Ricochet Writing
2 posts
[Ricochet, She/Her] I'm a bisexual cis white woman trembling on the precipice of middle age. I identify as "queer as in fuck you" and care deeply about access, equity, and intersectionality. I like to write about [mostly sapphic] queer folks, usually in fantasy or sci-fi settings. I love tropey romance and camp, plus weird specfic and world-building. I take commissions to help people world-build, create characters, write backstories, and more! If you want to support my writing, buy me a coffee at https://ko-fi.com/ricochetwriting.

Character Writing Commissions
Character creation
I create you a one-of-a-kind bespoke character for use in RPGs, fiction, etc. You will own this character and can do with them what you will, including using them in published works. I retain the rights to my own writing (as in backstories), but you may use and share my words in not-for-profit capacities, and you may use the details I invent in for-profit capacities, just not my actual words.
I prefer to communicate via email about commissions, since I work full time, but if you would like to brainstorm in real time (via Discord), we can schedule something. I will just need to charge $20/hour (prorated) for my time if brainstorming takes longer than 30 minutes.
Random Character: $40
I create you a completely random character of my choice for whatever kind of setting you prefer (outer space, high fantasy, coffee shop, D&D settings, etc.)
I will include their species (if non-human), age, gender, race, occupation or class, background, talents and skills, significant equipment, physical description, core beliefs and values, goals and motivations, flaws, a “relationship web”, and a short (1-2 paragraphs) backstory. I’ll also throw in five “fun facts” about your character!
Custom Character: $60 I create you a custom character for whatever kind of setting you prefer (outer space, high fantasy, coffee shop, D&D settings, etc.) You can provide as many details as you want for me to incorporate into their creation and backstory, and I will do my best to turn them into a believable character.

Backstory Writing: $20+ You tell me about your character, and I take your bulleted list of ideas for their backstory (if you don’t have any ideas yet that’s fine too), and write out a cohesive, lore-friendly character backstory. I will charge $.04 per word (about $20/page). You can let me know how long you want the story to be and which aspect(s) of the character’s backstory you want me to focus on.
As a reminder, I retain the rights to my own writing, but you may use and share my words in not-for-profit capacities, and you may use the details I invent in for-profit capacities, just not my actual words.
Just to be very clear, this is NOT an art commission.
I have no talent in visual art, but I am a talented writer with an active imagination and a knack for organizing that information on the page.
Please feel free to message me with any questions!

An angry outburst [short writing sample]
It was only 5:00, but the darkness visible through the window of the tiny hunting shack made it feel like night. The storm building outside, however, had nothing on the one building inside Amity’s heart. She had worked so hard these past few weeks to keep everything bottled in: the betrayal she still felt too keenly, the anger at being treated like a foolish child, and the overwhelming frustration of being supervised by someone she couldn’t stand. She was the most powerful sorcerer of her time; she was Amity fucking Grace! And she was done being jerked around. She’d show them what she was capable of, she’d show them all -starting with the pointy-eared know-it-all who was calmly staring out the window, hands clasped lightly behind her back, as if being trapped in this goddamned shack by the magical storm of the century was merely curious. As though she could sense Amity’s building rage, Corwin turned around to face her. “You’re glowing,” she said calmly. She said everything calmly. Sometimes Amity wondered if it was possible to make the elven woman display an honest emotion. It was time to find out.
“I’m glowing because I’m angry, Cor. Maybe that’s an emotion you’re not familiar with.” She spit the words out of her mouth, as sharp and biting as she could make them. “I’m glowing because I’m ready to burn this fucking shack down around us until there’s nothing left out here but blackened earth.”
“If the shack was gone, we’d probably get quite wet in the rain that’s coming” Corwin pointed out.
“Dammit, woman! Why do you always have to do that?” Amity shook with the rage boiling over inside her. Her magic, unpredictable at the best of times, felt like it was steaming off her in plumes. She stepped closer to the shorter woman, getting in her face. She saw the elf flinch slightly at the molten heat coming off her body. “Does it make you feel superior to always be balanced, frozen, emotionless? Maybe that’s why you don’t care about what’s happening. You don’t care about any of the people who are going to get hurt if we can’t fix what’s going on. You don’t love anyone. You’re probably not even capable of love.” Corwin’s fist met Amity’s mouth with a crack that was echoed by the thunder outside. “Don’t tell me what I’m capable of, Amity Grace.”
