We headed north without a plan, towards lake huron. We ended up at a place better then we could have planned. We had an amazing view of Georgian Bay from our bed and hammock. We found caves to explore, cliffs to climb, and swings to swing on with the view of the bay. Life is good.

I'm itching to explore Canada in all of its majestic glory. Banff is one of the most amazing places I have ever been, I plan on spending months in those beautiful mountains when I can.

I changed my blog name to redthevan for two reasons, my brother is off on his own adventures, and my adventures are now going to be with Red my van! Red is my new home, I’ve been converting it and it’s really coming along and I can’t wait to go to all of the places Red is going to bring me!

I’ve been turning my ‘89 vandura into a home for me and my girlfriend. She is about a month away from finishing 6 years of art school and we are saving up to hit the road full time as soon as we can. The van is really coming along, I can’t wait for warm weather to start living and exploring in ol’ red. Life is good!

I think most people have heard of the Grand Canyon, but not nearly as many know about the Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Colorado,  which honestly left me in awe just as much as the Grand.  I actually think I enjoyed my time at the Black Canyon more. Maybe its the fact that the canyon walls are dark sheer cliffs thousands of feet straight down,  maybe it was that we could camp a two minute walk from the edge, and were able to watch sunset over the other side.   Maybe it was the road that zigzagged along following the edge,  every so often giving you a peak down inside.  Either way its probably the most impressive thing I’ve seen in Colorado, and definitely worth the drive.  I can’t wait to go back to hike down inside!

I have been looking at pictures from my first roadtrip with my brother Alex.  Its amazing how much things have changed since then, and how much that trip sparked everything off.  It was a major turning point in both of our lives, our goals, plans, and whole way of life have had a big change since then.  Alex is one kick-ass co-pilot, and an awesome person to go adventure with.  We are an awesome team, we each bring different things to the table.  I can’t believe how many awesome places we have camped, the crazy mountain roads we have driven, the mountains we have climbed, the music festivals we have gone to, the shenanigans we have gotten up too.  What an adventure man, I can’t wait for our next one!  Heres some pictures of him in some of the coolest of places.

I have been getting the van ready to go west in the summer.  We are definitely going to Banff and Jasper. My last trip here was very short, It will be amazing to be able to spend as much time as we want exploring the mountains, making art and music, swimming in glacial lakes, taking amazing pictures, living in the van.  Life is good, and getting better.

Remembering my last new years in death valley with alex. Definitely my favorite way to start a year. This was by far the best year of my life, lots of traveling, and getting a van to live in. Life is good.

Taylor Canyon in Canyonlands, Utah.  On our first roadtrip me and Alex hiked into the canyon on the alcove trail,  1300ft down to the bottom of the canyon, and about 6 or 7 miles to the spot we camped, near the pointy rocks they call “Moses and Zeus”.  We were the only people hiking or camping in the canyon that night.   We found an awesome overhang on the wash that provided some excellent shade to camp under.  This was one of our first crazy adventures, definitely one of the most extreme hikes we have done.  Our water jug cracked and started leaking on our second day in, so we had to leave a day early to make sure we had water for the very long hike out,  It was a close one!  It was so worth the hike, it was by far one of the coolest places I’ve ever slept.  It’s a very weird feeling knowing that you are completely alone in a giant canyon, and knowing it would take days, or weeks, for anyone to come find you.  This trip with my brother is what started the life I am living now, it started my life of exploring and adventures.

Fishers towers is one of my absolute favourite places.  I’ve been back on three different roadtrips, and will be back on many more.  It is a quick and gorgeous drive on the 128 from Moab, Utah.  You can explore endlessly, climb, and hike everywhere.  The colorado river is just on the other side of Professor Valley, and there are lots of good, cheap campgrounds, (Hal Canyon has an awesome rope swing over the river!) or you can camp right at the towers.  I cant wait to go back when i have time to spent a couple weeks exploring the whole place and really soak it in. :)

We loved Yosemite, despite the hordes of people and lack of water.  The drought made the falls a bit sad, but swimming under lower yosemite falls and in the river under el’ cap. was unreal.  I defintely see what John Muir was into, i would build myself a little hut and live here, if I was allowed..
