“oh, c’mon, i almost had it,” jane focused on shooting a ring around a bottle, a classic carnival game that she somehow couldn’t beat. but the cute stuffed lion hanging above her was enough to keep her exchanging her coins to play again and again. “just one more time..” jane mumbles as she steps to the side, slightly sulking as she lets the person behind her have a turn. “is there a trick to this? or do i just have really bad aim?”

       HAND CLUTCHING A RATHER LONG BAG of kettle corn — the impulse purchase resulting from the lack of self-control and a ‘go big or go home’ mentality — roman stopped in his tracks upon catching sight of jane at one of the game booths. he watched from a distance as she continuously attempted to sink a ring around one of the bottles to no avail, a faint chuckle leaving his lips. scanning the immediate area, he concluded that it was probably safe enough for him to approach her. “a trick?” eyebrows raised as he reached to obtain a wrinkly dollar bill from his wallet. “i’d say it’s more like luck as long as you’re in range. unfortunately for you,” roman absentmindedly tossed the ring, “i have shitty— wait, the fuck?” his gaze fell on the ring, rumbling around the bottle’s neck but still around it nonetheless. he slowly turned toward jane, still in disbelief at how effortlessly he managed to succeed when she was struggling. “so, uh, which one did you want?”

HUMMING TO HIMSELF , micah walks the length of his living room , waiting for roman to answer his call . eyes cast back at his coffee table , at two tickets to a new art exhibit set for tonight — one he’s completely forgotten about until said tickets fell out of his binder when he was looking for something else . now he was in panic mode because he didn’t have a plus one — and damn , those tickets were expensive . so he panic dials and calls the person he knows would — ‘ roman ? hey ! ’  

        ROMAN COULDN’T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME he had answered a call from someone who wasn’t his aunt — not to say she hadn’t been plaguing his phone with concerned voicemails over his ‘sorry, i’m busy, talk to you later’ texts. he was just about to let the incoming call ring until the all-too-familiar pre-recorded message when he happened to glance at the name on the screen. well, that’s new. he brings the phone to his ear, confused as to what prompted micah to contact him but curious nonetheless. “micah, you know you could have just texted me, right?”
