the meadows

i became a people pleaser three years ago

appeased the people that i considered dearest

i grew nectar just to borrow

but there’s no stopping thieves from thieving

sucked it dry, sap for their lives

left to wilter at the rose garden

burned the lavender now i can’t sleep

plucked the violets now there’s none left

sapphic yearning destroyed the meadows

i’ve laid my lilies time and time again

i realised i was just a daisy

losing petals and bending at will

maybe it’s only daisies left

lopsided in the dewy grass

but i’m acting for myself instead

i found the spring of water round the bend

i feed myself, i make my energy

within a self sufficient family

of toughened up daisies

standing beside, not above me

and i know now that’s all i need
