well, this situation is shit

i'm not especially engaging with the news, because it messes me up to no good end, but I know that when it's time to march in the streets, my friends will message me and we'll arts-and-crafts ourselves some placards and we'll march

again

and again

in 2017 i was a wannabe-activist and i wasn't in any messaging groups with activists and i wanted to do something but as someone who struggles with "social anxiety" and "what script do I follow in this social situation" I was incredibly intimidated about what something might look like

i rely on fiction to help prepare me for unfamiliar adventures, but while there's a lot of books to prepare me for my post-apocolyse love triangle & for making a rousing speech that somehow sparks a revolution, there's not many books about what activism actually looks like, right here, in this rapidly distingrating dystopia that is our lives

attending meetings and making friends and arts and crafts and community building and showing up, not because you lead a revolution, but because you need to believe that a revolution is possible, and you need to be in a room with people who believe it too or else you'll go mad from pretending every day that the world outside your window is acceptable

so i wrote a book, the book that I needed to read in 2017, that told me what it looks like to resist

It confuses me how normalized it is to be so anti human. The fact that two countries voted no to food being a human right. The fact so many people are against universal healthcare. The fact that it’s normal to believe some people don’t deserve housing because they’re poor, addicts, mentally ill, or any combination of the above. I find it so hard to comprehend that humans who have experienced hunger, thirst, cold, and illness would wish these things upon others, or at the very least not care. It frustrates me beyond belief.

These are the exact values we’re taught as children, to believe all humans are equal in worth and needs, and yet at some point you’re expected to grow out of that illusion. You’re expected to accept that this is what life’s like, that the world is unfair, and attempting to fix it makes you weak and childish.

I think it’s important to give yourself grace and acknowledge how you are still learning and unlearning, even when it’s hard. That quality of self-awareness is brave and necessary.

my brother was making fun of me and our other brother for having the same haircut, and we were immediately like "what the fuck are you talking about? you had this EXACT SAME haircut like a year ago. this is your haircut too. jackass." so we start arguing back and forth until our mom stops us and says "come here." and she brings out her ID from when she was a teenager and... its the same haircut.

you know you’re deeply in love with your partner when you’re constantly thinking of not just them, but AUs of you and your partner meeting at different times in life, whether it’s you both at 5 yrs old, you both in like 20 years, you both if you moved to vancouver instead of staying/choosing ontario, you both in a cowboy universe, etc.

what i meant in all my previous posts is that my girlfriend will always be my first choice because she’s the only one i feel who has ever given me all the love that they can give. she’s patience, she’s beauty, she’s love, she’s passion, she’s everything.

i wish i could give her the world. i will work hard to do so
