Leopard Union Complex Scorpio Season feat. Morgan & ASA Süßes Gift
Roan & Dapple Ranch was excited to be a part of the very first Leopard Union Complex's showcase: Scorpio Season! ASA Süßes Gift is a competition go-to for us because of her striking appearance, her need to please, and her attention to her job while in the ring and out of it. And one of the riders who loves to show her off the best is our very own Morgan. Being an evening show, this wasn't anything new for Morgan, though Sicarelle had a different idea. Luckily though she spooked a few times, Morgan was there as an emotional rock for our Araloosa mare. Morgan's confidence in herself and Sicarelle must have shined brighter than the lights of the arena as they competed, dazzled, and impressed the crowd, photographers, and judges.

I Am Your Father feat. Ryleigh, Faith, WWF Stray Garnet & WWF Stray Spotlight Roan & Dapple Ranch has never really been known to cooperate with other stables - not because we're not fans of the idea of collaboration or co-owning, but simply because the thought never occurred to us. Well, when Willoway Farms approached with a breeding opportunity, how could we possibly refuse? WWF Stray Garnet was our very first Willoway Farms horse who has given us amazing success in competitions and companionship at the ranch, so we knew that breeding Arden with another Appaloosa Sporthorse would be a fantastic outcome. And sure enough, we were right. WWF Stray Spotlight - who we have been lovingly referring to as Superbaby as her name - is showing already massive potential in movement and scope in just her early years. We at Roan & Dapple Ranch are so excited to combine training efforts and push this little cutie to her fullest potential.

Hunter Jumper Association Halloween Weekend feat. Ryleigh & CM Kalimer's Echo
A little more rare to see, we have our owner Ryleigh competing this time around. For the close friends of the ranch, you will know that Ryleigh is a western girlie through and through who prefers to stay on the ground. But with her sister-in-law Morgan and cousin Sadie bugging her to get over her fear of heights, Ryleigh put on her big girl breeches and took to the jumping course with CM Kalimer's Echo. Even though it was a little rough to get through for Ryleigh, she was safe enough with Kalimero and knew that he was safe enough to keep her on his back. Sure enough, the two finished the course and even though a prize was not awarded to these two other than a participation acknowledgement, it was just another moment where Ryleigh and Kalimero got to stretch their competing legs and get a little more experience under their belts - or girths.

Hunter Jumper Association Halloween Weekend feat. Morgan & ASA Monarch Heir
Another day, another Morgan showcase of why she's one of the most valuable members of our team. This time, we were lucky to be in the crisp and cool Autumn air with sun streaming down on our backs. With us was our brand new Appaloosa Sport Horse: ASA Monarch Heir - or Monarch, for short around the barn. Like with our other Azure Stables horse, Monarch was nothing short of calm and collected in the ring. Amongst all the hype and excitement the competition had to offer, Monarch and Morgan were in motion with one another while they leapt through the course and stood for pictures during inspection. Coming out the other end with 6th place in hand, and a good amount of experience, this duo really came out on top.

Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg Six feat. Morgan & R&DR So Nice Ya Looked Twice
With the last of the rain coming down and the energy still as strong as the earlier morning, Morgan and Sterling weren't deterred from the course ahead. Sterling, still young and inexperienced but with all the confidence a stallion can have, held his own quite well under Morgan's firm hand. Although the two clashed throughout the competition while striding forward through the harsh weather conditions, they managed to finish in one piece. Despite the two not being a match made in soppy heaven, Morgan and Sterling were still fierce competitors who gave the other riders a run for their money.

Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg Six feat. Jill & ASA Süßes Gift
The rain continues this morning on the track, but it's hardly anything for Jill and Sicarelle to bat an eye at. Although the weather was determined to slow these two down, we were so pleased to see their defiant denial to the elements. Sicarelle, scopey as ever, was not allowing for the rain to cloud her eyes where she needed to go, bringing Jill along for the ride. Sicarelle didn't hesitate to advance toward all of the obstacles set before her, allowing for a quick paced ride for Jill on top, though there was need for some steady hands on the Araloosa otherwise she might have had too much energy too soon in the course. At the end of it all, these two finished in a good time and Sicarelle was left feeling like she breezed through it all far too quickly and wanted a round two, but Jill was wiped and lead the crossbred mare over to the tent to cool off and dry down.

Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg Six feat. Sadie & WWF Stray Garnet
What's better than a fresh, crisp autumn morning on the cross country track? A fresh, crisp autumn morning on the cross country track in the rain. When we arrived to the track and saw it was raining, the first thought we had was, is this going to be safe? Unlike humans, though, horses don't seem to give two tail flicks of a fuss about this sort of thing. While the other horses were stomping the ground in anticipation to compete, Arden stood there calmly, looking to Sadie to see what she had to say about it. Sadie, naturally daring - as if you couldn't tell by the red hair - didn't mind a little rain. And so, onto Arden she climbed and off the two went. One of the things we love about Arden is that when we tell him it's time to work, he works hard. He's not afraid to get dirty, wet, sweaty, or a little bruised and neither is Sadie, which is why these two work so well together. Despite a few slips and slides in the mud, no one got hurt and everyone got to the finish line in a good amount of time.

Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg Five feat. R&DR Romantisch Aussehendes Glas and Jill
Last but certainly not least impressive to have his go at the cross country track (generously provided for the public by CK | True North Equestrian) for the Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg 5, Jill riding R&DR Romantisch Aussehendes Glas, or has he's lovingly known as, Pewter. Jill specializes in horses that have too much 'go' and not enough 'woah', which is why we love these two together. At the very start of the track, Pewtie's feet were lifting off of the ground out of anticipation for getting going, and when Jill let his reins go loose, he was off like a bullet leaves a gun. Jill knew just when to pull back and direct this enthusiastic boy, especially in the water when he needed to settle and watch his step in the water a little better. But when they were getting to the end of the course, Jill let him completely loose and the speed went from 50 to 100 in what seemed like milliseconds, letting the hotblood shine through and finish the race with overwhelming success.

Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg Five feat. BSH Freckle Foot Shindig and Morgan
After a first successful round on the cross country track (generously provided for the public by CK | True North Equestrian) for the Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg 5, we were excited to see Morgan riding BSH Freckle Foot Shindig, otherwise known as Stevie around the barn. With Morgan being an experienced and successful cross country rider, we knew for sure she would be able to help Stevie along the way, as this was Stevie's second time competing. Well we were a little wary when Stevie spooked at the sight of a rogue bunny right before the timer was about to begin, but Morgan didn't let it phase her or give in to Stevie's panic episode. When the timer went off, she applied leg and off Stevie went. As the course went on, Stevie seemed to be more sure of her footing and had a new puff in her chest while she continued through. By the end, Morgan was practically holding on for dear life as Stevie got her second wind and seemed to be looking forward to what was around the corner. We're so proud of Stevie for coming out of her shell, and once again to Morgan for being the constantly calm companion of our more dodgey horses.

Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg Five feat. R&DR Elfenbeinschloss and Sadie
At about 6 A.M. in the morning with the sun streaming just over the hills, the heavy foliage of the cross country track (generously provided for the public by CK | True North Equestrian) was open to the first beginning participants of the Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg 5. Two of those participants being our very own Sadie Harken riding R&DR Elfenbeinschloss, or Castle as we lovingly refer to her as at the barn. Castle, being the oldest of our Anglo-Arabians, has not been in a competition until now. We didn't know if she'd be suited for the circuit or not, so this was the chance to see her shine. Luckily for us, she not only shined - she shimmered! Castle was as natural to the course as a dolphin is to the sea. She passed over obstacles, didn't blink at the sight of water, and don't even get us started on the flying lead changes. Overall, we couldn't have been more pleased with her willingness to sweep through the course without hesitation. Both Sadie and Castle were pretty proud of the way they competed, as are the rest of the R&DR team.

Autumn Dartny Equestrian Equestrian Tournament feat. a lot of our horses and riders
The Dartny Equestrian Tournament was a blast! We were so pleased to take part of it as a team. Now that the cold weather is finally getting here and we can exercise the horses without feeling like we're about to cook under the sun and ride around with just as pooped out ponies, everyone's feeling more refreshed. The horses are feeling a lot more fresh and excited to be in a new place, so there was a lot of energy - which we were not complaining about at all, of course. These are just a few of the snippets of our best moments with each rider and their fabulous hooved companions. 1st picture: R&DR Catch 'em Enchanted ridden by Ryleigh Knox; bred by Roan & Dapple Ranch, 2nd picture: WWF Stray Garnet ridden by Jill Gilmore; bred by Willoway Farms, 3rd picture: R&DR Finest of the Bold ridden by Sadie Harken; bred by Roan & Dapple Ranch, 4th picture: R&DR Rebel Heart Ferrari ridden by Morgan Deacon-Belle; bred by Roan & Dapple Ranch, 5th picture: BSH Freckle Foot Shindig ridden by Ryleigh Knox; bred by Beehill Sporthorses, 6th picture: ASA Süßes Gift ridden by Sadie Harken; bred by Azure Stables, 7th picture: R&DR Romantisch Aussehendes Glas ridden by Morgan Deacon-Belle; bred by Roan & Dapple Ranch, 8th picture: PЯ Elfenbeinhitze ridden by Levi Knighte; bred by Paleo Reins.

Shoreline Showdown feat. R&DR Euphoric Darling and Sadie
Lastly, Sadie and Stella took to the sands to show off their moves and bond. Stella, being as stubborn and picky as she is, was exceptionally good. Maybe it was the change of scenery that did it or she was just gracing us with the presence of the angel we know is deep down inside of her, but Stella put on an amazing performance for the whole weekend. Of course bribery was involved with getting her to act as well as she did on certain days, but it was a small price to pay for the work she put in to really showing off and enjoying herself - even if it was just a little bit. Stella didn't want us to catch that she was secretly enjoying herself, especially on the last day, when she was lounging in the water with Sadie, so we played coy and acted like Stella was just being on her best behaviour and was rewarded with a good massage and plenty of treats. She even got some of the expensive hay on the trailer ride back.

Shoreline Showdown feat. R&DR Romantisch Aussehendes Glas and Jill
Jill and Sadie participated in the Shoreline Showdown and had an absolute blast. What a treat, leaving behind the unpredictable weather of the countryside for the vibrant colours and sunny rays of the tropics.
First up was Jill and Pewter. This boy did absolutely amazing. He was attentive and sure footed with his movements and listening to Jill the whole time. The event brought these two closer together, which bodes well for us as a ranch, as we know who he is bonding with the best and will be able to be his "go-to" human, and it's definitely Jill. Different from our warm blooded horses, this hot boy was interested in what was going on next and so excited to do so. Along with being eager to please, Pewter was very curious about things going on around him - especially when he got to the water. Water is a very touch and go subject for a lot of horses, but Pewtie just took it in stride and treated it like any other new thing: guide him there with his human that he trusts and he's more than willing to check it out and learn it's nothing to spook over. Overall, this was an amazing experience for the two.

Out Of the Comfort Zone feat. R&DR Romantisch Aussehendes Glas and Morgan, R&DR Elfenebeinschloss and Ryleigh Today was a... complicated day, shall we say. Ryleigh and Morgan, sister-in-laws, took the newest additions to the barn, Pewtie and Castle, out on the cross country course. More like, Morgan forced Ryleigh on Castle and said they were going whether she wanted to or not. Ryleigh is not an English rider; she's a western girlie through and through. But Morgan was adamant on showing her sister-in-law the ropes of one of the funnest parts of English riding, in her opinion. Pewtie was more than pleased that he got to go over the jumps and show how it was done like a pro, and Castle was pleased to be going over the small jumps though they could all tell her heart longed for the bigger jumps. Castle was getting a little fussy not being able to go over more jumps like Pewtie was allowed to, but it was a good introduction for Ryleigh into the XC circuit.

We Are the Champions, My Friends feat. PЯ Bullet Show Diamond and Ryleigh The judging is in and it was determined that PЯ Bullet Show Diamond was officially deemed as the first place champion of the Open and Conformation category at the RRHA 2024 Reining Futurity competition. Not only does this make PЯ Bullet Show Diamond, aka Beau, a champion which will add to his resume of already being an impressive stock horse, but this win makes Roan & Dapple Ranch champions as well. As much as we are proud of our riders for their hard work, we owe it all to our amazing horses who show up willing to listen and work with us. Beau was so good for his pictures, looking so handsome. A little bit more and more like his father, Paleo Rein's PЯ Diamond Label, as he gets older and shows more confidence. However, he is still very confused about why his human mom and human dad put their mouths together like that when they're happy.
