A reminder to pagan tumblr:

You do not need to be like your deities to worship them.

You don’t have to be wise to worship Athena. You don’t need to be a traveller or thief to worship Hermes. You certainly aren’t required to be a hunter to worship Artemis. This applies to all deities. There is no requirement to share such-and-such number of traits with a deity in order to worship or work with them.

Because someone reminded me of this earlier, and it is something even I struggle with.

Lets get something fucking straight. You don’t have to have big rituals everyday to work hard at your religion. You don’t have to have shrines or altars to work hard at your religion. That shit is extra. It’s the icing on the cake. As long as you are giving effort and trying, then my fucking original post about lazy pagans? Doesn’t apply to you. 

When I say lazy pagans? I mean pagans who have the means to do something for their deities, but are too selfish to do it. The pagans who like to post pictures and talk like they’re big, but can’t be bothered to even share a coffee with a deity. Pagans who complain about their religious life being shit (for the above reasons), but don’t do anything about it to fix it. Pagans who make excuses for their behaviour and continue to do it anyway. Pagans who look at other people to fix their problem, or to reassure them “No! You being lazy? Nonsense!” so they continue to Not Do Anything about their behaviour.

I get being poor. I was homeless at one point, so no, really, I know. Sharing a glass of water with a deity, giving them a flower you picked outside, whatever, is effort. I’m not telling you to buy luxorious gifts for deities, I’m saying to put some goddamn effort in. And if you’re best is getting up at 1 pm instead of 2, and saying a hymn to your deity or telling them you love them? If it’s reading a page out of some mythology book? That’s fine, that is still effort.

What isn’t effort is “I’m going to go on tumblr and cry about how my deity didn’t do this thing for me, so I’m not going to give him offering, but WAIT, does that make me a bad worshiper? Tell me I’m not a bad worshiper even though i have the means to do something about this!”

Being mentally ill has nothing to do with being lazy. Being lazy has everything to do with being lazy. I know many people who are mentally ill, myself included, and we still work hard for our religious life- and we have bad days too. But as long as we try? Then it’s putting in effort.

I work six days a week for 10 hours each and get exactly one day off and it makes it very hard to keep up with my craft 

I appreciate the paycheck that I’ll be getting but fuck it makes keeping with you know

actual hell because I barely have the energy to take a shower and wash my clothes let alone set aside time for my Potentate and do things for nem

I know ne understands, ne values survival over practice, and this job means survival. 

But it fucking eats me up that I can barely do anything to lay out anything between us.

Taking the dirt from someone’s grave who haven’t cleared it with in life isn’t something you should do. 

Collecting graveyard dirt is something that’s massively disrespectful and even if you intend on communing with the spirit and leaving them an offering just, just don’t.

Not only this it can land you in massive legal trouble because if someone catches you that’s your ass. It’s a crime and you could also get in trouble for graverobbing.

Does anyone have any links to things talking about types of veils? I'm doing some research and I just want to be sure that I have as much information as possible before choosing to wear one Namely I don't want to appropriate a covering for my practice that's not for people like me (a white person)
