The only writing advice that matters is this:
Persist.
Against all odds, despite doubt and scorn, with joy in your heart,
Persist.
Fly in the face of common sense and refuse to grow old where it matters most - your mind and soul.
Persist.

This might be unpopular but I’m not going to use simpler vocabulary in my writing if it’s out of character for the narrator. If my POV character is a botanist, he’s going to call a plant by its name. If you don’t know what it is you can either Google it or move on just knowing it’s a plant of some sort.
I don’t like this trend of readers being angry that not everything is 100% understandable for them. I want my characters to be believable as people and sometimes people use words people outside of their field will not understand. That’s not a bad thing.
You don’t have to understand every word to get the gist of what’s happening. I’m not going to slow down an action scene to describe every weapon because someone might not know them by name. They can just assume it’s a weapon because that makes sense in the context of the scene.

How to Handle Critique
I’ve got to admit, I wish I was one of those beatific saints that could take critique with a grateful smile. Instead, I am constantly suppressing a horrible little gremlin at the back of my head hissing at anything from legit plot critiques to grammar corrections. I’m well aware I used that comma wrong, GOD.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m very good at suppressing that gremlin, but the little bastard is still there. He exists because even though your brain knows critique can help, it also knows you worked damn hard on the thing being critiqued, and goddamnit, isn’t that enough???
Anyway, here are some tips on getting that gremlin to shut the hell up.
It is okay to be upset. You worked really hard on this thing, and now someone’s gone and pointed out all the things that suck about it. You cannot control how you feel about one thing or another, but you can allow yourself to feel that way and let it pass through you. Let your critique partner you’re taking time to reflect on it, and go for a walk. Do something else. Let those feelings pass through you before you get back to the page.
Give yourself time. Don’t feel like you need to correct things right away (unless they are minimal grammar tweaks). Some pieces of feedback might take awhile to sink in, especially when you’ve got a whole novel to wrestle through. Set it aside, think about something else for a week or so, and get back to it when you’ve reset.
Get a second opinion and/or ducky friend. It can be very hard to tell the difference between good and bad feedback sometimes. Someone who means very well could give feedback that just doesn’t work for you, and someone who doesn’t give two shits could have spotted that fatal flaw right away. You can bring in a real third party or just make use of the old rubber duck technique, where you talk through the issue with a friend or a Naruto poster telling you to Believe it. Working it out out-loud is a really effective technique to figure out what needs fixing and what doesn’t.
Guide critique-givers toward the feedback you want. I, a person who prefers straightforward fantasy and sci-fi, cannot give the fine-tooth points on how a romance novel should work. However, I can give feedback on what works for me and what doesn’t story-wise. Giving your beta reader or critique partner a list of questions to look for will help avoid vague feedback based on how they don’t like the genre. There are many ways to do this, but consider using the following as a base to tailor your own questions:
Did you get a good sense of the setting? Did the worldbuilding make sense to you?
Was this story clear? Where there any parts that seemed confusing?
What characters did you like and why? What characters didn’t you like?
Did any parts of the story feel slow or repetitive?
Did the beginning draw you in? Did the middle keep you engaged? Did the ending feel satisfying?
If you were to write [insert plot point here], what would you do differently?
Again, all of the above questions are up for debate depending on your goal, but we are rarely taught how to give good feedback, and a guided feedback session would work better for you than a free-for-all.
Figure out what kind of advice doesn’t work for you. It is really hard to give good feedback sometimes, even with guided questions. It can also be really hard to figure out why some feedback doesn’t click with you, and that’s a matter of digging deep to figure out what you really want. You may lean toward characters who are horrible fuck-ups, but your partner prefers more steady characters who always strive to do the right thing. Your characters, therefore, may never click with this person, no matter how much they want to help you. And that’s okay! Figuring out where your critique partner is coming from can help you figure out what parts of their feedback isn’t working for you. Sometimes the only thing you can do is thank them and move on, but you might also want to guide them to focus more on the plot or the worldbuilding when looking at your work.
And last, don’t focus on grammar. It’s great if they point that out, but if you end up changing everything, trying to fix that first is a waste of your time. Grammar tweaks last, plot points first.
And, I dunno, give yourself a treat to get that horrible little mind gremlin something else to focus on. Sometimes patting those bad feelings on the head and sending them away can help way more than ignoring them.

Not going to lie but as someone who was high-performing as a student due to deadlines and maintaining high grades, it's becoming much too difficult to grasp in my mind that I, a fresh grad seeking a decently paying job, am now fully liable to push myself to create a new chapter in my life (and that is being an adult with a career).
#fresh graduate#job hunting#for context i'm an asian and in my culture we are expected to move out after college regardless of our age#unlike americans whom i heard are kicked out at the ripe age of 18#also it doesn't help at all that i'm overthinking how i'm writing my resume for weeks now#countless different resume tips have rendered my mind indecisive#information overload send help

what is an idol?
= a (famous) person who one considers worthy of particular admiration, devotion, or imitation; a person one looks up to.
as a kpop idol in the public eye, there's a guarenteed audience of people, who look up to you. who look at you, and wanna imitate you, want to be just like you, take you as a rolemodel. the responsibility that comes with this audience, is oftentimes underrestimated. especially young and influencable people, are prone to seeing these idols as what they'd like to be like when they grow up, or the type of person they would like to be with when they grow up. a kpop idol displays a fantasy of the perfect person. however, as they themselves prove time and time again, that fantasy is nothing but an illusion. most of these men are just like any other korean man walking on the street, if not worse.
knowing that being an idol comes with these undeniable responsibilities, training for years on end in order to get to that place, just to fuck up in the worst way possible, literally turn out to be the most disgusting scum of the earth is dispicable. i saw all these fansites closing down, and it hurt my heart to know that there probably was a naive and passionate person sitting behind the screen, who put so much of their time, effort and love into this person who quite literally manipulated them. my heart hurt for the victims, and for his fans, who have absolutely no fault in believing he was who he pretended to be. do not blame them for it.
most of my requests consist of readings on boy groups. very often, i get requests that want me to read on these male idols in romantic scenarios. every time, it opens my eyes to how so many people want these men to be their prince charming on a white horse, how so many of them project their beautiful fantasies onto these.. simple men. these guys are not any better or any worse than the korean man you saw walking on the street a while ago. they aren't worthy of this amount of idolisation, yet they receive it, because they're basically in a continuous theatre, playing a role that isn't entirely representative of their true nature. it's a sad reality that has probably shattered many fans' hearts, and that's what truly makes me sad.
please, try not to get too attached to these men. it is not worth it. you guys' hearts are too precious, and it shouldn't be broken by some random ass dude who happened to have a nice voice and be decent looking, but is a piece of shit inside. you all are too valuable for that.
tumblr has one of the sweetest communities, and i'm serious when saying i genuinely love you all. please, stay safe and take of yourselves 🤍
i promise my inbox is always open and i will listen to everything, if you feel the need to let something out.

I would like to discuss a very serious topic today. I'm sure any kpop fan knows about the recent events that occurred few hours ago regarding NCT 127's Taeil. I have a lot of words regarding this situation.
First of all I would like to say I hope all the affected victms who got involved into this mess get their well deserved justice and may they get immense strength to fight for their rights.
As someone who has been a fan of NCT since their pre-debut days... I'm talking about those days when Hansol was also a part of SMent and NCT, it really was a huge shock to hear about this situation. This was one of those moments where I was genuinely so shocked to my core it actually shook me, but at the same time it also put things in perspective that how deceptive and nefarious humans can really be and I also hope that this is turning point for those kpop stans who hold immeasurable high level of parasocial relationship with their faves.
I hope we as a society realize that even though they are celebrities and have "star power" they are common people before the glamour, they deserve equal amount of sentence that common man gets. These people should NEVER be able to get away from their wrong doings.
Nothing will ever haunt me more than knowing that he bugged a phone for 6 years... 6 GODDAMN LONG YEARS, threatened to k word the victim's ill mother and harassed her if she spoke up. 6 long years and the file complaint against him was only filed in this year's June/July. My heart pains to even think about the horrors we as women have to go through, please it is my sincerest request to all of you or anyone reading this to THINK FIRST, they are common citizens before a celebrity, the "worship" and whole parasocial relationship with them can be very harmful.
To think that his members unfollowed him, his own best friend of almost 20 years unfollowed him and the fact that he has a sister is so heartbreaking. I hope all the NCT members are taking their well deserved break from social media, his best friend I just hope he is in a safe and healthy environment and for this sister to be kept away from her own brother. This is truly so heartbreaking.
Please remember that morals and ethic should always be a priority over a celebrity or someone with star power/status.
