Harry/Draco, first kiss after the war

(This is based on that alternate ending of the Deathly Hallows Pt 2 movie where Draco actually runs over to Harry’s side after it turns out Harry’s alive.)

Unexpectedly (H/D, nothing too explicit)

Harry walked away from the castle after a while. They weren’t quite done finding all the bodies, and the wreckage would take a lot longer than that, but he’d come to the end of what he could bear, at least for the moment. Even half-crumbled, the walls felt too close around him after a year living nearly in the open air. Or maybe it wasn’t the walls, but the eyes looking at him, already trying to pen him in again, as though he hadn’t just finished climbing out of the box labeled destiny.

The veela powers manifested unexpectedly at 11:53 am on his twenty-first birthday, in the middle of the Auror Department. Harry ended up desperately fleeing pursuit back and forth across Diagon Alley, accumulating more and more wizards along the way like some sort of involuntary pied piper, until he was finally cornered by the mob. He had to blast open the front window of Quality Quidditch Supplies and steal the new Cleansweep Century out of the display and go flat-out until he lost the last pursuers some thirty miles outside London.

Potter’s smiles used to be small, secret things he doled out to bestow his favour, Draco had always thought. They were personalized, private—a smile for Granger, one for Weasley, one for Dumbledore. Later, one for Lovegood, one for the girl-Weasley.

But now, Potter seems to have found an absolute largesse—smiles for fellow professors, smiles for students, smiles for librarians, house-elves, squids. Then there’s that one in particular, that subtle uptick in the corner of his mouth, the flicker in his eyes. Why does it always look so goddamn surprised?

Oh.

Oh, Draco sees.
