omg so !!!!!  I actually feel like rowlin would be kind of excited to meet joff at first???? like he doesn’t have a lot of friends (ur shocked) and I think he’d be excited to have another young noble around!!!!! and so I do think that he’d be nice to him (altho a little condescending b/c he iS the warden and joff is just the younger brother of a smaller and newer noble house) but yeah he’d want to have someone to hang out with!!!!!!! but .... yeah, I feel like joff will hate rowlin once he sees the kind of person he is and so I feel like their “friendship” will be short lived if it even gets off the ground, at all lol

cassiusmontagu:
Cassius inclined his head.  “I shall,” he assured the young Warden.  Indeed, he doubted Rowena would much care, but it had given him a pretext for coming and, he knew, she would be more or less glad to hear that young Rowlin had been honored by her congratulations.  Rowena Godiva liked little more than to be headed and admired.
Once again Cassius inclined his head, this time in recognition of a favor done.  “Then, you have my thanks.  I hope, too, I may tell my friends that this honor extends to them, as well,” he began softly as servants scuttled about, placing heaping piles of food before them.  “A contingent of them shall be arriving…presently.”  Any day now, he supposed.  “As it happens, they are cousins of the late Lord Valles, which is the cause of their coming, and are most honored soon to meet Your Lordship.”
Tilting his head, Cassius listened intently as Rowlin spoke.  In truth, he was accustomed to listening so when people spoke of things that did not interest him.  After all, he had much practice in the area: he had a seat on the Queen’s Council.  “I am sorry to hear that they were not to your liking.  Perhaps your forthcoming nuptials will provide ample opportunity to rectify whatever may have been lacking in the ceremonies of your ascension.”  The Dragonrider arched his brows.  “I suppose that must be difficult.  Most men loose such a station when they loose their lives: few are obliged to step down.”
In truth, Cassius had little love for Lucian Moran, and felt that there was little to recommend so severe a man for the position of Warden.  However, his replacement also seemed rather to lack the positive qualities that recommended leadership.  This was the case all across Aragoth: the West, which was technically led by a four year old child, seemed to have the most capable government.  In any case, he found himself biting back a grim smile.  He was confident such a sentiment had often been expressed regarding himself.
“I suppose he must have other qualities,” said Cassius, because it seemed the thing to say.  He glanced down at his plate, glanced with his most sociable expression (only a few beats away from his usual scowl) to the young Warden.  He was, after all, here mostly to make out the character of the young man.  “How do you best like to pass your time?”
He must be a fine actor, thought Cassius.  He seemed genuinely sullen considering the fate of Jon Valles - and, as Warden, this was required of him when receiving such news - but Cassius could not help but think it must be an act.  Who could regret the death of a monster?  Certainly, Cassius knew, no one would grieve his own passing.  “He shall, my lord.  Already he awaits his trial in the Queen’s deepest cells.  There is little doubt as to the truth of the matter,” (which was, of course, that Alexandir was innocent and yet destined to die), “And the Queen’s jury shall no doubt see this for themselves, soon enough.”  His trial would reach only one conclusion and then his head would be cleaved from his shoulders and the name of Godiva would be at an end.  “The Queen,” he began, rather ironically.  “Has never shied from justice such as this.”
“Of course,” Rowlin said, “Any friend of yours, is certainly a friend of mine.” He took another sip of wine, “Cousins of the late Lord Valles?” He inquired, considering, “I shall be very eager to meet them. I promise you, i shall make certain that they are comfortable here.” He’d heard something about them: perhaps it was his uncle who had said something? He couldn’t be sure. Whenever his uncle spoke, he tended not to listen to much he had to say. They’d inherited from Valles, he supposed. Or was it that they’d been given the land by his widowed wife? Either way, he was happy to meet them: as relatives to Valles and friends of Montagu, Rowlin was sure that they would prove to be valued acquaintances.
“Indeed. My wedding shall be a grand affair. You are most welcome to attend, of course,” He said. “In fact, I insist upon it!” He added, smiling, as though he had the right to command anything of Cassius Montagu. He suddenly imagined what a grand celebration his wedding would be, especially with a dragon rider in attendance. Few weddings, nowadays, were blessed with such a presence. He planned to count his own amongst them.
He laughed, “I wonder what the old man will get up to these days, now that he’s out of a job. He’ll remain here, I expect, trying to do things for me.” He won’t get far, Rowlin thought. He had no intention of listening to anything Lucian Moran had to say ever again. “He’s getting married, you know.” He commented, “To Margery Mortain from the South. Have you ever met her, my lord? Is she is as old and ugly as they say she is?”
Rowlin took another sip of wine, “I enjoy a great many things,” He said, “Riding and hunting when the weather is warm enough, and attending grand feasts and balls when it is not, and of course,” He smiled mischievously, “attending to my fiancée during all sorts of weather. Have you had the pleasure of meeting Lady Vipont? She is very beautiful. Very beautiful, indeed.”
Rowlin nodded solemnly, “I never doubted the dwarf’s involvement.” He said, “He only visited here once that I remember, but I never liked him. There was something about him ... something that left me feeling suspicious of his character.” The something had been that Alexandir Godiva had not stood for Rowlin’s conduct and had humiliated him in front of everyone. Rowlin hadn’t taken kindly to that. “I’m sorry that someone had to die, for it to finally come to light.”

Oh yeah, I feel like Rowlin and Lena are destined to have a not!!! great!!!! relationship!!! at all!!!!!
So, I feel like, in the past he totally used to (try) to hit on her??? Like she’s beautiful and witty and tbh he definitely had his sights set higher as far as future ~wife~ material goes, but I feel like he wouldn’t mind Lena as like a side piece tbh haha and def tried to get with her! But I already know that Lena would have none of it and tbh he hates her a LOT now b/c of a) she’s his sisters (Ew) best friend???? And stands up fo rher??????? but also b) she totally rejected him??!?!?!?!?!?? nOT OKAY!?!?!?!?!?! Also I feel like he definitely hardcore would flirt with Imanie after that to try to make her jealous and if not jealous than at least angry and Imanie totally thought that Rowlin was the best and wanted to marry him and thought that that was going to be a thing for a long time but Rowlin was definitely just playing with her emotions to get to Lena and really doesn’t care at all about Imanie????
I think he’s kind of moved on from Imanie for the moment tho since he’s distracted by his fiance +++ all of the demon god things so ... there’s that????
Anyway, I still think that everytime they see each other, they argue about sOMETHING whether it is Alia or rowlin’s new hobby of burning ppl or any of the other wonderful things rowlin likes to do!!! :DDDD
OOC | Lena & Rowlin
Things are def heating up in the north now that Rowlin’s ruling there…and burning everything tbh lakjsdflkjsdklfjds  Speaking of which, Lena will not!! be! cool! w! that!!!!!!  Like…murder is wroNG, the demon god is noT someone you wanna befriend and, if none of that were worth talking about, burning ppl has gotta be super triggering for Lena so…YAY /sarcasm  And jeeze honestly idk how things’ll go or anything but she’s probs gonna get herself in trouble asp by speaking out #facepalm bc…I feel like that’s just…not something she’ll be able to ignore (but, then, she’s never been good at that anyway #whoops)
As it is, rn he’s the bullying brother to one of her bffs and Lena is not!! cool w that she literally didn’t care (tho she probs should have) all these years that he would someday be Warden and has deF told him off bc what! is! planning! ahead! when there’s justice out there kahdskfljdskljafj  I mean, I ~do think that she’s not the sort who screams at ppl or anything (unless it’s really, really bad) but she iS the sort who stands up for ppl and she’d be all like ‘how can you say things like that to someone who has only ever been kind to you’ and ‘is this how you would like to be treated’ and mom things like that #facepalm

cassiusmontagu:
For all that Cassius had swept across the lenght of Aragoth many times by now, the feeling of it still intoxicated him.  Soaring above all, wind whipping his face, Cassius gazed down at the passing scenery below, watched as the trees grew to tiny pricks of green, the houses became tiny squares.  He observed the shift from rolling hills to craggy peaks to great snow-encrusted mountains, felt the according shift in the condition so far above.  Wrapped in leathers and furs to keep warm, and set atop a dragon whose blood pumped hot like liquid flame, he closed his eyes momentarily to feel the fingers of the air rush across him.  And then, as one, dragon and rider had spotted Blaminster, plunged downward to cast a great shadow over all the north.
Blaminster was, in Cassius Montagu’s own opinion, the bleakest place in all of Aragoth.  Even the lonely, ice-capped mountains that surrounded it did not strike him as quite so miserable.  Dismounting his dragon, he marched towards the keep, glad of his furs as he cast a glance over his shoulder towards Rhaegar.  The dragon eyed all surrounded him with suspicion - a view Cassius shared.  It was easy to regard others with suspicion when one had once been turned traitor, oneself.
Snow crunched beneath Cassius’ boots as he strode to the gates.  There was no need to announce himself: a creature nearly the size of a small castle landed outside ones walls was not easy to miss even for the most idle of watchmen.  Already, attendants scurried to meet him, to carry out his wishes.  Unfortunately for everyone involved, his wish was, primarily, to be left alone.  It did not take him long to gain the Great Hall.  it would have taken him a still shorter time, Cassius thought, had it not been for the fawning servants.
“Lord Stafford,” said Cassius, sweeping a bow.  “Our gracious Queen sends her greetings and congratulations on your glorious elevation to majority.”  Yet, it was not Rowena which had brought him here.  Cassius was eager to be north, now that the east held few charms for him.  As the Fontaines had not yet made it to Blaminster, Cassius was pleased to go ahead of them and ensure that all was in fine estate for their arrival, whenever it should take place.
Rowlin Stafford was a wearisome fellow, in Cassius’ own regard, but for once he was eager to speak to him.  With Rowlin as reigning Warden in his official capacity, and the Fontaines soon to be at his mercy, Cassius was intent upon fully scoping him out.  They had met and spoken on numerous occasions before, of course, but things were different now.  Lucian Moran was nowhere in sight to help politely edit Rowlin’s words for his draconian auditor.
“I would be honored,” said Cassius, politely, assuming the chair proffered.  “Please accept my sincerest apologies in neglecting to send word ahead of my coming.  My journey was undertaken suddenly and, coming on dragonwing, no rider or raven could hope to overtake me.  I’d wager word will arrive in but a day or two,” he remarked with a twinge of dry humor.  He paused.  “I hope that the festivities celebrating your majority were suitably…” he considered the appropriate word.  “Splendid.”
He paused.  “I bring…tidings from the capitol, which may already have reached your ears here.  Your vassal, Jon Valles, was murdered at his own wedding by the former Duke of Raimbeaucourt.  Lord Valles left in his wake a bride of some hours: the Queen’s cousin, the Lady Lynessa of the Houses of Beaumont and Arrington.”
“You may give our good Queen my thanks,” He replied, a smug smile upon his lips. He’d never received any such message from the Queen before (until now, he had surely escaped her notice) and there was a swell of pride upon hearing it (and from Cassius Montagu, the Last Dragon Rider, no less). He’d only been Warden in the North for a few months and already he often believed himself to be King in all but name of these parts. On days like today, he certainly felt it.
“Please - “ Rowlin said, holding up a hand to stop him, “No need to apologize. You are always welcome here and we shall always be prepared for your coming.” Rowlin had much and more to learn about where he should spend his coins, but it was true that there was always more than enough food prepared and the entire castle was always kept in perfect condition. He may not be prepared for anything, but he was certainly prepared for himself (and his guests, if he had any) to enjoy all of the comforts and pleasures of Soarhall.
He couldn’t help but scoff, “They were ... tolerable. Although, in some cases, quite boring.” He sighed, “But, that is what I should have expected, I suppose, with my uncle in charge of them. It wasn’t so much a celebration for him. I’m sure he was sorry to see his time as Warden come to an end.”
He took another sip of wine, “Although, you know, I don’t think he would have been able to do much better, had he really tried. My uncle doesn’t know how to enjoy himself. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him smile.” He managed a laugh at that: what a poor miserable old man.
He became serious again, when Cassius mentioned the fate of Jon Valles. “I have heard. The North will mourn his loss.” He knew Lord Valles but a little. They’d met once or twice before, but Rowlin was often ushered off to an early retirement by his uncle whenever guests were about. There was something about him that he’d admired, however, and he was sad to hear of his death. The company here in the North was, as a whole, rather tiresome. “And I trust that the Duke shall be dealt with properly, even though he is the Queen’s own uncle?”

🍕 which muse is a terrible cook
So many!!!!!! There’s a lot of them who haven’t ever even tried cooking at all???? And just kinda think food just appears for them??? Like Rowlin Stafford, Leck Quasar, Henrietta Allen, Ward Eastwood, Chase Hawthorne, Max Monroe, Renfry Moran, Cornelius Pembrooke, Lennox Stanford, and Harvey Wilder would all cook terrible meals (if they could be bothered to even try … which I don’t think any of them would be. Except maybe Ward when he’s trying to impress the ladies, but lbr he def thinks that having a five star chef cook a private meal for them is more impressive so …)
I know that Roran DeGrey and Kara Larsson have both tried cooking and failed terribly (but they both keep trying ~*~thumbs up emoji~*~)
And then there’s Greg Walker who is definitely super bad at cooking and knows it. So he just makes cereal and heats up frozen burritos to survive.

Visitor from the East | Rowlin & Cassius
His servant was out of breath.
He’d run all the way up from the courtyard, as fast as his short legs could carry him to deliver the news. But the time he saved with his speed, he now wasted gasping for air.
“What is it?” Rowlin asked, feigning some interest. He was already annoyed.
“My --- my lord -- “
“Yes? Get on with it.”
“It’s Cassius Montagu, my lord. He has arrived .... unexpectedly ... from the East ... on his .... with his ...  his dragon.”
No matter how many times the peasants had seen the Last Dragon, it still seemed to both amaze and terrify them. And so it should. But Rowlin, Warden of the North, had nothing to fear from the dragon or its rider.
Moments later, Cassius Montagu was shown into the great hall. Rowlin had not seen him since becoming Warden and a smile formed at the corner of his lips as he sat in the lord’s chair at the end of the hall and waited for Montagu to come to him.
“Welcome to Blaminster. Please, won’t you join me?” He asked, extending his hand to the seat on his right. “I was just about to break my fast. If we had known you were coming, we would have, of course, prepared more of a feast.” Despite this, there was food enough and more for the two of them set before Rowlin.

ooc | Rowlin & Symon
JENN!
so rowlin and symon’s grandfathers were bros, so I guess that makes them second cousins???? anyway, they are related, haha! okay, so rowlin is one of the northern staffords and symon is one of the western staffords, so they probably don’t see each other ~that~ much (which honestly is a good thing for symon b/c rowlin has a lot in common with joffrey baratheon and he’s the warden in the north so! fun!)
but, I can see where maybe symon has visited his northern relations in the past??? I don’t think Rowlin has ever really gone anywhere, himself, b/c until he turned eighteen, he was his uncle’s ward and his uncle just kinda forgot about him and I feel like Rowlin lived a very sheltered childhood.
So Rowlin doesn’t like most people ... but he does like the Staffords (as a rule) b/c they are family! .... even if he’s one of the poorer staffords. which means he’s not as great as the rest of the staffords but not as worthless as someone else of his same social status. that being said, he still acts like an ass to them (b/c he doesn’t know how else to be???) but he treats them a little bit better than he does other people???? so there’s that????  I do think he’d look down on symon a little since he’s just a knight and he’s the warden and rowlin does want symon to know his place lol.

ooc | Rowlin & Cassius
I feel like Rowlin’s feelings toward Cassius are??? so??? weird???? Like he’s only 18 so he doesn’t remember the world much before Rowena was Queen and so he’s kinda grown up hearing the stories about Cassius and tbh I feel like he’s kinda been painted as a hero to the youth of Aragoth (s/o to cousin Lysander!!!!) And I think he kinda grew up looking up to Cassius???? Not that he knew him well (if at all???) before he became Warden, but yeah.
Anyway now that he’s a “grown man” and warden in the north, things are a little different??? Like, Rowlin is super sheltered for a warden (thanks uncle!!!!) ... although weirdly the least sheltered of all of the wardens lol (its not hard to do when ur competition is loys and a five year old). Anyway, he’s never been anywhere else and he definitely basically considers himself to be king in the north in all but name and, as such, the most powerful person in aragoth (rowena aside). and like ~technically~ he knows he’s on the same level as the other wardens but even he realizes that he has more control than either of them do at present haha.
So even tho Cassius is Rowena’s right hand man, Rowlin definitely relishes in the idea that he’s even above him and that he could say “no” to cassius unless he had a direct order from the Queen. So like ... I feel like he’d both try to suck up to him as the only dragon rider/the hero of his youth, but also get a kick out of trying to exert his power????????

.... that awkward moment. ;DDD
lol like literally everyone wants Rowlin dead for one reason or another, ahah. But I feel like Rowlin would be nice to Normand, too, b/c he’s Lyna’s cousin and the next in line for the west but he def doesn’t like him (no surprises there). And I feel like when he comes up he just tries pull out all the stops so Normand sees how much better the North is than the West but then there’s Normand who is just like “ah yes, that will be nice when this is mine” #facepalm
Still, he def would appreciate him stroking his ego b/c that’s one of Rowlin’s fav things tbh and I think he would def underestimate Normand (altho he def underestimates most people tbh).
But yeah, I can def see where Normand was the one who helped negotiate the whole betrothal thing. I feel like Rowlin would have wanted Eloisa b/c ~warden’s sister/aunt (as the case may have been), but maybe Normand got him thinking about Lyna instead?? (selling your cousin down the river to save your sister yayyy)
OOC | Normand & Rowlin
S/o to you, man, you’ve picked the best possible alliance in House Vipont!!!!!!!  …But tbh as soon as he impregnates Lyna, Normand probs intends to see him dead so he can assume control of the North in the name of Lyna’s half-Vipont child.  But in the mean time, he’s def making nice with Rowlin bc that’s more a plot that’ll come more to mind as Rowlin’s instability becomes increasingly apparent.  In the mean time, he’s happy to make friends and secure an alliance with the North and set himself up so he can have fingers in everyone’s pie, basically  So, yeah, he’ll def be stroking Rowlin’s ego and everything to get him inclined towards Normand etc.  If nothing else, Rowlin’s support will hopefully help him climb to the top when Gerolt dies etc.  I can also see where Normand might’ve helped negotiate the whole betrothal thing with Lyna etc?  (I DONT think she knows of his plans to take over the West)
