I read all three books available at the time, got as much information from the books as I could about Victoria, and then sat down and put together a fake backstory on who she was before she was a vampire. I realized that vampires are unique because they are humans first and they were not born monsters. So I thought, How do I bring that kind of humanness and a kind of humanity into playing a vampire? As a result, when I found myself playing the “evil” part, I could not look at her as a monster. I can’t play a character that I am judging. She clearly doesn’t see herself as evil, so what is it about her? What came of this thought process was that she is a kind of menace. (x)
