Photoshoot NO.2- including dances, perspective/optical illusive angles.
I like them all but some are too busy to use as final, despite surreal poses telling perspective.
I like the eeriness and clear disuse of building.

After my crit on Friday 14th May.
I showed and discussed my garment and photoshoot with my classmates and tutors and I realised I wanted to do another photoshoot where I direct the model more with her character poses and facial expressions, such as looking less into the camera.
I also got feedback to shoot with a less busy background, as it’s too distracting.
I also want to take my garment further and smear plaster on the garment so it crumbles as the model dances/moves in it, like in the testers.
So I visited Highgate abandoned railway station as I can’t go back to AP theatre, and made storyboards on how it would look.

Photoshoot at Ally Pally.
We got private access and I had expected to go to the dungeons but when we arrived the man said they are too dangerous and dark. He instead unlocked lots of other doors and left us free to roam in some derelict parts of AP and some recently refurbished parts, like the naturally decayed theatre.
I experimented with making the garment look isolated and like a stand-alone piece, and also look surreal to capture the dream-like potential of derelict buildings, similar to my research. One of my methods for this was covering the face in black mesh.

Storyboarding potential locations for photoshoot.
Screenshots from youtube videos of dancers in derelict buildings or dances about exploring identity- as inspiration for poses. How the body can interact with the building and appreciate the walls and space.

Location scouting for photoshoot. Isaac and I stumbled across the empty, unused arches underneath Vauxhall station as we were trying to access a derelict warehouse spotted on the train. Many of the doors were unlocked so we walked in.

First time testing the garment on a model- worked on him but not on myself- it didn’t fit right as it needs to be put on in a specific way. I will glue these parts into place to avoid that happening again.
I felt protected when wearing garment= success

Construction process Ended up sewing garment onto toile for extra thickness and strength. Also ran out of green fabric so covered calico bits in textile samples.

Final, favourite textile sample which I chose to take forward and made more.
Includes printed/baked fabrics sewn together at some edges only, leaving other ones unsewn or peeling for 3D look. Posca pen on top of all, with motifs from squatters walls or scribbles about my buildings’ past
Evaluation: I want to incorporate more motifs about buildings, such as ally pally logo from early 1900s and drawings made by the squatters in Maverick house. Asked my family what they thought of textile and they said they love graffiti side to it, so I want to hold on to that technique for rest of textile. Peer tutorial with Izzy and Josh- said they think I should tear it up a bit, make it look a bit more ragged. I agree with this feedback.

More textile iterations, pinned onto garment. some were successful, like the third photo which was too 2D looking and reminded me of autumn leaves.

FABRIC SWATCHES FOR FINAL TEXTILE
Based around idea of layering and peeling walls to show the long, complicated past life of a building. Involved using the underside of printed fabric for faded look, baking fabric to get crispy effect, although this was sometimes too harsh looking, and use of real wall paper textured samples, as they have the firmness and combination of crispiness and softness that the walls in Maverick House had.
