“You got it right, dear.” She pointed her finger on him “I tell her that he’s not around I will tell her more about him when she’s a bit older you know? It is when it comes to my history with him...”

“i’m sorry to hear it. but i guess that means you don’t have to deal with awkward dinners, am i right?”

“Well....” She said pressing her lips “When my daughter keep asking me about her daddy making every dinner to an awkward one especially if I’m dating someone which thank god I’m not right now.”

“Same” The brit replied “Well at least your parents talk to you. Mine are just arseholes.”

“family centric holidays are pretty bleak when you don’t have much of a family, specifically kids around. i mean, it’s an obvious notion but it never ceases to amaze me how absolutely miserable dinner with my parents is during the holidays when it’s just the three of us. kind of makes me wish i put a little more effort into growing the family.”

When Riley asked about her daughter, Kylen reached down to take hold of her hand, trying to calm her down. “Your daughter’s fine, Ri. She’s with her friend for the night, remember? I can take you home once the doctors say it’s okay, and if you’re still not feeling better by tomorrow, I’ll go pick your daughter up and bring her home to you. I promise.” he told her. “My hands are fine. Just grazed. Doctor looked at them for me while I was waiting for you to wake up– let me clean them up and even bandaged them for me. I’m fine. Are you?”

“Oh right” The Brit said nodding while pressing her lips together. Riley felt really sick and she felt like she has a heavy weight on her shoulders. Then she got up quickly and ran to the bathroom and puked. Riley then looked to her side and cleaned her mouth with some paper “I’m so sorry I feel like crap....all I want to do is to go home...I had a bad feeling about tonight and I still went out. I needed to stay with Marie and watch a movie.” She said settling herself down on the bathroom floor. She felt like she can’t get up.

“Not every time, but this time, yeah,” she said, shaking her head. “I’ve just had enough, you know?” She chuckled a little bit. “Yeah, I have to say this is  a new one for me,” she said. “My place isn’t too far from here,” she said, as they approached a complex. She headed in and got to the door. “You’re welcome to come inside,” she said. “I’ve got dogs, just a heads up,” she smiled, as she headed in and went to the freezer to put together a pack for her.

“That mast be scary!” The Brit nodded while he eyes lit “Yes I understand.” Riley nodded as she followed the blonde to her apartment “No worries I love dogs” Riley smiled as she stepped in the apartment while her hand still on her bruised cheek. “Thank you” She said taking the ice pack and putting it against her cheek “Shit it hurts.”

It was another Friday which means that she needed to work a double shift today and keep Marie at her friend’s house. She didn’t like to work at that crappy diner but she needed the money now more than ever. She needed to pay rent, pay for Marie and of course her expensive ballet class. So Riley did what she needed to do and worked as a waitress while she regain her muse for her new book. Riley had an artistic soul and not having muse was something that depressed her badly. The day was cold and rainy and Riley arrived to work just before it started to rain. 

The place didn’t have a lot of costumers and especially in this shitty weather. Riley was standing behind the bar trying to organize everything when her co-worker- Jenny called her to one of the booths and told her that the man that sitting there said that he wants her to be his waitress because he knows her “Know me? Well okay...just one sec” She took her little note book, a pen and picked her hair into a pony tail while approaching the booth. “Hello welcome how can I he___” Riley froze as soon as she looked up to see Carter. Was it really him? After a few awkward staring moments Riley spoke again “Carter?”

It was Friday night and a little bit after school let out for the weekend. Carter found himself in Brooklyn, his friends wanting to grab a few drinks with him. Arguably, he wasn’t a big drinker himself. Only on rare occasion did he find himself too inebriated to properly function. Carter dipped after the first drink, mainly because it looked like it was going to storm and he’d rather be holed up in his own apartment than with his friends–although they all had good intentions, sometimes they were a bit much for his liking. Plus, he also didn’t have an umbrella or coat ready enough to protect him if it did start to rain. With his luck, it had started to rain. He braved it for a little bit before it really came down. 

Ducking into the nearest place that wasn’t too busy, he breathed a sigh of relief when he no longer felt the rain hitting him. A moment later he froze for a split second. It must’ve been purely coincidental that he had ended up in the same spot as her, right? Snapping out of it, he sat down in an empty booth, looking over the menu that had been there. A waitress–that wasn’t her–walked over, intent on serving him, but Carter stopped her before she could ask him what he wanted to drink. “I’m sorry but, if it’s not too much trouble, could I get her for a waitress?” Carter offered up a small smile to the woman currently waiting on him, giving a small point towards where Riley stood. “I…know her.” Know was a bit of a stretch, all things considered, but it was easier to say than delving into their whole complicated history. His apologetic smile grew slightly larger as the waitress agreed and went to switch. Carter drummed his hands on the table for a moment. At this point, he wasn’t sure if Riley had seen him walk in, but she’d definitely see him now.

“It’s how I was raised,” she said, shrugging. “I try to keep a handle on it, but…this girl, I’ve known her for years. She’s made my life a living hell. Every time I have something good or whatever, she finds a way to fuck it up. Her latest has been trying to catfish people I know, including my boss, pretending to be me.” She bit her lip, nodding. “Come on, then. Let’s get that ice pack,” she said.

“I don’t understand...does she trying to steal your identity?” Riley said looking a bit confused “Well I guess if that is the case I would’ve punched her too.” The Brit replies as she followed the other female to get an ice pack “That’s a weird way to meet people, you know?”

“If you’d known what she’d done, you probably wouldn’t disagree,” she said simply, rolling her eyes. “I’m hormonal, she crossed a line, and not for the first time. I lost it. Don’t tell me you’ve never lost your temper, before. Look, what can I do? Food, drinks, anything. I’ll make it up to you.”

“Well now you have to tell me” She said pressing her lips together “Of course I lost my temper lots of times but I never punched someone even when I was pregnant and believe me I know that being pregnant is a total nightmare” She simply explained herself “An ice pack would be quite alright for now” She said trying to smile but it hurt. “God you have strong hands”

When she’d seen the woman, she could have sworn she was someone else. That obviously was not the case. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry,” she said, shaking her head. “You looked just like..” she broke off. “I thought you were someone else,” she said, rubbing the back of her neck. “I’m really sorry. I swear, I’m not a psycho.”

Riley looked around and then back at Kylen. She looked very confused and she felt super sick. "Hours? Oh wow..." She saud letting out a sigh as her eyes grow wide "Where's Marie???? Where is she? Does she know I'm okay?" Riley said as she tried to get up but her head hurt "How's your hands? They're not bloody anymore?" She said looking at his hands. She still felt quite dizzy.

Riley nodded and then everything went black. Riley woke up in the hospital bed feeing a bit better. “Kylen”

Kylen had been sitting in a chair in Riley’s room waiting for her to wake up. When he heard his name, his eyes quickly went to his friend and he got up to go check on her. “Hey– hi, how are you feeling? Are you feeling better? You’ve been asleep for hours.”

Kylen had never been violent around Riley before. In fact, most of his friends didn’t peg him as the violent kind. That’s how good he was at covering up the bad side to him. He wondered if it would spark questions from Riley when she was sober again. Pulling out his phone, Kylen called the ambulance and then tucked his phone away. “They’re on their way, Ri.”

“Thank you, Ky...I don’t know what would’ve happen if you waren’t there to help me....ugh this is just a nightmare” She said putting her head on her hands “Thank you”
