shuichis complete lack of interest in oumas attempts at being mysterious and charming is so fuckin funny. ouma wants to be the phantom thief clown moriarty to shuichis sherlock holmes and will do and say all sorts of dumb embarrassing gay shit trying to be mysteriously endearing and will just get absolutely nothing in return. shuichi just goes "uh, ok?" and walks off to go hang out with the autistic girl who death threats her friends and the guy who wears slippers outside.

TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A COMPLETE DR TIMELINE
[WARNING FOR A LOT OF MENTIONS OF MURDER, SUICIDE AND OTHER SUCH THINGS YOU CAN EXPECT OUT OF DANGAN RONPA. ALSO WARNING FOR SPOILERS FOR ENTIRE FRANCHISE!]
LAST EDIT: DECEMBER 28TH 2015
AUGUST 2016 UPD8: GENERALLY UPDATED WITH CURRENT DR3 INFO! PROBABLY STILL NEEDS SOME TWEAKING THOUGH.
This started out as a reply to another post, but I wanted the fandom to have an accurate (or as accurately as possible) timeline. If you guys have any corrections to make, send me an ask!
LET’S GET THE TIMELINE OUT OF THE WAY FIRST:
The Japanese school year runs from early April to the end of the following March. Hope’s Peak Academy works the same way.
YEAR ONE (2010/2011): 77th Hope’s Peak Roster enrolls (Ryouta Mitarai and all the SDR2 kids minus Hinata are in 77B - Yasuke Matsuda, Yuuto Kamishiro, Soushun Murasame, and other unknown students are in 77A). Hajime Hinata, ??? Satou and Natsumi Kuzuryuu also enroll this year in the Reserve Department.
- All the unnamed student council members were part of either the 76th or 77th classes (if the 78th class was allowed to take part in the council, you’d think that Ishimaru - whose title revolved around a faction of the council - would have died before DR1.) - Santa Shikiba, the Madarai Octuplets, the SHSL Physicist and were part of either the 76th or 77th classes. - Miaya Gekkogahara was likely part of the 76th or 77th class, due to working on the Neo World Program with Matsuda and Chihiro. - Events of Twilight Syndrome take place. Satou kills Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu’s sister, and is then killed by him in revenge. - Hajime Hinata volunteers and gets chosen for the ’'Hope Cultivation Project’.
YEAR TWO (2011/2012): 78th Hope’s Peak Class enrolls (All DR1 kids in the only class). The events of DR3: Despair Arc occur sometime between Year One and Two.
- ‘The Worst Day in the Life of Makoto Naegi’ happens; Naegi gets chosen to attend Hope’s Peak by winning the do-over lottery. - The Reserve Department has garnered 2,357 ‘average’ students. - Junko Enoshima starts to influence and manipulate older students, turning many of them into members of SHSL Despair over the course of the year. - Chihiro Fujisaki finishes their work on Alter Ego (V1). - Chihiro, Yasuke Matsuda and Miaya Gekkogahara start creating the ‘New World/Hope Rehabilitation Program’, which would later be used and completed by the Future Foundation. - The school campus expands and the old school building is closed. - Junko discovers the former identity of Izuru, and incites him and the student council into a ‘mutual killing’ situation. - Izuru is blamed for the gruesome murders of the majority of the council, and the school board immediately tries to cover it up. - Events of DR0 take place. - During DR0, Matsuda, Yuuto, the Madarai Octuplets and the SHSL Student Council President (Soushun) are all killed. - The riots spread outside the school, both online and off, and slowly become more violent and destructive as more and more people succumb to despair. This even includes children, such as the five Soldiers of Hope and their army of Monokuma Kids. - At Junko’s bequest, all the Reserve Students commit mass suicide, furthering the message of 'despair’. - Sometime before the end of the school year, the Soldiers of Hope try to commit suicide but are stopped by Junko and taken under her wing.
YEAR THREE (2012/2013): The Despair Wars truly begin. Except for members of SHSL Despair (who spread out over Japan causing destruction in Junko’s name) andthe 78th class (DR1 cast), the remains of the 76th-77th classes are wiped out. Obviously the school is in no state to induct a 79th class roster after all of that, and closes down. And so, Junko’s class prepares the old school (northern district) building as a shelter under Headmaster Jin Kirigiri’s supervision.
- It is implied/outright stated that most of the friends and family members of both casts were murdered (whether specifically targeted by Junko or by the SDR2 kids’ own hands) before DR1 took place. - This may have included Chiaki Nanami, who presumably never fell into despair and by the time of SDR2, an AI bearing her identity is used to help restore hope to the remnants of SHSL Despair. - However, there were a few survivors; as one loved one of each of the DR1 kids (minus the Despair Sisters) were kidnapped and taken hostage by SHSL Despair in Towa City. - The DR1 cast manage to live together peacefully in the school for a time, until Junko incapacitates them somehow, executes Jin, and erases her classmates’ memories of YEAR 2 and YEAR 3.
YEAR FOUR (2013/2014): Events of DR take place (23 days), and is recorded on national television for everyone (including SDR2 cast) to watch.
- Chihiro programs Alter Ego (v2). - Nine out of sixteen students die by participating in the ‘school life of mutual killing’, as well as Alter Ego (v2). - The DR1 survivors manage to beat Junko’s challenge, who happily commits a very extravagant suicide via execution (that she tricked the audience into believing finished with her being crushed to death, but this is proven false due to SDR2 events). - The DR1 survivors leave the school and are faced with the apocalypse for several months until they are found by the Future Foundation (founded by Hope’s Peak graduates), who enlist them into the organization and return to them their lost memories.
YEAR FIVE/SIX (2014/2015?): Events of DR:AE take place six months after events of DR1. The events of DR Gaiden take place as well. Later still (at least a year and a half after DR:AE) the events of SDR2 (22 days) occur and immediately following that, DR3: Future Volume happens. Some other stuff also happens, I guess.
- Members of SHSL Despair become more desperate and dangerous after Junko’s death, continuing to act in her memory. - They salvage Junko’s corpse from the now toxic school building, and try to split up her body parts among themselves. It is unknown whether any attempts were successful, however - except for Komaeda, who grafted her hand to his arm. Someone also tried to replace an eye with hers, and considering Kuzuryuu has an eye-patch as SHSL Despair, it’s implied it was him. -The majority of SHSL Despair dies at some point during these events;  due to a variety of reasons including suicide, violence and self-induced illness. The still-living members begin to be called ‘remnants’ by the Future Foundation. -6 months after DR1, THE EVENTS OF DR: ANOTHER EPISODE TAKES PLACE. The hostages of Towa City are released and become targets for the Soldiers of Hope’s Demon Killing Game (two of the fourteen hostages - Yuuta Asahina and Taichi Fujisaki - are killed).  - Komaru and Touko partner up to defeat the Monokuma Kids and their rule over Towa City, and decide to stay and protect the city until the remnants of SHSL Despair are defeated. - Yasuhiro Hagakure partners up with Kanon Nakajima (Leon Kuwata’s cousin) during the events of Absolute Despair Hagakure. - With Komaeda’s help, Monaka Towa decides to become the next Junko. - The four remaining Warriors of Hope find each other and are last seen fighting against the Monokuma Kids, still in the city. - Led by Byakuya Togami, who had been held captive for days, the eleven remaining captives (including Kanon, since Hagakure is present for DR3:FV) are rescued by the Future Foundation. - The Future Foundation decides the remnants of SHSL Despair are too dangerous to be left alive, and plan to kill them once they find them. - Coincidentally, they start investigating the SDR2 cast as possible ‘survivors’ of Hope’s Peak around this time too and offer them shelter and assistance. - The events of DR Gaiden occur. Misaki Asano joins the FF’s 6th Division’s Special Case Bureau and is partnered with Takumi Hijirihara, who turns out to be the infamous serial killer Kira-Kira. -The FF discover that the SDR2 cast IS SHSL Despair, and Naegi (with help from Togami and Kirigiri) go against FF orders in order to save them. They use the ‘New World Program’ to put them into a rehabilitating virtual reality finished and supervised by Alter Ego (v1). -The SDR2 cast agree to the rehab, but are actually operating under Junko’s orders which involve Izuru putting a virus into the program and them taking part in a murder game so Junko could take over their bodies in the real world. -THE EVENTS OF SDR2 TAKE PLACE (22 days) -Ten out of the fifteen students 'die’ by participating in the field trip of mutual killing, along with Chiaki and Usami (the monitors). -The five SDR2 survivors wake up and decide to stay on the real island, with the intention of moving forward despite their pasts, and working to find a way to wake their ‘dead’ friends from their comas. - It is unknown how much of their memories from the real world and how much of their memories from the virtual reality were retained. - Naegi got stuck with the job of explaining to the Future Foundation what happened, and trying to cover up for the SDR2 kids. That doesn’t go well, and the Heads of each branch set up a hearing to decide his fate. - The hearing is interrupted by Monokuma, with the help of a traitor, starting the Final Killing Game. - The events of DR3: Future Arc occur.
BUT I ALSO WANT TO EXPLAIN SOME REASONING SO I’LL DO THAT UNDER THE CUT (FEEL FREE TO TRY AND REFUTE ANYTHING ON THIS TIMELINE OR IF YOU NOTICE ANYTHING MISSING):

The gist of the "utopia incompleteness theorem" is that it's impossible to create a utopia that doesn't end up being a dystopia for some subset of people.
I think this is a fundamentally interesting concept, and in spite of me calling it a theorem, it's not actually proven, and I doubt that you could prove it.
This is not to say that life cannot be generally improved for people. It can! Obviously! But when you attempt to describe utopia, the grand world of your dreams, the bestest possible world, you run into problems with outliers and people who have different values from you. Most people authoring utopias of any kind simply pretend that the malcontents don't exist, or in some cases, their utopia involves forcible brainwashing.
I also think that examining these imperfections-from-certain-viewpoints is a much, much more interesting way at getting at what the utopia is about. Who are the people who are unhappy? Why are they unhappy? What is being done about their unhappiness? What makes their unhappiness intractable?
People don't write a lot of utopian fiction, which I get, and focusing on the ways in which utopias are incomplete maybe takes away some of what utopian writers enjoy. I think it's illuminating though, and every time I see someone put forward a utopia, I hope they show me the ugly cracks and awkward welds that are surely necessary when dealing with human variation.
