Welcome In Your Jungle
I found the lion standing in the crowd
off to the side
regal
and proud
It was somewhere in between the first glance and the double take
that we fell
fell down
dropped with the beat
danced into the nights
absorbed in the Pretty Lights
and even when the night was done
our desires rose with the Tennessee sun
A suspension of reality
yet your touch was real
and all the emotions we could feel
yes they were real
So i found myself in the warmth of your den
We laid there long into the night
No longer willing to fight
so we gave in
I caressed your dreaded mane
overwhelmed by what became
our love
so short so sweet
because reality was right below our feet
And no matter how high
we always came back down to tap the ground
Now our secrets lie in the music
Still baking under the summer sun
but its ok because were not done
One day we will be
Our own reality

Day Nine
Nothing beats a good rap song. Smooth and sound and some good stuff to listen to in there. Talk about a song with a good "pocket" - gotta have a nice groove.

Day Two
When it comes to a song I deem as "good" I like for quality of sound and quality of lyrics. Of course that's all up to personal interpretation, but those are the two qualifiers. That's why I just can't get behind screamo; the quality of sound is so bad you can't even hear the lyrics. Or how a lot of time with certain rap songs or country they'll have great lyrics but not the quality of sound I've been looking for.
Human by The Killers is a great example of a "good" song and a song that is important to me. It's got genius lyrics and a great simple rock vibe. Not only that but it's just one of those songs that has always been behind me as a dancer and as a human looking for something and anything out of life.

Day One
A friend of mine challenged me to summarize my musical taste in four artists. I've been grappling and debating trying to figure out my answer to this challenge. I've decide that the best way is to slowly but surely go through some of the songs that are most prominent in my life and see where that leads me. I will spend the next 25 days posting and discussing songs that mean something to me, that are my favorites, and that cover the spectrum. Then, on day 26, I'll finally pick my 4 artists.
I can't think of a time in my life where this song didn't just make me smile. I've grown up listening to Norah Jones, and to me I think she is one of the most genuinely talented artists of my day. This song will forever make me think of summer car rides driving past fields of corn as we made our way from North Carolina to Michigan. Therefore, Seven Years is my day one.

"Doin' It"
This summer my friends and I picked up the phrase "doin' it" while at Bonnaroo. Contrary to how it sounds "doin't it" does not actually mean having sex - at least not usually. If a person is "doin' it" they're just doing life really fucking well. If you go to a rave with your best friends and have the time of your life you're doin' it. If you have sex with a guy that you've been crushing on for too long then you are literally and figuratively doin' it. It's a way of recognizing times when people are just having fun, going all out, and being 100% confident about it.
Now, all my friends and I are off at school at different parts of the world and quite frankly we've embraced the "doin' it" lifestyle quite well. We're making friends, we're being ourselves without worrying about others' judegements, partying, raving, and all the while still kicking ass in school. It feels good.
Try it.
Do it.

This song has haunted me all summer. Both the original and the Pretty Lights remix. How ironic that as I face incredible amounts of change in my life this is the song playing in the grocery store, on the radio, or the song that comes on my iPod right when I feel like I can't run any longer.
Change is really fucking scary. Not to be blunt but it's true. Who doesn't shrink back in the face of overwhelming change? Not only that but in all honesty I don't handle change well. Especially when it involves people. I've never been one to partake in engaging in conversation with every girl on a hallway - especially when it's done more as a survival tactic than a true hunt for friends. Girls can really be very silly.
Now I face a big change, and I'm trying to handle it the best I can. Patience. Patience is the key. In times of change remembering that being calm and just waiting it out can often answer a lot of the overwhelming quirks that come into my life. In time I will find people like me and not just the bobsy girls running around desperately looking for attention. In time Madison will feel like home away from home. In time I will look back on changes and be thankful they happened. I hope that they help me, teach me, help me be me. It's been a long time coming and change is gonna come.
