This is ridiculous. This type of thinking is ridiculous, and the fact that the school isn't doing anything is even more ridiculous!
On friday, I went to school in my Grell cosplay. On friday, I wanted to celebrate a fun day with some friends I met at a convention who are attempting to put on a nearly impossible show. On friday, I went to school expecting a few strange looks, confused questions, rude comments, and maybe even a few laughs.
What I didn’t expect was that I would be attacked by someone that I had never even seen before.

Video
youtube
In September of 2013 the convention San Japan, based in San Antonio, asked me if they could use a video of cosplayers that I shot at their event for advertisement and promotion, via Twitter. They did not offer to pay me, they did not offer any sort of compensation and basically just wanted a free commercial. But, I was doing this for fun outside of my normal video production job and decided to allow it if they would agree to certain things details that I wanted, essentially credit. Specifically told them that I was having a logo/watermark commissioned at the time and when it was done I would send them a re-cut version that they could use, which you can now find here (the only one online). They decided I was not fast enough or just didn’t care in general and took my un-watermarked video that was uploaded on my Youtube channel for fun and started using it for profit as advertisement. I never even sent them the original file so they had to use a 3rd party software to rip my video off of the internet. The first time I personally saw them using my work was December 2013 at IKKiCon in Austin, Tx. Though they may have used it before that in the time between September and December. They have also been using it since that time, the latest being Mizuumi Con in March 2014 (I was told my video was seen there at the San Japan booth). They have been using my work uncredited and unpaid for months now and it needs to stop.

Fan Expo Canada is presenting Toronto Comicon this weekend, March 7-9, and apparently doesn't care about the safety of it's cosplayers. I'm really not impressed. ’We thought about clarifying that cuddles must come with consent, but we thought if we’re always putting the rules in front of the fun – well that hurts the spirit of Fan Expo as much as the people that try to abuse our rules.” Reminding people not to harass other attendees only makes the convention less “fun” for those who were inclined to harass in the first place. For everyone else, it reassures them they can have real fun in a safe environment with fellow fans. (via Fan Convention Cosplay Harassment Fan Expo Canada | The Mary Sue)

You know, I was WONDERING why the texture of the fabrics had such a sparkle to them when I was going through stills; turns out the movie was coproduced by Swarovski. EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE NOW. (Kind of. Swarovski is producing movies now…? I know they’ve ducked in on projects like Phantom in 2004, but okay.)

Recently I finished this costume, and it is kinda fitting to share now with V-day being tomorrow.
Halloween Russia from Axis Powers Hetalia. Buttons were hand made and painted to match the dark pink jabbot/neck scarf. The heart outlines were made out of matte pleather and heat n'bond-ed to the fabric.
Using heat n'bond and pleather/vinyl is quickly becoming my favourite way to make appliques. It's a bit finicky, as it is quite easy to overheat and melt the vinyl. However, it is very effective and looks so nice and clean! Yay for new techniques!
