to…“ he gestured vaguely to towards a few tomatoes. „But you really don’t need to. It can’t be easy leading a group like ours to make… any good decision, really. If you want to rest that’s perfectly fine.“
„Something to do is all I really need right now.“ she smiled back at him, picking up the tomatoes and began slicing them. „If I rest for too long who knows, I might just start thinking.“
„Don’t you do plenty of that already?“ he asked, picking up some herb or another, none of which Cyder could identify. „You do seem like the kind of person who gets lost in her thoughts all to easily.“
„Well, yes. That’s part of the problem.“
„Are you sure about that?“ He took up whichever herbs he’d just picked out and discarded them into the pot. He became quiet for a moment, something Cyder wasn’t sure he’d ever been before. „You are fascinating.“
She sought to deny it out of habit and saying thank you simply felt like too much, so she settled for the truth. „So are you.“
They let the silence wash the words away.
Cider winced at the sudden discomfort that seemed to surround them. She pointed at the unevenly cut tomatoes. „Is is okay like this?“
„Hm?“ he looked first at her, as if torn from some deep thought, then at her work. „Perfectly fine.“
She nodded, added them to the questionable stew that slowly but surely began to smell like something she might actually like. She sighed, taking in the aroma. „It’s funny, you know. What you make from mere scraps is better than anything I ever cooked with fresh ingredients. I’m a terrible cook, if my husband is to be believed-“ she halted.
„You‘re married?“ He asked, his voice taking on a slightly questioning tone.
She cursed herself silently before correcting him. „Was married, not that I had much say in the matter. I will take being abducted and tadpoled as a convenient point in time to separate from him.“ she grimaced. „Strange how it took all of that for me to finally dare to do it.“
Another wave of silence settled over them before Gale Spoke again. „If you ask me, you’re an excellent cook.“

Not quite right - Saints And Sorcery
Pairing: Gale x f!Tav
Summary: Some days nothing turns out quite the way you expect it to…
Ao3 <3
Calling it a ‘bad day’ would have been an understatement.
Cyder still didn’t feel quite like herself after a long bath, a good enough meal, and her favourite book. Even the thought of Gale placing the aforementioned book on her pillow during her absence wasn’t enough.
Gales classes had started in the later part of the day and Cyder had been working since the early morning and she’d found herself a little disappointed to find their home still empty.
From the moment she’d stepped into the library, immediately intent to slip away into the endless aisles of shelves the giant building housed, it had all gone wrong.
The job had been heaven to begin with, no noise, hundreds of thousands of tomes that needed to be categorised and brought to their respective shelves, enough time to browse some for her own interest... Cyder loved it. But that day, she’d been held up by her new coworker.
Not that she minded company, most of the time. She enjoyed Having a little chat here and there, listening to the latest gossip while Rose, the oldest staff member, brewed some of that delicious tea made precisely the way Cyder liked it.
It was an entirely different thing to be held up at every turn, to have each of her decisions questioned, and to be completely disregarded. And to be flirted with – badly flirted with. Cyder had always felt that she remained oblivious most of the time; if she noticed it, it wasn’t always a positive thing.
By the time the sun began to set, Cyder braided her dust covered hair, violently yanking it into place and pinned her fringe out of her eyes, each movement betraying her inner turmoil. „Good evening then!“ she’d called as she rushed to the entrance with her bag slung across her shoulder.
„Wait! Just a Moment!“
She stopped. She actually stopped. „Damn these good manners,“ she muttered under her breath as she dug her fingers into the leather of her bags strap.
„What was that?“
„Nothing.“
„You mentioned you live somewhere near the archives?“
„I suppose.“ She must have said so, not that she remembered, she’d simply done her best to fill the silence with something, anything. Well, when there was silence at least, that man wasn’t exactly likely to ever fall quiet - Albeit a quality she admired in Gale, most other people simply got on her nerves that way.
„We happen to be heading in the same direction.“ he beamed at her as he placed his hand on her shoulder. „We can walk together then. Get to know each other even better?“
„Sure.“ she said, shrugging off his hand as impolitely as possible. Cyder nodded and practically sprinted off. She wasn’t going to slow down, not unless he asked. She knew men like him, he’d never ask. She hid her smile, noticing how it was a little too self-satisfied, even for her own tastes.
She did her best to seem at least a little interested in anything besides getting home and – hopefully – finding Gale already there.
They walked the winding streets of Waterdeep for a few minutes without cyder getting a single word in. She simply closed her eyes, drowning out the noise with the waves she began to hear breaking against the rocks in the harbour. So damn close.
“This is it.” She announced bluntly and came to a halt before the towers door.
“This?” He laughed, which did nothing to quell Cyders absolute frustration. “Are you sure?” He winked.
“I’m sure.”
“You know… I could come upstairs with you, seems like a far way up-“
“No, thank you.” She grinned as she laid her palm against the doors smooth surface -“Have a wonderful night.” - and spoke the phrase of passage Gale and her had chosen. The world around her blurred for a moment and there was the familiar rushing sensation of magic at work coursing through her body. When Cyder opened her eyes she stood at the top of a spiral staircase.
It wasn’t until an hour before midnight that she heard her husbands footsteps, clearly being extra cautious, in case she was already asleep.
Cyder wrapped the robe she had borrowed from Gale tighter around herself as she trudged from the living room towards the entrance. Her hair was in a total disarray and hadn’t even dried yet, she didn’t like how tired and sluggish she felt, she hadn’t even bothered to change into her normal sleepwear yet.
Mostly though, she had no idea how to articulate herself anymore. As she finally saw him, she didn’t say anything before practically crashing into Gale.
“Gale…” She muttered, as her husband’s confusion at her silent attack faded, and he carded his fingers through her hair. He smelled like smoke and, with a small smile tugging at her lips, she asked. “Did one of your students set something on fire?”
He sighed, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her even closer. “you mean to ask whether one of my students set something on fire again?”
She nodded, undoing the buttons of his shirt, frowning at the burnt up sleeves, as the couple finally found their way into the bedroom.
“You are not quite right in that assumption, my love.” He muttered.
“You wouldn’t believe how often I’ve heard that today.” She smiled as she ran her fingers through his hair and found them smudged with dark spots. “Without the ‘My love’, of course.” She added hastily.
“At least the day’s over.” He gave her a wry smile as he sat down on their bed. “Or, let me rephrase that – the part of the day I surely didn’t appreciate is over.”
She hummed in agreement, stopping herself before wiping the grime off her hands on the Robe.
“But… now I’m with you.” He sighed, massaging his temples and leaving behind another dark black smudge before perking up and giving her that wide eyed look Cyder knew all too well – it tended to mean that he forgot his own worries above hers. “Are you well, dear?”
“You know, now…” She gave up on ridding herself of the remnants of the fire and curled up in her husband’s arms again, discarding the thought of having to wash the robe and change the sheets and- “More than well. Now that I’m with you.”
“I love you.” He whispered, burying his nose in Cyders hair.
“I know,” she replied, snuggling into his chest. “I love you too.”
They let the quiet dark lure them into comfort, nothing but the melody of waves, and breath, and love carrying them into night.
“My heart?” Cyder asked, softly. “What did you meant with ‘not entirely right’ earlier?”
“It certainly doesn’t mean that I failed to cast a simple spell.”
“Ah, alright.”
“It also doesn’t mean that I burnt half of my desk in the process of controlling the damn thing.”
“Of course not.”
“I would never do such a thing.“
“Never,” Cyder agreed, desperately trying to hide her smile as she pulled her husband closer.

Somewhere Lost In The Mist
Pairing: Gale x Tav
Summary: After a failed spell Gale no longer remembers the last few years… at least for a little while
The unusual silence should have given it away instantly.
Most days – even when Gale was in his study – the tower wasn’t quiet. Gale tended to share every thought with her, making sure she never felt left behind by him. Cyder appreciated it more than anything when he didn’t hold back for a moment and spent the following thirty minutes catching her up on whichever obscure thing he’d chosen to delve into that day.
Cyder sipped her rapidly cooling tea as she gazed over the city from the terrace, wrapping her blanket tighter around herself. Winter was approaching. She stirred some more honey into her tea almost wincing a she tasted it again to find it overly sweet.
She hadn’t heard from her husband in more than an hour. He’d last sat in the kitchen with her, discussing some spell he was planning to research and modify over the following weeks. He’d been excited. She smiled as the image of him using forks, knives, and dinner plates from the drawers to explain each effect. She adored the passion in his voice, even when she struggled to follow him on each small detail. Sometimes she wondered how he could have ever believed he’d make a terrible professor. „Gale?“ she called.
There was no reply, only the sound of a creaking floorboard a few seconds later.
„Gale, dear?“ she asked, a little louder this time „is everything alright?“
She heard the door to the study shutting slowly, its hinges still giving the movement away.
Maybe it was like last spring. He’d accidentally silenced himself and had stood before her quietly fuming and gesticulating wildly as he tried to explain the whole situation to her. His bad mood had evaporated instantly though as she kissed his cheek, trying to hold back her laughter. By the time the spell had worn off the two of them had curled up before the fireplace together, exchanging messages on little pieces of paper. One that simply said I love you was slipped into the pocket of Cyder’s favourite robe till this day.
„Who’s there?“ She flinched at the sound of his voice, usually perfectly gentle, now laced with venom.
„Me?“ she shrugged of the blanket and got to her feet, peering around the corner. „Cyder?“
She gasped as a wave of pure force tethered her in place. „Gale, what in the hells are you doing?“ she managed to speak calmly.
Finally she caught sight of her husband. His wavy, grey streaked hair was tousled, almost like after a long nights sleep. Though the look in his eyes was quite different. He stared at her, eyes narrowed, taking her in.
Cyder tore her gaze from him – as much as it hurt - and tapped into the weave. She didn’t tug at her restraints, instead she searched for the familiar shimmer of Gales magic. She reached out to him, but met only a foggy sense of uncertainty. The sorcerer dove back out of her mind, slowly piecing the puzzle together.
She recalled the plates and forks from earlier, trying desperately to recall the spell he’d meant to work at. Oh, she winced as she filled in the blanks, he doesn’t remember me. Gale had been tampering with a ‘confusion’ spell, only that instead of disorienting the target it…
She snapped out of her thoughts as Gale spoke again. “Who. Are. You.”
“Cyder,” she answered. “Could you let me go? Please?”
Maybe it was the way she’d said it, or maybe he just knew, but Cyder felt his hold on her weaken and eventually evaporate entirely. “I-“ he hesitated, as if unsure of his own reasons now “I apologise. I didn’t mean to…but” he closed his eyes for a moment. “Why are you in my tower?”
“You don’t remember me?” She asked, careful not to let her heartbreak show.
He shook his head. “I’m afraid not.”
She swallowed hard, so I had been right, she thought t. The spell held the memories of the last years hidden behind a mist. It would fade, she knew it would fade, he had told her. Just imagine, he’d said, you’re in an unfamiliar place with a bunch of strangers around you and you find that you’re ten years older. That is what I would call proper confusion.
„That’s okay.“ she tried to be calm as she walked towards him as if he were a spooked animal. „Can I touch you?“
He nodded, his brow furrowed, not understanding why he would let an intruder so close.
„Gale, do you remember what happened.“ she asked, standing right before him now.
„I was working on something and-„ his breath caught, eyes distant for a beat. „And the. There’s nothing.
Cyder gently reached for his hands, taking them firmly in hers. He was shaking.Gods. „It’s okay.“ she promised. „I’m here.“ she ran her thumb over his knuckles. „I know this is all… a lot - But you know me. And you’re important to me.“
He gazed at their twined hands and softly whispered. „We‘re married.“ Before drawing the hand with his ring on it up against his chest. She felt his heart beat fiercely agonist it. „You’re my wife.“
She drew him into her arms as she saw tear shining in his eyes. „Oh, my heart.“ she mumbled against his chest as she carded her fingers through his hair. „My Gale…“
„I don’t remember you.“ he was properly in tears now, holding her as tightly as possible.
„You will.“ Cyder pulled back to look into his eyes. „Take your time.“
„I love you.“ his voice was perfectly quiet, more breath than sound.
„I know.“ she smiled, „I know for the both of us. I love you, always.“

Saints And Sorcery
Chapter 1: Beginnings
Pairing: Gale x f!Tav
“You could have left me. Not everyone would have done the same.” He sighed, looked up at the stars. “I can’t pay it back to you in any way I can imagine.”
“You can’t get rid of these tadpoles by any chance?” She asked, a wry smile forming.
“That is unfortunately not quite my domain, but I will do all that I can to ensure we find a cure. Until then… I will have to remain in your debt.”

A history of Faerûn - Saints and Sorcery
Summary: Sometimes memories are kept between pages…
Pairing: Gale x f!Tav
Back home in Waterdeep, Gale always kept his books in pristine condition. There were no bent covers or ripped pages and every single note would be written on a separate piece of paper he’d stick between the pages.
Once he is abducted though, that isn’t a luxury he can afford. The books he finds while they’re on the road are readable at best, most of them are drenched in rainwater and caked in dirt after a couple of days. But the one he does keep, ‘The History Of Faerun’? Well,…
There are whole pages missing, ripped out so they could draw a rudimentary map of the places they found themselves in. He takes notes between the lines when the group has to solve a riddle or when he simply sees something that attracts his attention.
But that’s not everything.
The evening he creates the starry sky for Cyder it’s the first time he can recall being nervous before casting a spell. It has to be perfect. And so, in that tome he kept in his backpack, he begins to write out the instructions to his own spell.
The tome keeps losing parts of its pages to scribbled notes pressed into his lovers palm. It’s small pieces, grand promises - ‘I love you’, written in his usual cursive, that bring about the most beautiful smile.
Maybe his smile is just as enchanting as hers when Cyder picks up on his little game and leaves little notes throughout it.
The night before the fight against the Netherbrain, when he composes that letter… just in case - just in case… his hands shaking, eyes misted by tears simply at the thought of leaving her behind - he begins in that same old book. He copies his words onto a clean parchment and seals the envelope - praying that it will never be opened.
Years later ‘The History Of Faerun’ sits in one of his shelves - but not one book he brought home since he met Cyder remained untouched.
His teaching books contain little messages from his beloved wife, words that make him laugh and sometimes a little misty eyed when he realises just how much he loves her - and how much she loves him in turn.
Then, one day, as he’s browsing the shelves of his library, that same old tome catches his eye. ‘A History Of Faerun’ He pulls it from between the others, leafing through its pages, he smiles at Cyder’s messages, the torn pages carrying his own, the illusion spell in great detail, he hesitates at the letter and - almost expecting it to end with the night he thought would be his last - he turns another page, only to discover his child’s drawing amidst the words.
Thank you for reading ✨ :)
