My pair Caoimhe and Daichi have babies 1-2 times a year, so I decided to make a little website to document their family. I have 20+ years of raising and fostering parrots. I raise my conures a bit differently than others. I believe in co-parenting chicks—which means I allow them to be cared for and fed by their parents, and then once they're weaned/fledged, I begin training them to be pets. I have found that chicks who are taken from their parents at a young age and hand-fed are far more likely to develop emotional and psychological problems later in life (i.e. plucking). In addition, I never clip my conures wings because doing so can stunt their development; instead, I focus on teaching them recall so they can fly around my home safely!
FAQ (updated 9/6/24)
What do you feed your conures?
I feed them a variety of fruits, veggies, legumes, pellets, and other conure friendly food. The pellets I feed them are Harrison’s, TOPS, and sometimes Roudybush. Their favorite is Harrison’s High Potency, but it’s become so expensive!
Do you put closed-ring tags on the chicks?
No! I’ve heard of too many horror stories of closed-rings getting caught on stuff and the birds leg getting broken. I use open-ring leg tags so that in an emergency it can easily be taken off.
Do you DNA test your conures?
Yes! It's very important to me that they're DNA tested before going to their future homes. I use the service by iQBirdTesting.
What are the parents personalities?
Caoimhe (female) is very fierce, quiet, and loyal. She is absolutely nonsense. Her idea of a good time is sitting on my shoulder, wrapping her foot around my hair, and falling asleep. She does NOT like being disturbed from her beauty sleep!
Daichi (male) is a goofy goober. Sometimes I think he has only one braincell. Not even two. He is hyperactive and wacky. He legit can't sit still! He loves to play-wrestle and get into everything, and touch everything, and talk to everything!

#is that raspberry juice all over his tummy or is he just delightfully colored — @lishadra
No, he is just a delightfully colored High Red Pineapple! (๑>◡<๑)
In the video he was about 4 months old, so he's got a lot more pink/red colors now and is much brighter in person. I wish the variant wasn't called High Red—it would be much cuter if it was called Raspberry Pineapple or Pomegranate Pineapple. I wonder if I just started calling my conures that would people just go with it...
