The Bad Kids Are Funny because they're all fairly violent and get really aggro really quickly (hey that's what you get for making a highly competent adventuring party a bunch of teenagers who don't go to therapy) but then Riz is somehow just two steps above everyone else and they barely acknowledge it. Fury of the Ball is the most wonderful thing.
The "face" of their party around school would probably be like Fig or Fabian, maybe Gorgug. Wow they're so strong aha. Hey who do you think is the most brutal, probably the half-orc barbarian who seems to mostly repress his rage until it's time to throw down right? Right?? No it's the little guy in the corner. Yeah, the one who just hid in the shadows and now you can't see him anymore. Yeah, he shot a pixie's fingers off one by one to get information, yeah, he ate a live dragon, yeah, he offered to tear someone's eye out for his best friend, yeah, he said the words "make sure his head is cut off so he can't be revivified" about another student. Yeah, he's a fucking goblin and so unapologetic about it at this point.
I always imagine his "fury" (which is a goblin trait which implies Sklonda has it too btw, never forget) being like oughhh pupils blown so wide, hair standing up, hissing claws out, kill maim stab. Just for a few seconds. You can elect to use it after hitting, I imagine him sinking his sword into a big meaty enemy and going "hm wow this guy's pretty tough. I need him dead though. Needs to die." and he twists the blade puts his whole weight in it and just drags it down no matter what's in the way. It HAS to be so gross and brutal every time and his friends are just like oh there he goes, the Ball cleaning up again.
Especially fun with the Kipperlilly thing. Oh two rogues fighting without sneak attack, that's gotta be a slow careful battle where they chip away at each other. Oh she does like seven damage rushing past him, oh he's gonna do the same wait never mind he uses his fury he stabbed her SO badly. No rogue finesse no show about it just the intent to kill. Kid with traumatic past does in fact end up fucked and it isn't actually fun or quirky or interesting, who would have thought. Shoutout to hold person over the lava that goes disgustingly hard and is also so gruesome, imagine being paralysed and watching yourself fall into a pit that will burn you alive.
The thing with classic rogues is that you're "dead before you know you're being attacked" and it's "quick and easy and possibly painless" but if Riz kills you it's gonna hurt. You're gonna know and it's gonna hurt but hey high chance you don't get to do anything about it still. Phenomenal character.

I love when I see other people do this with their own hobbies and interests and this has been floating around my head for a while so here is what I think the bad kids would be like if they were figure skaters!
Gorgug: gorgug is definitely an ice dancer! it took him a while to really fall in love with skating because he really didn't like jumping but that all changed when he found ice dance. gorgug loves developing his basic techniques and has very strong fundamental skating skills. he also really loves pattern dances because he finds magic in the flow and creativity that lies within the framework of set steps on a set pattern with set timing/music. people from other skating discplines/non-skaters often underestimate gorgug because what do you mean you don't jump and you don't throw your partner, but they quickly learn their lesson when they see how compelling of a story gorgug can tell with very simple movements. skating is a huge outlet for gorgug, allowing to express himself artistically with the safety net of a technical rule system to fall back on when he starts to feel self-conscious.
Riz: riz is a freeskater/singles skater, competing in the men's event! he is not an elegant skater but is known for his immense power and speed. in my head, riz's skating skills are similar to those of elvis stojko or keegan messing (i immediately thought of elvis stojko when murph acts out riz's pissed off dancing in kei lumennura). he does very intricate, complicated fast footwork and jumps that are honestly kind of scary but also you can't help but be impressed by his ice coverage and fast rotations. riz will never be a skater who can pull off classical, pretty music, but he can skate to music way faster than most people. riz was also very happy when they lifted the ban on backflips because he has lots of acrobatic tricks to fill his program with. he knows his rule book inside out and backwards.
Fabian: like riz, fabian is a freeskater/singles skater, competing in the mens event! however, he could not be a more different skater from riz. fabian is an airy, elegant skater who makes difficult jumping passes look like elegant leaps. fabian also fills his program with rippon jumps (meaning he rotates his jumps with his arms above his head instead of pulled into his chest). while fabian likes to pretend its so easy to do rippon jumps and acts like he doesn't understand why everyone isn't doing it because they obviously look way better, it actually took fabian along time to figure out the proper air position. fabian is also a beautiful spinner but will happily sacrifice technical levels on a spin if it means the spin is more elegant and better fits his program music.
Fig: fig is a pairs skater and her love of adrenaline makes her a good one too! coaches are often impressed by how quickly fig is willing to try new elements, like a new throw or a complicated change of position in an overheard lift. fig is also an incredibly creative skater, putting out lifts and choreography that is very different from the standard, typical options most people are doing. in this way, fig reminds me of piper gilles and paul poirier. her program themes will not always work for everyone (and definetly won't for the more traditional judges and viewers) but you cannot deny that she is creating original art and making bold, innovative choices in every program she puts out. sandra lynn (who i do think would be fig's coach) forces fig to keep training her singles skating so that her side by side jumps are strong, but fig finds skating alone and only working on jumps to be so boring.
Adaine: adaine is the graceful, elegant, balletic freeskater/singles skater that we all think of when we think of figure skating. she almost exclusively skates to classical music, but if she's feeling particularly bold in a season, she will skate to an orchestral cover of a pop song. she trains in all black with her hair in a bun. adaine is the full package: she can cleanly land the most difficult jumps, is a beautiful spinner, has strong skating skills, and is so flexible that her field moves are out of this world (she has a serious sasha cohen spiral). adaine gets very nervous at competitions, however, and is not a very consistent skater as such. when she skates clean its breathtaking, but as soon as she falls on or pops a jump, the whole program falls apart. she's been working on competing like she trains and taking her programs one element at a time but it's definitely a journey,
Kristen: to me, kristen is a synchro skater. she loves the community and she loves her teammates so much; she could not imagine being on the ice without them. kristen really likes how artistic synchro is as well, coming up with a clear narrative/message to tell as a team and then telling that story through the pictures they create with their configurations and formations. kristen doesn't care so much for technical rules in that while she values the importance of high levelled elements, she trusts that someone else will tell her what she needs to do to hit the technical requirements, and so doesn't really learn the rules, getting lost in the story instead. kristen is known amongst her team for being clumsy, and she has definetly hit her toe pick, bringing down a whole line on more than one occasion. she is, however, also known for being incredibly trustworthy and dependable. she is always a base in the most complicated lifts because it's a known fact that no one will get hurt if kristen is looking out for them. she also gives the best pre-skate pep talks and is who you want to go to if you're feeling disappointed after a rough competition!
For context, I started learn-to-skate classes when I was three, and I was a competive figure skater from probably age six until age seventeen. for a couple of years, i competed in both freeskate and ice dance, but ice dance is my true love and jumping scared me so i eventually dropped freeskate. i am currently a varsity skater on my university's team, and i have been for the last four years. at university, i mostly ice dance, but it's different. i also do synchro at university which rules! i was never a competitive synchro skater and i also never did pairs, so if my description of those events are inaccurate, i apologize! however, i have been so actively involved in this sport for so long so i hope they are not too far of the mark!
also, i really don't know who gorgug and fig's skating partners would be (because ice dance and pairs are partnered disciplines). i will update this if i do figure it out! also, on the same vein, i do not know who the other fifteen people on kristen's synchro team are.
also also! rippon jumps are named after adam rippon because a triple lutz with both arms above his head was kind of his signature move. adam rippon was also on dropout, in episode 5 of monet's slumber party! i haven't watched it but i was not expecting two distinct parts of my life to overlap in this way!
#fantasy high#figure skating#i would like to apologize for how many words i said...this quickly got out of hand

I'm so obsessed with kalina. She's riz's godmother. She's his nemesis from killing his dad. She's one of the scariest villains in the series. She's Cassandra's lil guy. She's evil only when the nightmare king is around. Ankarna thinks she's been bad all along. She's a disease. She's a familiar. She went undetected for centuries. Truly who's doing it like her.

I personally love the interpretation of Kristen being parentified and being not only a primary caretaker for her brothers (healing injuries, preparing their lunches, making their doctors appointments, handling issues with them at home, etc) but also not being allowed to be a child in any aspect of her life and being treated as a prophet from a young age
and I think a lot of people push back against that interpretation (which is fine, it's just a headcanon) because of how irresponsible she is in canon but that really does give me vibes of a teenager who has never been allowed to be a child before but was also never actually taught how to be an adult and is left floundering now that she has no real purpose, no pressure, no one to take care of.

so I was rewatching some clips of fantasy high S2, and I got to the iconic "it's gorgug, keep going" scene, and I'd like to focus instead on the part just before he says that. it's that intensely claustrophobic scene where gorgug drags himself through an underground tunnel of roots and dirt and skittering bugs.
maybe I'm overthinking it, but there's something here about gorgug seeing a space that's not made for him, that's too small and makes him uncomfortable, and instead of changing that space (there's a moment where Zac says gorgug briefly thinks about cutting down the trees, but decides against it) to make it more comfortable for him, he instead forces himself through it to his own detriment. kind of like how through his life, he has been moving through all these spaces that were not made for him and do not suit him and he has never asked to be accommodated for fear of being inconvenient, and instead quietly forces himself through the discomfort.
i think this is why being an artificer works so well for him. in conjuction with gaining his confidence, he is also choosing to pursue a path where builds and invents and changes the world to accommodate, because he deserves to be accomodated, rather than suffering in silence. this is why I was so insistent while s3 was coming out that porter was being an asshole not encouraging gorgug's foray into multiclassing into artificer. gorgug wasn't stubbornly making things harder for himself, him choosing to be an artificer was his way of making things better for himself, accommodating himself. being an artificer means inventing things, altering the world, and for gorgug, that meant altering this to suit himself, rather than trying to force himself into a space that didn't fit him.
