more cyanotypes...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted to experiment and play with the process of cyanotypes and also I found that because I wanted to play further with compositions and assemblages and this was the best method possible to use, I also found this to be an easier method to layer things on top of each and it still have a clear effect that you can see. I wanted to layer and arrange location with found objects and possibly text and language.

Cyanotypes plays...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This idea of directly working on a slab was a complete process that I didnt think would work, because the ink has nothing to stick to, so i was surprised to witness that the ink has stayed and not over developed. This test was completely unexpected and happened during a great flow of play. I was in a state of play and i wanted a different way to engage with my surrounding other than taking rubbings for example, so physically used nature within my process-led work.

Doodle outcomes from R.I.P presentation.
This was a very fun and interesting concept for showing my peers an insight to what I have been doing with working with process and play. With the intitial idea of the doodle exercise being about aimlessing doodle without purpose and doing something that is so second nature, sometimes you dont even realise your doing it.

R.I.P presentation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Within this presentation I wanted to create a discussion between us all with how my peers experienced play and what they think play is? I briefly mentioned a useful artist to my practice and presented a few pieces of my work just so people were aware of what I was up to. I also wanted to to incorporate an activity where I could get my peers to engage with my practice and process. My workshop idea was simply aimlessly doodling with no thought i will upload doodles.

Playing with text, font and language...
Tumblr media
image above: reflection with standing in the field and taking in the surroundings
“I find myself back at the field thats tucked away...
The smell of wet grass, the sound of birds singing, the cold breeze, and the loud
traffic.
I`ve noticed that the grass has been cut but only the outside, not the inside
why?
Its werid to hear noisy busy traffic but to also situate myself in quiet, empty feild.
How can I hear noise but still hear nothing, the sound of cars become second
nature, I don`t pay attention to the cars I only listen to the birds and feel the
warmth of the sun on my skin, I look at how the small plants move gently and
dance with wind, I can feel my hair and shirt dancing too...
Is this what peace feels like,?

Drawing plants...
These sketches are just small areas of my surroundings that caught my eye at the time: either they were different colour to the rest of greenery, different shape, different scale.
I also used the technique of drawing because everybody draws differently and each person experiences things and making the connection between materiality and process to meaning. I do what to incorporate drawing more into my practice.

cyanotype experimentation
Tumblr media
This is an image of cyanotype printed onto a envelope, this is because an envelope is just an everyday object and I thought it would look aesthetically appealing but also this was just a state a play, i did`nt even know if the envelope would hold out, i didnt even think about printing on it twice, i just did it

Art Based MA Programme: critical evaluation.
Observations
https://research-in-practice.tumblr.com/ --> my research blog
The link above is to my research in practice blog, my process-led work is about walking as a practice, and the sense of curiosity, discovery, play and aimlessness, while collecting found objects. My blog consist of a list of artist that are interested within the same media or theme, Exhibitions, different movements and techniques that I`m interested within, my ideas and reflections, some process led work and contextual research to support ideas.
I have only uploaded my blog no additional body of work because I got so lost within the process of play and aimlessness the current pieces I have arn`t presentationally ready.
My research did`nt start with the interest of walking, collecting sounds and things on my travels, it started with thinking about space and how it has changed due to covid. My interest obliviously started to drift away from this theme and I started to fined interests with the term "derive" and I began to read books about psycho-geography and how it can shift perspectives form one to another.
I liked the idea of an archaeological dig within my back garden because I had moved into a new area and I wanted to see what I could find within the dirt, it was at this point I grew interested with the idea of found objects and narratives and journeys they hold. I started to look into artists and situationlists to make a note to how I could develop this sense of derive and how I can achieve it. I was reading books such as:
-The view from the train, Patrick Keiller, Published by Verso 2014
-“Trust the Process” - An artist guide to letting go. Shaun McNiff, Shambhala Boulder 1998
These two books were very informative, I did`nt exactly know what I was looking for I was just reading, as soon as a chapter, sentence or a process made sense I would keep that information to development and refine my practice of walking.  While reading the chapters from Shaun McNiff, Trust the process:
1: Gathering and Arranging things.
2: Play and Ornamentation.
While reading these two chapters I was thinking further into the idea of aimlessness, collecting and arranging objects the idea of trusting a process and developing upon it and the importance of getting lost within play and experimentation.
I started going for walks around my area and documented them through:
-Collecting items: different shaped leaves, wires, strings, pegs, flowers, weird shaped things, cardboard etc
- Sound recordings (birds, wind, rain)
-creating sketches of plants that interested me
-Rock painting
-cyanotypes
-Relief printing with man hole covers and acrylic paint
-reflective writing.
-Photography
I used so many methods because I was acting upon instinct when I`m out.
Evaluation
My current body of experimental work is a series of methodologies that I want to work in within the next module of the final major project. The more and more I read about derive and play I could identify that I was getting lost within the process of play and I was just acting on instinct and not thinking about the final product or result. The experimental work that I developed is very heavy centred around process-based, I`ve always been fascinated with process and what happens in between, I link this to the idea of Rhizomes and how they act, how they are just middle no start no end.
Its abit difficult to articulate upon my art based word because its only experimentation and process led through the sense of play. My experience with going outside and venturing was a difficult one I felt as though I was stepping into the unknown I didn't know what to expect, my mind was completely open and empty and that alone is a difficult task to achieve.
Personally my work doesnt`t make sense because I am just aimlessly interpreting what I experience and find throughout my surrounds, I personally need some more time because I`m so lost within the process of play and derive that I car`nt fully complete a body of work. Experiencing the outside matters to me mentally it calms but also stimulate me.
Objectively viewing what I have done do show some signs of experimentation, play, derive, discovery and everyday, but I need more time to develop and tune my personal response to what I`m experiencing. Play and derive are an amazing process however sometimes I need to know when to pull myself away from the drift.
I will develop this notion of play, derive and discovery further within my FMP.

Landscape through chance
These were all created by accident: these were created by doing something else: like that masking tape, the masking tape purpose is to stop the paint form getting on boarder and I peeled the edge away and that when these beautiful subtle landscapes would be formed and created.
I`m really interested with term of chance and curiosity and these pieces show how an everyday objects can become so beautiful within a different context. Its rare to come across moments like this.

https://moodle.bcu.ac.uk/pluginfile.php/7153222/mod_resource/content/1/deleuzeguattarirhizome.pdf
Deleuze and Guattari`s text was really difficult to read and understand however stepping into the text space with an open mind helped me understand slightly better and get better grips on to the concept of Rhizomes from both philosophers.
From what I could grasp from the text was that Rhizomes have a relation to roots, they spread underground, with no direction, no beginning and no end, its has many relations and connections like the human mind and the learning process, Rhizome is a process.
Based upon the botanical term `rhizome` it has interconnecting points of thought which form assemblages of various elements: organic and inorganic, animate and inanimate, that exist moment to moment, connected, connecting and reconnecting defined not by an essence, but rather ‘solely by the circulation of different states’ (Deleuze and Guattari,)
Rhizome always remains an open network, as connections are never finalised into a permanent, fixed structure.

While I was exploring my area again, I was prepared to relief print man holds logos and messages and textures, I either use old used paper or fresh paper. I used acrylic paint and quickly painted over the words and quickly pressed the paper over raised font.
Why did i do this?
Honestly I don`t know, my mind had seen raised edging and my brain instantly wanted to print them i could create a mix media peice with different layers of techniques and processes could create a really interesting arrangement.

Acetate illustrations
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I traced these images from layering the acetate over in front of the real life scence and hand traced while standing in place, I did this because i want to play with landscape and found items trough the process of cyanotypes.
