before this playthrough i had no idea about this side quest where some space monkeys stole an important data module from a crashed drone and you have to drive the fricking Mako for miles away and check on EVERY MONKEY THERE IS while the planet is actively trying to KILL YOU and when you think you've finally done with this shit you get attacked by the geths because of course it's not that easy

oh and the comments you get from the companions if you accidentally drive over one of the monkeys are crazy. Liara will say something like 'yeah this is why you humans have such a violent reputation' I HATE IT HERE

i love how Gandalf invested in Hobbits in year one and has been pushing them ever since. Thorin, i hear you need help with a breaking and entering. Can I recommend one of these little cunts? i enjoy veilguard well enough, but the devs constantly referring to the companions as a found family is so fucking asinine to me. ignoring the fact that half of these companions already HAVE families (hell, some with families that are closely related to their own plots!), veilguard's companions are honestly the least deserving of the found family trope in the whole series. like, none of the companions in the dragon age series give me found family vibes (if forced at gunpoint to choose one, i would go with da2. but as a toxic, shattered ""family"" who winds up on dateline following a catastrophic murder-suicide incident), but veilguard's companions ESPECIALLY DON'T.

written as is, i see literally 0 reason for any of these people to stick together as a family in the long term once the elven god threat is gone. unless if your idea of a found family is as distant cousins who were close for one summer and now send each other christmas cards once a year with the occasional "congrats!" on facebook posts announcing major life events

it just feels like the writing didn't let the companions organically bond or have serious conflicts. and just having rook state "we're a FAMILY now!" isn't too great. it's a lot of telling and very little showing. is the family in the room with us right now

I completely forgot how strongly they force you into kaidan romance in the first game. Literally no dialogue option is safe, I'm fighting for my life trying to have a conversation with him and NOT to end up together 😭
