I am in love with Greta

Something I really loved about this show were the queer friendships, with Greta and Jo, and Carson and Max. Those close bonds between gays that have nothing to do with romance, just a shared camaraderie, the security of knowing your safe with this person, the understanding of shared experiences. It feel very authentic to the queer experience, but we don’t get to see them often enough in media, probably because they normally require more than two gay characters which a lot of writers seem to think is asking too much.

so i’m rewatching aloto (the brainrot is so real) and i just realized that greta is the person who pushed carson to even just make it to tryouts.  like, of course carson is gonna say that she can’t go with her to new york, she has made every decision from tryouts to that day with greta involved in some way.  carson is learning to be an independent queen!!  

greta is the one who let carson come with her and jo to baker field, she’s the one who pushed her to write that letter and then NOT give up her dream to play ball when she regrets sending it.  not to mention the gayness of it all.

so that’s why in my most recent fic (find it here) i have carson sticking to that independence instead of immediately running back to greta

have we talked yet about how kara’s whole thing in the finale was that she wants to be able to be open with her identity with someone and live her truth and “connect with someone as her whole self” when the entirety of the season was spent showing exactly what that would look like… with lena? 

like the couch scenes with kara not wearing her glasses and the two of them working together in the field and then coming home together, lena watching kara fly into her apartment like its nothing, the constant use of “el marayah” whenever lena wanted to connect to kara like come on

“THIS IS LESBIAN ACTIVITY”

I was feeling emo and rewatching some scenes from Tremors episode. You know THAT scene when Lena goes all “I killed my brother for YOU”, and just prior to that scene my dad comes into my room and decides to tag along watching. For context: I live in Russia, where the older generation can be pretty homophobic, so I was kinda worried what would dad think about this scene (I’m not out and don’t watch anything LGBTQ+ with parents now to make them suspicious). But then I thought wait but Kara and Lena aren’t actually together on the show, they’re fRiEnDs, nothing to worry about. So, Lena’s in the middle of her monologue, Kara’s a red crying mess and my dad goes “Это подружки? (Are they gal pals) to which I obliviously reply yup and he continues with “подружки-лесбиянки” (lesbian gal pals). I honestly didn’t know whether to crack up or be worried and obviously answered NoOoO why???🤪🤔. He said “well I just thought so”… (he’s never even seen that show before wtf)

If a 50 year old man who lives in a country where people his age barely acknowledge homosexual undertones thinks Kara and Lena are lesbians right away after a literal MINUTE of watching them talk (he doesn’t even know English, so he judged by their emotions and body language) then maybe there shouldn’t be any doubts about the show being a queer bait.

These are just the last three fics I wrote. I appreciate the likes, believe me I do, but you have to understand. Likes do nothing for content creators. It’s the reblogs. Because that’s how you find shit on your dashboard. Through reblogs. Not likes. This isn’t twitter or tiktok or instagram. This is a website that’s run by the reblog system.

Reblogging helps content creators put their stuff out there. Why do you think so many people stopped writing fanfic and creating beautiful fanart and edits? It’s because they put in hours of work and don’t get nearly enough notes for their masterpieces. Yes we do this because we enjoy it but like...some validation won’t hurt. A boost of confidence here and there might be all someone needs to finish whatever thing they started and left.
