Dear taylorswift,
I hope that this finds it way to you somehow. I have written you before, years ago, but none have ever been successful. Above are pictures of my favorite person in this world. One of the best friends I have ever had, Queena Phu. We are the same age as you. If you went to our high school, you would have been in the same grade as us. You would have had the amazing opportunity to be best friends with Queena too, you would love her.
Her story deserves to be told because she is a fighter and a survivor. I believe that her story will reach many hearts around the world one day as it has in our community around Tampa Bay. To the people here she goes by another name, the Bloomingdale Library Attack Survivor.
In April of 2008, just a few weeks before we were due to graduate, Queena was attacked returning library books to the public library after she got off work. This attack was two days after her 18th birthday. She was beaten, raped, and left for dead. That night will forever be etched in our memory, because that was the night all of our lives changed.
Before the attack, Queena was a high spirited, goofy (often clumsy), and sweet girl. She is one of the kindest people I have ever met. We would drive around listening to CDs, including yours. We loved listening to your music. “Should’ve Said No” and “Teardrops on My Guitar” were our jams. Queena still listens to your music today, but not while driving around. These days she is constrained to a wheelchair and needs assistance doing anything. She works hard everyday because she is a fighter and a survivor. She doesn’t give up. She inspires me to be a better person every single day of my life. She is my hero.
It is this reason that I am writing to you. She is my hero and I want her to be able to meet one of her idols. We will be at your show in Tampa on October 31st this year. She has never been able to go to one of your shows yet and I am so excited to see the look on her face when she gets to hear you perform in front of her. Queena is taking me to your concert as a late birthday present so it will be Queena, her older sister Anna, and myself. I was hoping that while you were here you could meet her, say hello. If you can’t do that, it would be great if you could even give her a shoutout during the concert. I know it is a long shot, but even if you just read this and can read her story, that would make it worth it.
Here is her website: www.joinqueena.com
If you would like to read more in depth about her story, that night, and everything that she has been up to you can also Google “The Bloomingdale Library Attack Victim/Survivor”
For everyone who reads this that isn’t Taylor, I hope that you will reblog it until it gets to her and take a moment to learn about Queena’s story and share it as well.
