Dabin Choi, Four Continents 2018 (Free Skate and Gala)
I love, love love this dress. It was worth repeating Doctor Zhivago just for this look! I love the elegance and the ice motifs. Easily in my top ten looks of the season!
Also, it was so nice at 4CC Dabin used it twice: in the free skate and in the gala.
And I’m a fan of the loose hair look, though obviously it wouldn’t work in competition.

Ashley Wagner, US Nationals 2018 (Free Skate)
The less said about this actual competition, the better. Let’s talk about how amazing Ashley’s dress is, shall we?
I love the way that skirt drapes. The stars in the bodice and the faux belt actually work a little better here for me than they did on Emma Stone’s original Golden Globes dress.
And the back. What could have been, sigh.

Anna Pogorilaya, Skate Canada 2017 (Free Skate)
Oh, Anna. I have been heavily critical of your costumes in the past, but this? This was magnificent, in a way that is now bittersweet considering this competition marked a premature end to her season.
Kaetlyn had a similar look which makes sense since they were skating to the same music, but I might slightly prefer Anna’s this time? On the fence about the gloves but I LOVE the bodice and skirt.
And a look at the back, which is also lovely.

Dmitri Aliev, PyeongChang Olympics 2018 (Short Program)
There were a few military dress uniform-style costumes like this among the men this season, and I pretty much liked all of them because epaulettes and fancy cuffs are my jam.
Look at how smart this is!
And this is how I like to see gloves: as a seamless part of the whole package.

Who is your fav designer? Lisa McKinnon (usa ladies), Olga Ryablenko (rus ladies) or satomi ito (jap team)?
Ahh, difficult question, but I lean towards Lisa McKinnon for pretty much always turning out stunners for the ladies plus Maia Shibutani’s Latin short dance look... although man, Satomi Ito has designed some of the absolute best men’s costumes along with some wonderful dresses like Yuna Shiraiwa’s. Consider it very close between them to be sure!

Tarah Kayne and Danny O’Shea, Four Continents 2018 (Short Program)
I do like the pale blue on Danny here, but I’m not totally sold on this shirt, to be honest. Tarah’s dress, on the other hand, super cute.
See? It’s supposed to be a puffy shirt, but there’s something kind of droopy/sling-esque about it, and I feel like the rolled up sleeves here make him look like a cabin boy about to scrub the deck rather than a romantic hero.
But seriously, love Tarah’s dress.

Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani, PyeongChang Olympics 2018 (Short Dance)
I have been in love with Maia’s dress all year, so it’s about time I make a record of it. That skirt! Perfection. Also I couldn’t get a good look at them here but Maia’s earrings are also the best.
Glittering perfection!
Seriously, maybe the best movement of a skirt the entire season. And although it would’ve been fun to see Alex in hot pink too, I think I’m glad he went complimentary rather than matchy-matchy.

Isadora Williams, PyeongChang Olympics 2018 (Short Program)
A nice, light lavender for a nice, light skater! This is such a charming dress and it suits Isadora perfectly.
I like the little belt and the crystal patterns!
It’s delicate, classy, and subtly memorable.

Kevin Reynolds, Four Continents 2018 (Free Skate)
This first photo is from Canadian Nationals and it is just about the best I’ve ever seen Kevin look!
While we’re here, can I applaud him for out of the box musical choices? Because yes. Also LOOK at all that detail, it is spectacular.

Kaetlyn Osmond, PyeongChang Olympics 2018 (Free Skate)
I’ll admit it, at the start of the season I was not sold on this program. I am, as I may have mentioned before, a huge ballet nerd and the music cuts seriously bothered me as did some of the choreography. But by the end of the season, well, I got used to the music cuts but more importantly Kaetlyn rose to the occasion and then some. She delivered when it counted, on two of the most important occasions of her career so far, and I couldn’t be prouder.
As for the look, the look was never in doubt. It was always fabulous, right down to the eyeshadow, so what mattered was Kaetlyn selling it, and sell it she did.

Kaori Sakamoto, Skate America 2017 (Free Skate)
So first of all, I love the way this costume moves, which is why I’m leading with the above picture.
However, much as I like green... I definitely preferred the show version of this costume, which had a brighter more vibrant green and not one that could be accurately described as “pea soup” or “kelp.” I am vaguely reminded of the Slytherin common room, is what I am saying.
I’m also not totally sure about the collar? Is it a bit much, maybe?

Christina Carriera and Anthony Ponomarenko, Junior Grand Prix Final 2018 (Short Dance)
Christina changed her dress from the start of the Junior Grand Prix to this magnificence in hot pink, and it was very much a worthy upgrade!
Am I slightly uncomfortable with just how deep of a v-neck Anthony’s got going on considering his actual age? Yes. However, I cannot deny it is appropriately Latin.
All in all, a fine showing!

Over 900 Followers!
Thank you so much! My apologies for the mini-break, life (and work!) happened again, but I’ll do my best to give you at least a little bit of content each month during the off-season.
At the moment, far and away the most popular post features Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat. The most popular posts of April featured Wakaba Higuchi, Evgenia Medvedeva, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, Aliona Savchenko and Bruno Massot and Shoma Uno.

Gabrielle Daleman, Cup of China 2017 (Free Skate)
Gabby’s Gladiator program generally felt like a missed opportunity to me, but the costume? The costume was fulfilled expectations and then some.
Golden gauntlets! Paired with burgundy!
And a wonderfully intricate bodice.

Dabin Choi, PyeongChang Olympics 2018 (Short Program)
This is such a delicate, ethereal dress, and it suits Dabin’s style beautifully.
I love how the movement of the sleeves accentuates the movement of the skirt, and how generally it’s like she’s a sleek lovely teal-and-white cloud.
And the details on the bodice are first rate.

Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker, World Figure Skating Championships 2018 (Short Dance)
At the beginning of the season, if I recall correctly, Kaitlin had on a searing orange dress that while very Latin, was also not very easy on the eyes. Thankfully she changed pretty quickly into this fabulous little number!
(This one’s from US Nationals)
Check out that skirt! Though the bodice is also nothing to sneeze at.
Jean-Luc, as you can see, took plunging necklines very seriously (actually I think his plunges further than hers) along with some snazzy stripes, and I appreciate it.
