First of all, I really like the Catfolk series so far! Jagar is bae, I hope he will have more spotlight soon because daaaamn lol. But for my question: I saw you mentioned something in a previous answer about requests. WOuld you be open for requests now? Or does writing take up your whole time now?
Hi Anon!
Well, it's not that I don't have time for requests, I just don't really no what to offer you guys at the moment, haha! I enjoy writing about these kittycats right now, and after I finish their story, I want to open up request for either them, or generally about the catfolk.
I also like various games and series, so well, we'll see about that. If you guys send something, I will probably try my best to deliver it, depending on the subject.
And I'm really glad you like Jagar! <3
I hope I cleared up everything for you Anon! :)

Chapter Four: And there she came, with the morning breeze
Summary: As the males left for a hunting trip, you find yourself a new endearing friend. Warnings: none. Word count: 2738 Note from Rogue: Well, uh, I was kind of rusty when I started this series (sometimes I feel like I'm still a little bit off, but I can't complain), so I started with lower word count but... Well, it just felt good to write, let me know once it gets too much for comfort, haha! Also, there was a request about a female option, and I'm happy oblige to that. Let me know if you like her!
Bataar and a few of the males, including Jargal, left not much before dusk, hoping for a successful hunting trip.
It was strange to be here in the hut without him all night. He usually returned home at night, whatever he did before that, after that, you both had dinner and headed to bed. You knew how to cook, but the Maeko did a lot of things differently. Luckily, Bataar wasn't a fussy eater, and he was patient enough with you anyway.
You turned to your side on your makeshift bed, the furs keeping you warm on the chilly night.
"Don't worry. We'll see each other tomorrow."
You still heard his voice in your head from earlier. It was a strange feeling. You did worry about him, not that you didn't think he could stand his ground on a hunting trip. It was more that he won't be here with you. Why did you feel that way? It was a strange tug on your heart.
You missed him, and it made you wonder. You didn't really think about him that much for the last week. Not in that way, at least…
He was tall and muscular, his yellow eyes always reflected so much care in them as he looked at you. Everyone knew they could rely on him, including you.
He would make a fine mate, and you knew that. You also knew that it wasn't that weird for a catfolk to choose a mate from a different species, although you still find the idea a bit out of your comfort zone. Two weeks ago you weren't even sure if they existed, and now some of them gossip about you being the mate of a catfolk chieftain. It all happened too fast, and while you were entirely grateful for their hospitality, it was a lot to take in.
You didn't even know much about their culture. Of course, Bataar, Ekna, and Duren helped you out when you had questions, but there was still so much that you didn't know.
You closed your eyes as you felt your body getting heavier. You went to bed a while ago, but only now you felt how tired you were. As you slowly drifted to sleep, a thought still pondered in your mind.
It’s decided. Tomorrow you will learn more about the Maeko, preferably before Bataar and the others come home.
A loud knocking woke you up. You almost kicked the fur blanket off of you, as you sit up. Light shone through the thin curtains, and you could hear the birds chirping outside. It was morning already.
“Good morning, human”, you heard a voice from outside. It was a female. “I just came to check in on you.”
A little confused, you stood up and went to answer the door.
It was a tiger, but a white one, with eyes so bright that you felt like they could pierce right through your soul. She had several small metal rings in her ears, and although she was much more feminine in build than Bataar, there was still so much more muscle on her than on the average Maeko female. She was tall too, and suddenly you felt almost as much intimidated when you first met Bataar.
"Ah, there you are.", she said with a smile, and without any question, she walked right in. You stepped back, blinking a few, slightly confused, but she walked through the door so naturally, you didn't even question it at first. She looked around before turning to you.
"Good thing Bataar took you in, the place looks tidier than ever."
With a smile, she looked you up and down.
"I'm Sheekah. Nice nightgown by the way."
You looked down at yourself, a bit embarrassed as you realized that you only wore the white nightgown that Bataar gave you. You only realized last night that it was probably his late mate's once.
"Do you have any plans for today, human?"
You looked up at Sheekah, who paced around the room aimlessly, looking at a few little things around the shelves.
"Not that I know of, I just have a few chores around the hut."
"Good." Sheekah sent a satisfied smile in your direction. "You can help me out then. I'm in charge while Bataar is gone."
"Oh", you noted with a raised eyebrow. Until now, it seemed that just as in your human world, there was some kind of imbalance between the genders. You didn't really see many females doing what the males did, and vice versa. Honestly, Sheekah was the first who looked like she could handle whatever Bataar and the males were doing out there during a hunt.
"Don't be so surprised now." Sheekah obviously noticed your tone, but she didn't look offended as the smile never left her black lips. "I know it's different where you came from, but here, there's little to no limit to what you can do if you are capable. Most of us just don't feel like doing that kind of work. And I'm not one of them."
She sounded kind of proud of that, and you understood why. In fact, you liked that idea. As tough and a bit intimidated as she looked, there was a certain kind of power that radiated from her: and you respected it instantly.
"So go on, get changed, I'll wait for you outside." She nodded in your direction and left you in the hut as quickly as she came in.
You just stood there for a minute, mind still a bit hazy from the sudden wake up.
Well, Sheekah seemed friendly enough to ask her about cultural topics, right?
You got dressed as soon as you could and left the hut. Sheekah was outside, sitting on a small bench in front of the hut, with a chicken in her hand.
"Ready for some work, human?"
She looked up at you with a small smile as she petted the hen. That made you smile too, the way she held the bird in her paws so delicately.
"Yeah, I am."
She walked proudly beside you, and although she was just as restless as Bataar when it came to solving problems around the village, her style was quite different. When you saw him, Bataar usually walked around the village like a shadow, watching over his little kingdom from the background, and he only spoke when it was necessary. Not that he was hard to approach: he was always ready for a quick chat with the locals, or hang around a little with the cubs if they were brave enough to ask him to play hide and seek. He seemed to cherish these moments and you really liked that about him, but it also seemed that he preferred to just watch over his folk, humbly observing what he was working so hard for every day.
But Sheekah: as you made your way through the village, it was clear she was more than happy to involve herself in pretty much anything. All the villagers greeted her with a few nice words or waved at her with a faint smile at least, and she had a kind answer for everything, even if was just a handshake. But as everyone recognized her around the main street, it also meant that it was nearly impossible to ask her any questions. You didn't mind it that much though, watching her kind of reassured your feelings about the Maeko. It was a big village, but most of the locals seemed close to each other, like a big, close-knit family you could always count on. Of course, you learned on your own, that there were exceptions, as always. Like Jargal himself.
As you reached the outskirts of the village, Sheekah looked down at you with a smile.
"Let me know if I walk too fast."
"Ah, it's okay", you shrugged with a smile.
"Good, I wasn't sure if you could keep up with those nice little legs you got."
You chuckled, but only realized her words a second after. Nice little legs? They weren't that little, well, compared to her they sure were, but… Hey, was that a compliment?
"We're gonna see how the fence is coming along near the gates. Not much before you appeared, something tore it down and there was all kinds of ruckus around that night. No one really saw what it was, and although most of us went out to find it… Well, Bataar and the rest only found you out there."
So that's what he was doing so far away. You never saw any of them in the forest, though you never ventured out as far as you did on that… horrifying night.
But right now, something bothered you a bit more than that.
"…Something broke in? What could it be? A wild animal?"
"Well, if it was an animal, it was something we never saw before. The scent was different, and at some point, it faded away. Whatever it was, two of us lost their life that night, so we have to fortify the fence, or even the boars will come in and eat all of our shit."
The morning went like that. Sheekah made sure everything went smoothly while Bataar was away, from repairing the fence to discussing urgent matters about the crops and the livestock. You were right beside her, but honestly, there was so little you could help her out with, that it made you wonder: what could you possibly help her with? She was so independent, it was hardly anything she couldn't do just on her own.
Not much after noon, Sheekah looked around, watching over the village proudly as you two stood at the center, just where the bonfire was on that ominous night.
"Nice, great work. There's just one last thing we need to do, then you can go on your way if you would like."
You smiled up at her, curiously.
"Sure, what would it be?"
"We gonna deliver a package. Come, this way."
"So, delivery service is an ordinary task for a substitute?", you asked her with a coy smile as you followed her on the main road.
Sheekah let out a chuckle, elbowing you playfully as her tail shifted behind her.
"Only if it's for a special someone, that is."
The package itself wasn't too heavy. Well, packages, since it was two baskets, each covered with a rug. You didn't ask about it too much, assuming they contained all kinds of goods, maybe for someone as old as Altan. Who was maybe, a little less capable than Altan.
You had entirely different questions on your mind.
"Say, Sheekah… If I were a Maeko… I mean, is there any way you would notice if someone would, well…"
As you tried your best to voice your thoughts, you heard a snicker from Sheekah.
"It's kind of cute as you stumble upon your own worlds, human, but out with it."
That sentence tickled you in a way you wouldn't expect it, but you tried your best to focus on your question, though it was harder now with your heart pounding a bit faster.
"How could I notice if someone is trying to court me?"
Sheekah slowed down for a minute, seemingly thinking about your question. You were almost at the gate now.
"Well, uh, it depends on the person, but I guess it wouldn't be that much different from the human way." You seemed to catch her off guard with your question because her tone changed a little as she answered. "You know, trying to impress your potential mate with everything you got. Provide for them, protect them. That's the traditional way I guess."
"Well", you muttered as you thought about it, "If you put it that way, it isn't that different."
"Are you asking this because of Bataar?"
The question came a little too suddenly. It wasn't that surprising, sure, but it was her who caught you off guard this time. You looked at her with wide eyes before turning to the road again. You heard her chuckle again.
"Just so you know, I find it really cute how your embarrassment is clear on your face, human. You call it blush, am I right?"
There she was again. It was the second time she called you cute. First, you didn't consider it anything, but now, a thought lingered in your mind. Was she… Flirting?
"It is about Bataar. But how did you know?", you asked after a few seconds of silence, just as you walked outside the village.
'It's kind of obvious", Sheekah answered with a half smile. "No female has stepped inside that hut ever since Yagan died. Except for me, but I don't think I count."
"What do you mean?", you looked at her with some confusion.
"How should I put this?" She chuckled. "Ah, I gonna just say it. I have no interest in males. At all. Instead…"
She took a longer step now, getting in front of you. You stopped, looking at her curiously, although you had an idea too now. Sheekah was close to you, you saw her pink nose moving as she sniffed the air, almost unconsciously as it seemed.
"I'm after much more delicate things. Ones like you."
Even with your earlier suspicion, that last part caught you off guard. Your fingers gripped the basket a little tighter as your heartbeat quickened up again. So she was flirting earlier.
Sheekah didn't leave much time for you to react, she turned around chuckling, and continued her way on a path between the trees. You just stood there, still stunned.
"Are you coming, dove? The goods won't deliver themselves."
You followed her on the path, a bit embarrassed now. You weren't sure how to feel about all of this right now.
As you walked silently for a few minutes, you heard some familiar noise.
"Is that a creek?", you asked after a few seconds.
"Yup."
Just as Sheekah answered, you two stepped out of the trees, into a green little clearing. You finally saw a creek, and as you followed it with your eyes, you saw a hut. It was much more different than the ones in the village: it was almost covered in plants and moss, but it didn't look abandoned, more like, it was for the sake of aesthetics. It was idyllic.
"We have arrived. Neat little spot, huh?", Sheekah asked, almost proudly.
"It's beautiful! I haven't been outside of the village since I arrived, I didn't know I was living next to a spot like this!"
"Well, you can come here anytime when you would like some peace and quiet."
You looked at her as she stopped a few meters away from the house.
"Ah, I might ask the owner", you admitted, still in awe at the sight.
"No need to do that", Sheekah shook her head with a smile. "She just gave you her permission."
You stared at her for a few seconds before realizing what she just said.
"Wait, you live here?"
"Yes. Build it myself."
"Sheekah, that's…" You looked at the house again as your jaw almost hit the ground once again.
"Impressive? I know, I think so too. I thought I would like some privacy, but I didn't want to be too far away from the village. So, welcome to my humble hut."
"But wait, what are these then?", you looked down at the basket in your hand.
"Our lunch, silly. We worked hard for it, it's the least that we can eat with peacefully, out here."
You looked inside your basket and now you understood it. It was some kind of pastry in it, with a few fresh vegetables.
"Vagalh makes the best kind of smoked meat", Sheekah lifted the basket a little. "Come on, we should sit down and eat."
It was nice. Just the two of you, listening to the sounds of the forest, eating some delicious food. Sheekah was happy to answer your questions, and you listened to her intently.
You liked her. She was a little too rough with her words sometimes, but she was kind and caring. She seemed to understand your struggle with blending in, and tried her best to help you out. Her way of telling stories or talking about cultural differences was so smooth and easy to follow, you didn't even realized that you were sitting there with her for more than an hour after you two finished your dinner.
You knew it already, but after today, it became clear that this place was like heaven compared to your previous life. And one by one, you felt more and more like you finally found your place. No matter of the many things you still didn't no about the catfolk.
It already felt like you belonged here all your life.

hi!! About the catfolk.. i have some questions!!
you dont have to answer anything i just thought i'd ask <3
are there going to be things like mountain lions and jaguars and leopards (clouded, ect;)?
Since this seems to be a sort of 'choose your own ending' type story, would it be possible to request a lesbian romance option too? You dont have to, i just thought that maybe :3
Hi anon <3
For this particular story, I wasn't planning on a lot of different cats, mainly tigers and mah bebe Jargal, but in the future I would love to write about new characters too! I love clouded leopards and cheetahs for example, so I might open up for requests as well! I won't promise anything, but we'll see :)
As for a lesbian option, I was actually thinking about that for a while. I'm in love with women who could end my life within the blink of an eye (Sevika from Arcane or Eivor from AC Valhalla), so if I will add a female catfolk to the story, she will definitely be something like that haha. I'm open to the idea, so I will think about it!
Feel free to ask away if you have more questions or just want to chat anon, thank you for your kind interest <3

Chapter Three: A Quiet Afternoon
Summary: Just as you settle in, Jargal thinks it’s time to stir the pot. Warnings: cursing Word count: 1984
It was weird and still a little bit scary.
It has been a week since you agreed to stay with the Maeko, and although they lived very differently like the people at the mansion, it wasn't too hard to learn the ropes of being with the catfolk.
You stayed in Bataar's hut. You don't know how, but you missed the stairs to the upper floor when you first arrived and looked for a weapon. There wasn't anything special up there, just a bed and a few trophies he hunted down over the years. You slept on the furs downstairs, it was warm and surprisingly cozy.
During the first days, you didn't dare to leave his side. You learned that he was the chieftain of the Maeko, the tribe of tigerlike catfolk. At least, most of them were tigers, since there were a few exceptions among them. Like Duren, a kind lioness who helped you prepare food, and Ekna, the cheetah. She was direct and a bit rough with her words, she didn't speak your language that well, but she made sure you understood all the tasks she gave you.
And of course, there was Jargal, the black panther that still terrified you whenever you saw him. He snarled and stared at you with a gaze that could kill. Duren and Ekna said that you shouldn't worry about him that much, since it was Bataar who took you in, and he didn't question his choices that much.
Still, you tried your best to stay out of that panther's way.
Bataar, on the other hand, was so much different. He had a lot to do during the day, but he took time to check up on you, making sure that everyone treated you right and such. Every night, he escorted you back to the hut, asking you about your day. It warmed your heart and you felt nothing but gratitude towards him.
But it made you wonder.
"How can it be that Bataar doesn't have a mate?", you asked one day while you sat down with Ekna and Duren to wash some clothes.
"What do you mean?" The cheetah perked up her ears curiously as she asked.
"He is so nice and always ready to help everyone. And he is the chieftain! Why is he leaving alone?"
"Well", Duren sighed, "It wasn't like that all the time. He had a mate, her name was Yagan."
"She was strong and kind, and they had many cubs!", Ekna added with a sour smile.
"But she died a few years ago, and ever since, Bataar hasn't had anyone in his bed."
It made sense. You remain silent for a while. Poor Bataar. You only knew him for a week now, but you already had a feeling that you wanted him to be happy. He truly cared about his tribe and wanted the best for everyone.
Once you finished the clothes and parted ways with the females, you realized that this was the first time that there wasn't any kind of task left for you. There was still plenty of food for yourself and Bataar, you already fed the chickens and cleaned up the house in the morning, and now that you were done with the washing too, there was nothing left to do.
You took a deep breath from the warm afternoon. For all your life, you were a servant, and while you did a very similar job here too, it was still different. They didn't make you stay, you were not the Maeko's or Bataar's possession.
You were more or less free, and it was still a lot to take in.
So after a little walk around the hut, you decided to find Bataar and ask him if you could help him in any way.
In the morning he always took a long walk around the village, just inspecting everyone and everything. After that, he spent his time with his warriors and hunters, making plans for their next move. The Maekos were hunters and adventurers, always seeking something new, for trading all kinds of goods, but also, just for the thrill of it. And you liked that - it was so different from your past life, it offered something fresh, something new.
But for the afternoon, it was hard to predict where to find him. Sometimes he went out for a quick hunt or trained with his warriors, but you often found him having a nap in the shade of a tree.
So you just paced around in the village. After a while, the Maeko got used to your presence, and there were no side eyes toward you. Although, you weren't the first human in the village. Ekna and Duran already told you that there were many times that tribe took in humans. In the past, there were human slaves around the village at all times, but the tradition of slaves faded away for good for a while now. It was never forbidden for humans to join the Maeko if they were worthy. And you also learned that some of the catfolks got a bit too excited about their new human neighbors, so much so that from neighbors they quickly became mates.
You still didn't know how to feel about that.
"How is it feel like to be the chieftain's little fucktoy, human?"
You almost jumped as you heard a raspy voice from behind. You turned back with a little yelp immediately, and your blood went cold.
There was Jargal, leaning against a tree, polishing his knife with a cloth, with a glare on his face. He was taller than you, and as he only wore a leather vest on his upper body, you could see the muscles under his fur, and it didn't make him less scary. You were in such a panic that for a while you didn't even realize what he just said.
"His what?" you muttered with confusion, and the beast laughed.
"Don't pretend like you have no clue what am I talking about." He put the knife back onto his belt with a huff and closed the distance between you. You wanted to back away, but your back hit a wall. He squeezed you between the wall of a hut and his bulky, muscular body.
"I thought after losing Yagan he would never pick anyone else, but he couldn't resist your soft little body, right?" he growled, with a smile that made you shiver. "You trembling like a bunny, huh? He should take better care of his belongings. Leaving you alone like that? What if somebody would steal you away? His little doll?"
You just couldn't handle it anymore. Not the way he was looking at you, how he talked about Bataar, and especially how he leaned even closer to you. He was threatening, yeah, and you were more than terrified of him and what he could do to you, sure. But you just couldn't take it anymore.
"I am nobody's possession and if you don't back away right now..."
"Nobody's possession?" he asked, not even acknowledging the fact you were trying to threaten him with something. "You telling me that it's been a week and he still hasn't claimed you?" he laughed viciously.
"Claim me?"
He really thought all along that you and Bataar were sleeping together...? Why would he...?
"You really are dumb, aren't you?", he leaned even closer, now his fangs were just inched away from your face as he grinned. "But that's okay. So you are nobody's possession, huh? It won't be long before someone would sweep you away and..."
"Jargal!"
A crispy voice made the both of you flinch, and you turned your head to the owner of it. An older, female catfolk appeared from the other side of the hut.
"Don't bother the human, at least not next to my house, you moron."
The panther grunted with annoyance but then stepped back with a cocky smile.
"Looks like you got lucky today. We'll see how long he can keep you by his side."
"Come on, don't you have anything better to do than being a menace?" the hag growled again, waving with the wooden spoon in her hands as she came closer. "If you keep that up I will ask Bataar to send you away for herbs you will never find."
Jargal just growled and with a final, intimidating look at you, he walked away with a puff. You turned to the old female, trying to say thank you, but as soon as you smiled at her, she bashed at you too. "And why are you still trembling like a reed in the wind? Do you want him to come back? Now come inside, you should eat some soup before you faint on me or something."
She didn't even wait for your answer, just turned her back on you and slowly shuffled back to the hut. She really seemed old now that the threat disappeared, you almost heard her bones rattling as she took off.
Her name was Altan. She talked a lot, mostly to herself. How the young ones annoyed everyone around the village, especially Jargal, how Bataar should finally get rid of him, and how Yagan would have never let anyone be so disrespectful to Bataar. She rambled about how the tribe has changed since she was a child and you found yourself smiling at the whole scene. The old ones are the same in every species, as it seems, right?
Someone knocked on the door, and as you both turned in its direction, you saw a familiar face.
"Ah, there you are", said Bataar with a smile as he came in. "You're not bothering Altan, are you?"
You tried to answer, but Altan cut you off.
"Nah, other than nearly pissing herself in front of my hut, nah", she waved it off as she was preparing some kind of ointment in a dish. Bataar looked at you with confusion.
"What?"
"You should be more careful, Bataar", said Altan more seriously this time. "Jargal is getting out of hand."
His curious gaze quickly turned into worry as he took a few steps closer to you.
"Did he hurt you?!"
You shook your head. "No, don't worry about me. He disappeared when Altan scolded him."
Bataar growled quietly, his white brow spots furrowed as he looked out the window of the hut.
"I will have a word with him."
"Oh yes, because words will help you keep Jargal away from your new little pet, of course."
You both stared at Altan for long seconds.
And after that, there wasn't really a conversation. Bataar walked you back to the hut, quietly, and you weren't sure what kind of silence it was.
It wasn't awkward.
Maybe a little bit, but you didn't feel embarrassed or ashamed. You slowly glanced up at him, wondering what could be on his mind. You wanted to ask, but... You still felt like a stranger next to him sometimes. You didn't blame yourself for that, since it was only a week ago when he saved you.
But still.
When you reached the hut, you opened the door but then stopped. Bataar looked at you, and as you glanced up at him, you felt a tug on your heart.
"I..." You opened your mouth to say something, but you closed it quickly. You weren't sure what to say, but you desperately wanted to tell him something.
"I think you should rest now." Bataar cut you off from that. You weren't sure, but... He looked just as confused as you.
"You might be right." You nodded, looking away sheepishly.
"We'll go out hunting, so don't wait for me tonight."
You looked up, a bit surprised. You didn't know you would be alone tonight. Maybe your face said too much though, because Bataar smiled, and patted your head lightly.
"Don't worry. We'll see each other tomorrow."

Chapter Two: Bonfire
Summary: The beast brought you to his village, but little did you know that there’s a much scarier creature out there in the shadows. Warnings: None. Word count: 1795
You didn't know how much it took to get to the village, you assumed they walked an hour or two. It gave you time to think, once you stopped trying to escape. You tried to memorize the route they took, but you quickly realized it was just wasting time. The trees, the shrubs and the rocks looked all the same, and as you went deeper and deeper into the forest, you completely lost hope. The one who carried you split out from the group and headed in a different direction. You looked around, trying to get any idea what will happen next, but everything was so unfamiliar and different. He then stopped for a moment before entering what seemed to be a hut. Inside, there was a smell that you couldn't describe. It was something strong and musky, something that easily overwhelmed your senses. He also smelled like that, faintly, besides earth and blood. The hut itself looked simple, but based on the ones you saw outside, this was a bigger one. You were trembling from fear at this point. He grunted, but he manhandled you like it was nothing, dropping you onto something softer than you expected. You were sitting on the ground in a corner that was covered with furs. He looked down at you with those wild, yellow eyes as you jumped back to the stony wall of the hut. This is it, you thought. Now he will consume you, tear your flesh apart, lick the meat off from your bones, drink your blood, as beasts do... But the tiger did no such thing. He leaned down maintaining eye contact. And he said something. Your mind was so numb from the past hours of constant fear, it took you a few seconds to realize that you understood what he said. "You stay here." You stared at him blankly, and something shifted in his expression, it was hard to tell since he had a face of an animal more like a man's. You couldn't stare at him for too long, you had to look at the ground. He grunted again. "Understood?", he asked, less patient this time. You nodded quickly, and with that, he stood up and left you alone in the hut. It didn't make you less scared, but at least now you got a chance to think. You took a few deep breaths as your blood flew back to your legs. They left you alive, for now. Good. It didn't mean that they will keep you alive as well, but they didn't rush to eat you. You were in a hut, and you assumed it was in the middle of the village. That was not good, it made your possible escape more difficult. You seemed to be alone in the hut, the beasts were outside, roaring, singing, with drums and music... They were celebrating? It was hard to tell. You looked around in the hut, as much as you could in the dark. Only the torches outside shined a little light into the dim house. There was a fireplace in the middle of the hut, tho it was cold now. No surprise in that, during the summer it was still warm outside at night, especially with fur like the tigers had. You stood up, hoping to find a knife, a bow, or anything you could use as a weapon. Not that you would know how to use it. You never had to fight after all. You did find a broom, but you put it down after a few seconds. You saw them. You saw their canines, you saw their claws. You also saw that all of them had knives on their belts, and they obviously knew how to fight and hunt. There was no point, and it could have been even comical at another time, but now you were too scared to laugh about anything. You didn't know how much time you have before someone will come back to the hut. Minutes? Hours? You didn't know what would be their plan with you. Why did he bring you here? If he wanted to eat you, he could have just dropped you in a cage or a pit, as they do with live animals sometimes. Now that you were putting more thought into it, he didn't even hurt you at all. Sure, he looked scary and inhuman, and he carried you like a bag of potatoes, but no matter how hard you kicked him at the beginning of your journey to the village, he never hit you. Sure, you couldn't really do that much damage on him, but still. That didn't mean you weren't planning an escape still. It was just a matter of time that someone would return to you, and you didn't want to waste more time. You decided to move. Reaching for the door, you slowly opened it, peeking outside to the village. Everyone seemed to head to the center of the village, where a huge fire was burning. They danced and sang, it really did look like some kind of celebration. A shiver ran through your spine. You were not a sacrifice, right? You sure didn't want to find that out on your own. Gathering all of your courage, you left the hut and ran behind the next one. It seemed like most of the village was around the fire as they celebrated, the loud noises and the commotion seemed like a good opportunity to get out of this place. There were no gates and walls around the village, at least not that you saw. While the dark woods bordering it made your heart clench with fear, you couldn't stand the thought of just waiting inside the hut until they came back and do whatever they plan to do with you. You ran, hut after hut, slowly but surely getting closer to the edge of the village. It seemed like you were undetected - and that gave you some sense of safety. A fake one, as you found out very soon. You looked back, checking if anyone followed you, and with a small shriek, you bumped into something. Someone. The person growled, and before you could turn your head back, a strong hand gripped your arm. Your heart stopped for a moment before it started pounding insanely fast. The creature was pitch black, his yellow eyes shifted with rage in the dark. It was not a tiger - it was a panther. A black panther. You didn't know how, but as he looked down at you, a different kind of fear rushed to your veins. He was way more intimidating than the tiger. He growled at you again, you screamed back at him with fear, and no matter how hard you thrashed, he dragged you away from the hut - in the direction of the celebration. Tears ran down your cheeks as the realization came down to you. You were spotted, and your luck has finally left you. He dragged you to the fire, and as he did, confused eyes stared at you as you screamed and tried to escape his strong grip. The villagers - tigers, of course - gathered around you, from a safe distance. You looked around with fear in your eyes. They seemed all the same, red fur with black stripes, white on the front. The only difference was their clothes, some of them seemed more masculine or feminine in a way. The panther growled again as he stood next to the fire, it was a loud growl, but there was something different about it. A language you never heard before. A more familiar face appeared - the one who brought you here. He was taller and bulkier than the panther, now that they almost stood next to each other, you also noticed that somehow he seemed older too. His fur was thicker, and now his gaze was wilder than ever. He growled at the panther, almost like he was threatening him. It seemed like some kind of argument, but with the panther tossing you a few times, you couldn't even have a chance to make anything out of it. Just as you felt that your heart couldn’t bear it anymore, the panther released you and tossed you to the ground. It felt colder now as you were next to the flames. Just as you catch your breath, you felt another grip on your arm. This one was strong too, but different, you didn't feel like he was crashing your bones. It was the tiger. He seemed annoyed as he showed his teeth, but he didn't look as threatening as the panther who just left the scene visibly fuming. The tiger led you back to the hut as the celebration got a bit quiet behind you. He shut the door and released your arm. You fell to the ground, and quickly crawled back to the rugs he placed you down before, and looked up at him with fear. He growled as he came frighteningly close. "Told you to stay here, why didn't you?!", he snarled. You gulped and shut your eyes, too scared to witness whatever he was planning to do with you. "I heard your voice before, I know you are not mute. So answer me!", he said, only a bit calmer this time. You looked up at him again, trying to find the words. "Why did you bring me here?", you muttered, trying to hold back your tears, but you failed with that too. He sighed, then slowly squatted down. "It looked like your kind tried to hunt you down." You looked down, and after a few moments, you nodded. "I figured you couldn't stay there. So I brought you here. I mean you no harm if you behave." You didn't dare to look back at him. If you behave? "You can stay here, and the Maeko will feed you and protect you. In return, you will help around the village." "The Maeko?" you peeked at him slowly, and he made a small nod. "Our tribe." "How do you speak our language?" "Somewhere in the past, our ancestors made peace and traded goods and slaves for decades. Until some of your kind decided to turn on us. Some of you are not too bad, and we stayed on good terms." You hummed but didn't know what to say. You heard about the catfolk before, of course. You never saw them though, as you never really left the mansion. From the tales you heard, they sounded like some mysterious, rare beasts with their own rules and morals, some monsters that humans should fear. He didn't seem too bad now. "What's your name?" You answered him, and he nodded. "I'm Bataar. Welcome to your new home."

Chapter One: The Hunt
Summary: You are the servant of a wealthy family, life is simple and not too bad, but as the lord of the mansion dies, your peaceful days fade away with him too. But as the new lord hunts you down, a real predator appears, and you tremble with fear, not knowing if you live another day. Warnings: Nothing too bad, a little violence, mentions of incest (not regarding the reader), a tiny bit angst if you squint Word count: 1506
It was a nice day. The sky was clear, and the air was warm but light, thanks to the faint breeze that brushed through the tree tops from time to time. It seemed like a quiet day too, the lord of the house was still asleep, and there was no forthcoming occasion or event that needed preparations. But no one knew it was also that day. The day when everything changed. Being a servant was not as bad as it seemed. At least, not for you. You came from a family of beggars, and at a very young age, they sold you to the slave market in the hopes of a few weeks' food. However it turned out, your life changed drastically when you were just six. If you wanted to be honest, you didn't remember much before that. You were mostly neglected, and being at the market only changed your life positively. Well, for the most part. You got a roof above your head, you got food and the masters took better care of you than your parents did. And at that age, you didn't really think about what would happen if someone buys you. You were lucky, you knew that. A woman bought you a year later, and she took you in as a servant. She lived in a mansion, as the wife of a man with great fortune. They had a son and two daughters at the time, in a village, not too far away from the capital, where you were born. They provided a job for most of the village, as they had big fields and a lot of animals to take care of. You became a maid for the lady of the mansion. You helped prepare food, washed clothes, dressed the lady herself, and took care of the children when you became older. It was peaceful, for the most part. The lady was measured, but nice, always addressing every maid with a quiet, low voice. She wasn't too picky about her food, and she was easy to forgive you if you made a mistake. The lord of the mansion was firm, sometimes even cold, but reasonable. He always made clear what he expected. He didn't hesitate to punish anyone who made a mistake, but he wasn't a brute, and it was relatively easy to get back on his good side. He touched you a few times though. It wasn't just you, and it wasn't that serious, he mostly did it when he was drunk and the wife was not around. He didn't do anything else, and it was easy to distract his attention at those time, so you didn't pay much attention to it, especially after hearing what the other, older maids experienced with different owners. He was much more interested in his wife. He seemed to love her, he always talked to her with a different tone, and there was a sparkle in his eyes. She seemed to love him too, in her own, distant way, but she carried herself like that all the time. Sometimes you heard them during the night. It was strange to think about it. They had a great passion for each other, they owned each other, but differently as they owned you. There was love, care, and desire in their ownership of each other. But you - if it will ever happen to you that someone will claim you as theirs, it would be only for possession, and not passion. You made peace with that, well, at least you tried to tell yourself that. Life was not too tough until you turned nineteen. The lady bore more children to the lord, they shared their family with two sons and four daughters. But about a few months ago, the lord of the mansion fell ill, and it quickly turned out that there was no cure for the disease. He got weaker and weaker, until, one day he died. The mansion should have been inherited by his eldest son. But he was a cold-blooded brute. His father tried to leash him, as much as he could, but with his death, to everyone's dismay, he was set free and the tyranny began. His mother and his brother tried their best to stop him, but he chased them away. Three of his sisters also fled, and the fourth only stayed because he forced her to marry him. Life became harder after that. The new lord raped his way through the maids, and although you seemed to be very lucky, you couldn't avoid your fate either. That quiet day turned into something horrific really fast. The lord of the mansion didn't like these peaceful days after all. He woke up and decided to raise some hell. You should have known better. You should have sensed the tension in the air when you entered the dining area that afternoon. You just wanted to offer your services to the head of the maids, since you completed all of your tasks. "Ah, look at that! A lovely volunteer!", laughed your lord as you stumbled into the doorway. You bowed your head quickly as you took a few steps closer. You knew it, you already knew that it was the end of your luck. But you would have never guessed the horrors that sealed your fate. The sun almost disappeared between the treelines now, and the air was full of tension and fear, just like your body as you ran across the fields. It was cruel, it was sick, but there was nothing you could do about it - other than run for your life. You knew he liked hunting more than anything - it was obvious from the trophies that hung from the walls all over the mansion. But instead of the deer, bear, or wolf that often looked back at you as you cleaned the floors in those rooms, there was a different kind of prey this time. You were no beast or game, but he treated you as such. As you reached the forest, you heard the arrows hitting the trees near you, and you were almost sure that he was just playing with you. Your lungs burned and you couldn't feel your legs anymore, but you kept running. The fear that spread across your body didn't let you stop for a second. You heard him laugh at you, he even shouted something to the men that were also preying on you, they were a cruel, cruel wolf pack following you. You reached a creek in the forest, you felt the cold water on your bare feet as you crossed it, but you didn't care. The shrubs and twigs tugged on your dress but you didn't care. You wanted to stay alive, that was the only thing you could think about right now. They got closer and closer, but you didn't dare to look back. You were scared to see how close they exactly are. There was nothing you could do, desperation filled your mind as you closed your eyes to whisper one last prayer... Something shifted next to you, and a loud roar shook your whole body. You tried to look back as you heard painful cries behind you, just to see what kind of faith awaits you, but just as you saw a flash of something big and rusty red, you felt a sharp pain in your foot. You tripped on something hard, probably on a rock, and you hit the ground. Catching your breath, you rose to your knees, but just as you did, you felt a presence next to you. You slowly looked up and a scream stuck inside your lungs. The creature was tall and broad, bigger than any human you have ever met. But he wasn't human - at all. A tiger of some kind, with the body of a man, orangy-red and black stripes twirling in his fur. He looked down on you with narrow, wild yellow eyes that stopped your heart for a moment. You heard faint cries from the trees behind you, and you felt your whole body shiver. He reached down and you flinched back, but he effortlessly grabbed your arm and made you stand up. Your legs were shaking, not just from the horrific encounter, but from exhaustion too. You were sure if he would let you go now, you would collapse. He did the opposite. The tiger grabbed you by your side, and the floor suddenly flipped under your feet. He threw you over his muscular shoulder without any hesitation and started walking - far, far away from the mansion, not stopping even when you kicked and screamed. Others followed you too. Creatures of his kind - tigers with spears and bows, looking at you like you were some kind of strange animal, thrashing on their leader's shoulder. He was probably their leader, you thought at least. The night fell upon you and your screams slowly turned into crying as you were dragged deeper and deeper into the forest.

Notes: Well, here we are! I'm working on this for a while now, and I hope you will like it! For the record, I didn't even know what kind of media is out there with these kind of 'monsters', I just had a vision of these guys lol. I first intended to write them as 'werecats', but since they don't have a human form or they can't transform into anything else, I did a little research and found the term 'catfolk', so that's it.
A little info about the catfolk: they are humanoid, catlike creatures. They live in tribes, mostly based on their species (tigers, lions, jaguars, any kind of big cat tbh), but sometimes they marry outside of their tribes too, so it varies. Our tribe, the Maekos are mostly tigers. They have their own language, but sometimes they learn the language of the other nations near them, the Maekos can communicate with humans, but they avoid them as much they can.
