First Snow of the Season feat. Levi & PЯ Starlit Cat
While the riders are competing in competitions in other parts of Chestnut Ridge or other countries, there is one person who stays grounded at the ranch and does the every day duties to keep our horses and other employees safe, happy, and healthy: Levi, the other owner of Roan & Dapple Ranch; Cowboy to the bones. This working season is especially exciting, as we were lucky enough to be considered for and given the opportunity to lease PЯ Starlit Cat from Paleo Reins. Lynx, the beautiful boy who is being worked today, didn't seem to be prepared at all to be working in the snow. It took a couple of minutes to coax him out of the shelter while he inspected the cold white dust that kept falling onto his nose which was poking out from the shelter. Eventually he was brave enough and the snow melted off of him when he was working and sweating, so it was worth the little wait to get him ready and going. We're sincerely hoping, especially after today, when our 3-month lease ends with him we will be considered for a permanent home for Lynx to stay. Already we can tell what a special boy he is - even Levi said he's one of his favourites already.

Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg 7 feat. Sadie & R&DR Elfenbeinschloss; Morgan & BSH Freckle Foot Shindig; Jill & ASA Süßes Gift
We're nearing the end of the Eventing Breeders Association yearly eventing run, but we have been determined to catch up to some of the more advanced horses in the club while we still have the chance. This time, during Leg 7, we brought back some of our best competitors to take home more glory. Returning are Sadie Harken riding Castle (our grey Anglo-Arabian mare), Morgan Deacon-Bell riding Stevie (our dark bay Anglo-Arabian mare), and Jill Gilmore riding Sicarelle (our chestnut appaloosa Araloosa mare). All of our riders and our horses did their best and competed fabulously, as that is nothing short of Roan & Dapple Ranch standard. Once again, we're so blown away by the talent, drive, and love that this team - both human and horse - have for one another and the sport. Soon it will be 2025, and that will bring a whole new set of challenges and hurdles to our ranch, but we'll be tackling it the same as we always do.

Darnty Equestrian Tournament Christmas Competition feat. Morgan & BSH Grandiosity and R&DR Romantisch Aussehendes Glas
Up next in the 2'6 Hunter course was our champion rider Morgan on another new stallion ours, BSH Grandiosity, who we have been calling Grand for the time being until his name comes to us. Simply put: Grand has some growing to do still. As he is a new horse to the field of jumping and overall performing, he's still got some stuff to learn on how to listen to his rider and react in better timing to things happening around him. Luckily he wasn't spooky or anything like that, which wouldn't have been a problem for Morgan anyway. The two still finished, and Morgan immediately figured out what would be the best training plan to put in place for him when we all got back home. And last but definitely not least, in the 3' Hunter was Morgan with top performer R&DR Romantisch Aussehendes Glas who we call Pewter. We pulled out the big guns for the end of the competition and did they ever deliver. Hot blooded stallion Pewtie didn't take a moment to hesitate sprinting towards any jumps, and knew no fear when it came to testing his limits with Morgan. Capable as always, Morgan didn't let him get away with even one stride out of place as they reached for the gold.

Dartny Equestrian Tournament Christmas Competition feat. Ryleigh & R&DR Crack a Cold One; Jill & BSH Top Notch Heartthrob
Roan & Dapple Ranch was excited to be a part of the Darnty Equestrian Tournament: Christmas Competition! We had a large roster of horses lined up for this, so it was a lot of planning and organization simply just to get there - the training, dressing, presenting, and competing was a whole other story. First up for the 0.90 Jumper was owner Ryleigh Knox and her mare R&DR Crack a Cold One, who we call Scout. Scout, being ever so dependable and safe for all levels of riders, made Ryleigh feel completely at ease going over the obstacles. It was a good bit of experience for Ryleigh to compete in this as she needs more time to get used to the jumping arena and figuring out how to maneuver the jumps like she would barrels. Oddly enough, what made it easier for Ryleigh in the arena was being able to wear a comfy but ugly Christmas sweater. The next competitior of ours competing in the 1.10 Jumper were Jill and new stallion BSH Top Notch Heartthrob but known as Deuxce in the barn. Showing off in her very extra "Christmas Candy Cane Competition Garment" - as Jill put it - it didn't hinder these two from showing off and showing out in the competition. Jill being a talented rider and Deuxce being a talented horse is just a match made in holiday heaven.

Stock Horse Racing Association Fall Classic feat. Ryleigh & R&DR Rebel Heart Ferrari
Roan & Dapple Ranch was excited to be a part of the very first Stock Horse Racing Association's Fall Classic! Up until the recent creation of the club, we were simply using our stock horses for ranch work and other various western competitions. We knew we wanted to include one of our stallions who loves to run his little heart out, and that would be our incredibly loved and fast R&DR Rebel Heart Ferrari - but around her, we call him Warwick. And who better to ride him around the track than our owner and speed enthusiast, Ryleigh! The two had so much fun tearing up the dirt at the racetrack on event day, it was great to see the both of them letting loose. By the time the race was over, Ryleigh and Warwick were dead tired and were quiet the whole ride back to the barn.

Leopard Union Complex Scorpio Season feat. Jill & WWF Stray Spotlight
Roan & Dapple Ranch was excited to be a part of the very first Leopard Union Complex's showcase: Scorpio Season! Very green and very excited to be competing for the first time in her life was Willoway Farms and Roan & Dapple Ranch's co-owned mare, WWF Stray Spotlight - or, Superbaby. (Yes, that's her government name.) Being this was her first time competing, we didn't know what to expect from her. Dad's calm and quiet, mom is a diva with attitude. Who did she get a majority of her personality from? Both - much to our delight. With her level headed approach to the ring - like dad - she was showing off plenty of fancy moves - like mom. Overall, for her first competition, aside from needing some reassurance from WWF Stray Garnet, Superbaby was just as name suggest: A super baby!

Leopard Union Complex Scorpio Season feat. Ryleigh & WWF Stray Garnet
Roan & Dapple Ranch was excited to be a part of the very first Leopard Union Complex's showcase: Scorpio Season! When we think of who is a stable competitor and also has the striking looks to entice plenty of attention, we know it's WWF Stray Garnet who is coming to show. Typical Arden fashion, he was calm and collected throughout his time in the ring. One thing was out of place though: Arden's young daughter, Superbaby, was making a little bit of a fuss outside of the ring which caught his attention. But he was back on track after calling out to her, and that seemed to settle the two down. Being a dad comes second to being a champion show horse, of course.

Leopard Union Complex Scorpio Season feat. Morgan & ASA Süßes Gift
Roan & Dapple Ranch was excited to be a part of the very first Leopard Union Complex's showcase: Scorpio Season! ASA Süßes Gift is a competition go-to for us because of her striking appearance, her need to please, and her attention to her job while in the ring and out of it. And one of the riders who loves to show her off the best is our very own Morgan. Being an evening show, this wasn't anything new for Morgan, though Sicarelle had a different idea. Luckily though she spooked a few times, Morgan was there as an emotional rock for our Araloosa mare. Morgan's confidence in herself and Sicarelle must have shined brighter than the lights of the arena as they competed, dazzled, and impressed the crowd, photographers, and judges.

I Am Your Father feat. Ryleigh, Faith, WWF Stray Garnet & WWF Stray Spotlight Roan & Dapple Ranch has never really been known to cooperate with other stables - not because we're not fans of the idea of collaboration or co-owning, but simply because the thought never occurred to us. Well, when Willoway Farms approached with a breeding opportunity, how could we possibly refuse? WWF Stray Garnet was our very first Willoway Farms horse who has given us amazing success in competitions and companionship at the ranch, so we knew that breeding Arden with another Appaloosa Sporthorse would be a fantastic outcome. And sure enough, we were right. WWF Stray Spotlight - who we have been lovingly referring to as Superbaby as her name - is showing already massive potential in movement and scope in just her early years. We at Roan & Dapple Ranch are so excited to combine training efforts and push this little cutie to her fullest potential.

Hunter Jumper Association Halloween Weekend feat. Ryleigh & CM Kalimer's Echo
A little more rare to see, we have our owner Ryleigh competing this time around. For the close friends of the ranch, you will know that Ryleigh is a western girlie through and through who prefers to stay on the ground. But with her sister-in-law Morgan and cousin Sadie bugging her to get over her fear of heights, Ryleigh put on her big girl breeches and took to the jumping course with CM Kalimer's Echo. Even though it was a little rough to get through for Ryleigh, she was safe enough with Kalimero and knew that he was safe enough to keep her on his back. Sure enough, the two finished the course and even though a prize was not awarded to these two other than a participation acknowledgement, it was just another moment where Ryleigh and Kalimero got to stretch their competing legs and get a little more experience under their belts - or girths.

Hunter Jumper Association Halloween Weekend feat. Morgan & ASA Monarch Heir
Another day, another Morgan showcase of why she's one of the most valuable members of our team. This time, we were lucky to be in the crisp and cool Autumn air with sun streaming down on our backs. With us was our brand new Appaloosa Sport Horse: ASA Monarch Heir - or Monarch, for short around the barn. Like with our other Azure Stables horse, Monarch was nothing short of calm and collected in the ring. Amongst all the hype and excitement the competition had to offer, Monarch and Morgan were in motion with one another while they leapt through the course and stood for pictures during inspection. Coming out the other end with 6th place in hand, and a good amount of experience, this duo really came out on top.

Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg Six feat. Morgan & R&DR So Nice Ya Looked Twice
With the last of the rain coming down and the energy still as strong as the earlier morning, Morgan and Sterling weren't deterred from the course ahead. Sterling, still young and inexperienced but with all the confidence a stallion can have, held his own quite well under Morgan's firm hand. Although the two clashed throughout the competition while striding forward through the harsh weather conditions, they managed to finish in one piece. Despite the two not being a match made in soppy heaven, Morgan and Sterling were still fierce competitors who gave the other riders a run for their money.

Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg Six feat. Jill & ASA Süßes Gift
The rain continues this morning on the track, but it's hardly anything for Jill and Sicarelle to bat an eye at. Although the weather was determined to slow these two down, we were so pleased to see their defiant denial to the elements. Sicarelle, scopey as ever, was not allowing for the rain to cloud her eyes where she needed to go, bringing Jill along for the ride. Sicarelle didn't hesitate to advance toward all of the obstacles set before her, allowing for a quick paced ride for Jill on top, though there was need for some steady hands on the Araloosa otherwise she might have had too much energy too soon in the course. At the end of it all, these two finished in a good time and Sicarelle was left feeling like she breezed through it all far too quickly and wanted a round two, but Jill was wiped and lead the crossbred mare over to the tent to cool off and dry down.

Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg Six feat. Sadie & WWF Stray Garnet
What's better than a fresh, crisp autumn morning on the cross country track? A fresh, crisp autumn morning on the cross country track in the rain. When we arrived to the track and saw it was raining, the first thought we had was, is this going to be safe? Unlike humans, though, horses don't seem to give two tail flicks of a fuss about this sort of thing. While the other horses were stomping the ground in anticipation to compete, Arden stood there calmly, looking to Sadie to see what she had to say about it. Sadie, naturally daring - as if you couldn't tell by the red hair - didn't mind a little rain. And so, onto Arden she climbed and off the two went. One of the things we love about Arden is that when we tell him it's time to work, he works hard. He's not afraid to get dirty, wet, sweaty, or a little bruised and neither is Sadie, which is why these two work so well together. Despite a few slips and slides in the mud, no one got hurt and everyone got to the finish line in a good amount of time.

Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg Five feat. R&DR Romantisch Aussehendes Glas and Jill
Last but certainly not least impressive to have his go at the cross country track (generously provided for the public by CK | True North Equestrian) for the Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg 5, Jill riding R&DR Romantisch Aussehendes Glas, or has he's lovingly known as, Pewter. Jill specializes in horses that have too much 'go' and not enough 'woah', which is why we love these two together. At the very start of the track, Pewtie's feet were lifting off of the ground out of anticipation for getting going, and when Jill let his reins go loose, he was off like a bullet leaves a gun. Jill knew just when to pull back and direct this enthusiastic boy, especially in the water when he needed to settle and watch his step in the water a little better. But when they were getting to the end of the course, Jill let him completely loose and the speed went from 50 to 100 in what seemed like milliseconds, letting the hotblood shine through and finish the race with overwhelming success.

Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg Five feat. BSH Freckle Foot Shindig and Morgan
After a first successful round on the cross country track (generously provided for the public by CK | True North Equestrian) for the Eventing Breeders Trophy: Leg 5, we were excited to see Morgan riding BSH Freckle Foot Shindig, otherwise known as Stevie around the barn. With Morgan being an experienced and successful cross country rider, we knew for sure she would be able to help Stevie along the way, as this was Stevie's second time competing. Well we were a little wary when Stevie spooked at the sight of a rogue bunny right before the timer was about to begin, but Morgan didn't let it phase her or give in to Stevie's panic episode. When the timer went off, she applied leg and off Stevie went. As the course went on, Stevie seemed to be more sure of her footing and had a new puff in her chest while she continued through. By the end, Morgan was practically holding on for dear life as Stevie got her second wind and seemed to be looking forward to what was around the corner. We're so proud of Stevie for coming out of her shell, and once again to Morgan for being the constantly calm companion of our more dodgey horses.
