‘The grave of the Russian composer Alfred Schnittke in Novodevichye Cemetery in Moscow is surmounted by a stone on which is engraved a rest beneath a fermata with a triple forte noted at the bottom: A very, very loud extended silence.’

Oh yeah I loved that part too, as well as the “what was she supposed to do?” Her dumbass husband had already agreed to be a constitutional monarch. Accept that maybe? They had already “surrendered to the Revolution”. No one was going to harm them. Maybe if they had both ran away at the same time as his brothers, the whole “we would have done the same” would make sense but instead they played pretend at accepting the Revolution for 2-3 years. Too bad, so sad. Treason is a capital crime in many countries still nowadays, including the USA.
I’m writing this to vent my frustration. I’m genuinely tired and annoyed by how people keep treating historical figures as if they were characters in a silly teenage novel. I’m specifically referring to the ridiculous ships between Robespierre and Saint-Just, or the constant sexualization of historical figures. To me, this is dehumanizing. People seem to forget that these figures were human in every sense of the word: they had thousands of thoughts a day, changed their minds, held prejudices, embraced ideologies, felt fear and hope... They even did mundane things like going to the bathroom. Above all, they were products of their time. We can’t judge them through the lens of our modern morals and ideologies. Every decision and action they took was layered with complexity. Reducing them to heroes or villains strips away their humanity. The mistakes they made are mistakes we likely would have made too, given the same circumstances, because context shapes actions. A clear example is how people treat Marie Antoinette and those around her. They’re harshly criticized and demonized for opposing the revolution and trying to fight it. But what else were they supposed to do? Surrender to the revolution like naïve children? In their shoes, with their beliefs and circumstances, we would’ve done the same. Everything, Marie Antoinette’s supposed betrayal of France, the abuse her son suffered, the hunger and poverty endured by commoners, needs to be examined with nuance. Not to excuse or justify, but to truly understand the complexities of the time.
I'm really tired of how toxic this "fandom" is, because calling it that is so ridiculous to me.

This isn't exactly a confession, but it's important.
TW for CSEM and rape
One of the artists in this fandom, Citizentaleo, draws NSFW of minor aged characters (one of them was a character from Howl's Moving Castle. It was Lattie, if I'm not mistaken, and she's around 16, canonically under 18) and, as far as I can remember, also drew Fouché sexually assaulting Robespierre (the drawing portrayed him explicitly yelling at Fouché to stop), and they post these things on their patreon.
Unfortunately, I can't provide proof while on anonymous. I don't want to reveal my identity, but if you search for their username on Pinterest, some of these will show up.
Please be aware of this artist. This is very messed up. I don't understand how someone could draw rape and NSFW art of minors and still have supporters? Especially while a big part of the fandom are minors. Stop following this person and commissioning them, you're supporting this kind of content.

Hey can you actually enforce this rule?
Rules for Confession
Be civil. Fight in reblogs, not in confessions.
This blog is run by queue so depending on the amount of asks I have— posts per day will vary (some days there may be none due to a lack of anything in inbox)
Asks with racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, etc. will be deleted. I do not want that sort of environment
This is strictly for French Revolution and French Enlightenment era
NSFW is allowed but don’t go too far
If I ever get the number for Louis wrong please correct me I swear I’m not illiterate I’m just stupid 😭
Have fun :)
this might be updated with time

"They used the bathroom, they were normal people, real human beings... But imagining they had sex is just TOO FAR, sex is sooo dehumanizing (especially if it's gay, ew)."
Why don't you shut down your stupid shit-stirring blog? Seriously?
