A moment for something the vast majority doesn’t ‘get’:
most of the time I don’t care what people think of me. not in the typical way, the way where teenagers exude confidence to hide their inner turmoil. I really don’t care. See, a while back I had a thought--why do I care what everyone thinks when most nobody gives more than a passing thought to the things I was agonising over? I know it sounds corny, it sounds overused, but it made sense. If I’m not wearing makeup and someone thinks I look plain I don’t care.
But it’s become more than that, and this is what the vast majority refuses to see: I fluctuate day in and day out and I don’t fault others for doing the same. If i wear makeup and put on a dress to sit around the house I reserve the right to judge myself and I don’t give it to anyone else.
Some days I don’t feel like speaking, some days I just have a lot to say, I can be a people person or I can be an introvert. I take everything in stride--except when I spaz out. I know nobody’s perfect, but I sometimes expect myself to be. Oh well. I’m flawed and mental and I’m okay with that. Live and Let Live is a fantastic code to live by and I embrace it.
And the best part about all that? People judge me for it, I’m a goody two shoes, a hypocrite, an idiot. I’m naive and shallow and idealistic apparently, but it’s okay for you all to think that if you need to. Whatever you need to do to be the best you.

Do not go gentle into that sweet night Old age should burn and rage and the close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

30-Day Poetry Challenge: Day III
There’s something oddly mysterious about letters
The ones that make up phrases, to be exact—not the type people once sent
The ones that make up the words.
You know the ones,
Those said by the he or the she
Those spoken because they can or because somehow they just can’t
Those whispered in the depth of night under the stars
Those shouted because the speaker feels unheard
It’s all letters, in these words. And within those letters are simple strokes
And yet somehow these tiny, comforting splotches of ink are in everything we are
Perhaps that’s why they’re an escape
Or perhaps I’m just imagining again
Yes, only imagining.

Writing a novel is a terrible experience, during which the hair often falls out and the teeth decay. I’m always irritated by people who imply that writing fiction is an escape from reality. It is a plunge into reality and it’s very shocking to the system.
Flannery O'Connor (via writersrelief)
thank god someone put this into words. I come home to write and people say it’s my ‘me’ time but all it does is stress me the hell out.
