“I never thanked you, you know—sincerely.” The day of his promotion to Commodore often played in his head, when he didn’t want it to, haunting him with memories of what was and what could have been. He knew it wasn’t healthy, to let his mind linger on the past. In the months after he lost his ship to the hurricane that had prevented him from capturing the man before him, he had used rum as a coping mechanism. It was truly remarkable how he had achieved nearly everything he had wanted in life, only to have it fall to pieces in the span of a week. “I was…so angry, at you of course, but mostly at myself, after you rescued her. It reminded me an awful lot of my father.” He would never have been so cruel, to have rather seen his former fiancée dead than to have been rescued by pirates, but that was exactly what his own father thought of him when one had fished him out of the ocean and saved him from a watery grave as a child. He supposed that in some way had contributed to the unnatural vigor with which he hunted their kind, thinking stupidly that this was how he could finally earn the Admiral’s love and respect.
Now that he was an Admiral himself, he didn’t feel the need to be recognized by his father, especially after the way he had abandoned him after his career had ended for a time in disgrace. “I don’t know why I’m telling you all this.” he marveled at himself shakily, taking a sip from his canteen and shaking his head. Guilt? The near brush with death? The desire for absolution? “But I know when I’m in the wrong, Mr. Sparrow, and I apologize.”
@rumgone liked for a starter
and where shackles , taunts at best , have been expected , their meeting seems unusually pleasant . that’s not to say he won’t stay alert and cautious , but the unintended ANALOGY to their first encounter ( “i believe thanks are in order” ) , not lost on jack , does bring forth the ghost of an amused smile . he finds , where grudges usually are held against his majesty’s most loyal servants , he does not loathe james norrington . jack can understand the man’s anger and the wish to kill the pirate that had RUINED his life . and if it had not been for a single day’s headstart granted by the former commodore , perhaps then he would have mounted a scaffold a lot earlier in his time . even serving under greedy little beckett , from an opportunist’s point of view , is understandable .
----------- and so he shall be gentleman enough to ACCEPT the humble plea for forgiveness . though not without a little extra teasing and a trademark glint within dark eyes . ‘ ----------- and let us not forget most generously accepting you into me CREW even after you’d tried to shoot me in tortuga . ’
even though pirate , jack is not yet bitter enough to view only one side of a coin , neither naive enough to believe that attacking cargo vessels and plundering ports warrant understanding rather than punishment . ‘ i honour an honest apology , that i shall say . but you were merely doing what seemed RIGHT to you , as we all do . no shame in that , mate . ’
#thescourgeofpiracy#it's great !#✕ ❛ v; one must play the trumpet͵ one must go like this … ⌜post!ost⌟

“I cannot tell if you showing concern, or offering your help, but either way I need either, I can handle myself. However though I am not the kind of woman to fall for such, if given good reason I guess I could help you.”
‘ fall for such ? darlin' , you insult me . never would i try any of the sort . i was under the impression that YOU could use some cheering up , frankly . ’

There was a concentrated look on his face as he stood there in front of Sparrow, watching the gun pointed exactly where he wanted it. In the moment he had no mercy for the pirate and he just wanted him gone. He certainly wasn’t the type to just let someone else scoop them up and risk the chance of escape. It was now or never. But as he waved his arms like flags and spoke, Salazar raised an eyebrow but didn’t have his solider lower his gun. He moved down to the pair and gave Jack a skeptical look for a moment.
But the words that followed the lavish display of his arms waving almost shocked the Spanish captain. It wasn’t often he got one pirate to rat out the whereabouts of other pirates. With a wave of his hand his solider lowered his gun but didn’t back away entirely. He knew better than that. “You’re just willing to tell me information like that?” He mused with an amused look. “And what exactly would you like out of it, eh?”
a quick oriental bow is given to the captain when the weapon no longer hovers threateningly before his face . it is a start , the words that follow perhaps even a willingness to negotiate . using the moment of apparent shock he rises from the deck , bold , perhaps , but cautious as a cat as he INCHES closer to the spaniard . logically of course , following this plan , he himself would be presenting the pearl on a silver platter to the man , ready for destruction . but maybe if it all went smoothly , if luck will smile at him , this could be a chance to get rid of barbossa while reclaiming his beloved ship . ‘ the man and i don’t exactly . . . have a pleasant history . not to mention his odour . terrible . ’ jack wrinkles his nose before nigh to childlike innocence fills kohl - rimmed eyes
‘ . . . my life ? what threat am i to you , aye ? don’t have no SHIP , don’t have a crew . ’

and he falls for it, bites the bait ‘ —– define a thing ‘ being curious when it comes to Jack Sparrow is not something that can be considered a smart move, everyone knows that ( everyone except for Henry at times ) ‘ AN UNSCRATCHABLE ITCH ? ‘ A concept that he has not yet been able to decipher, although he did come up with his own notion regardless of how incredibly erroneous it may be.
‘ she never had scabies , lad . don’t be ridiculous . ’ a dismissing shake of his head before he turns on his heel , dramatically , to take swaggering steps towards the rail . ‘ no . no , a stirring . . . a desire -------- CURIOSITY for all things beyond the restricted capacity of a good man . ’ a pause . face now turned from the younger , he allows a fleeting smile . ‘ so if you want THE ANSWER you best ask the question now before i’m getting sentimental . ’

‘ ----------- it is both FASCINATING and frightening how he ended up a precise replica of you despite my calculations telling me you would have seen him for a total of one day . . . ‘ a thoughtful frown upon his face as if he’s wavering between the shock of the frightening resemblance and something akin to sympathy . a moment’s hesitation until a brow is arched and jack takes half a breath , quickly realizing the need to clarify . ‘ we’re talking character . i’m seeing absolutely NOTHING of you in his looks . ’
