red eyes linger on mortal form briefly before a deep inhale follows. something about this one is ... different, he can tell that much. centuries of experience have honed his tracking enough to know when something or someone is off. and yet he can't tell why and part of it causes his blood to flare. a soft sigh escapes past scarred lips while the oni subdues his own instincts. there is nothing to be gained from letting them reign free, at best it'd cause a scene he didn't have the energy to deal with.

there's a brief pause, a moment where koujaku remains silent, eyes closing momentarily before he relaxes the fist he didn't know he'd clenched together. this is on him, really. whatever foolishness drove him to move around alleyways in populated areas was going to be his downfall eventually, of that he was sure. try as he might, ultimately the recklessness of a red oni was legendary to the point even his training couldn't fully beat it. 「 you weren't supposed to see me. 」

his voice is calm, even, the faintest hint of warmth honed by centuries mingling with mortals trailing behind his words while he opens his eyes again to finally look at the other properly. 「 ... i apologize for that. 」
