Sirius remembered you being that person in the class who was always picked on, who didn’t enjoy Hogwarts as much as the most of the other students did. Sirius hadn’t ever picked on you and towards the end of the time in Hogwarts, he even hung out with you because Lily was your friend, even though you weren’t his friend, you had had feelings for him, but never said them aloud. You usually were there, doing something and mostly ignoring everything that happened around you. You just sat there and always looked serious or pissed.

But you had changed. You smiled more, talked more and overall, you were a pleasant person. Only your looks had told Sirius it was you. He smiled at you at the restaurant as he listened to you rambling about your new work and the life you lived, how you felt happy. He hadn’t expected you to turn out like that, he hadn’t expected that you would have that kind of life. But he was happy for you - you seemed like you lived a happy life, you had gotten friends, you had gotten more social and you weren’t that person who was always quiet. You laughed with others as someone told a joke, you didn’t go into the shell anymore, pretending you didn’t exist. Your smile felt like it lit up the whole room and Sirius was impressed about your change, he would have never expected you to turn out like that. His schoolboy nature lifted its head a bit as he made a flirty joke at you, and you blushed, remembering your old feelings - and Sirius felt something too upon seeing your blush. You had changed, and now Sirius saw you differently - and maybe on that day, he developed some feelings towards you himself too.

The majority of the Uber ones mention in some way that they have your location on. Some you would pretend are messages someone left on your phone. Some have a script for you to follow along to on screen! Some are specific to who are calling you!

Color Magic 101: The Anatomy of Color

Welcome to lesson one in this series I’m creating for beginner Art Witches!

We have all seen and heard about color correspondences. Red = Anger/Passion Yellow = Happiness etc. but the truth is that there’s much more to color than just it’s name. The psychological effects of color, and therefore the magic we can do with it, are much more heavily influenced by those other components. So let’s take a look at the three components to color: Hue, Value, and Saturation.

Hue

Put simply Hues are the categories of color. They are the general name we refer to a color by. Sky blue and Midnight blue are very different colors but they both fall under the Hue Blue.

In the vast majority of magical practices this is as far as the study of color goes. There are many lists of correspondences associated with each Hue which include planets, days of the week, deities, etc.  

Begin a color journal- Start by listing Hues and what your personal associations are to each one. Does the color purple scare you? Does yellow calm you down? This information will be the basis of your color spellwork.

Value

Value refers to how light or dark a color is. It’s typically broken down in a 1-10 scale; the lighter range (called High Key colors) are referred to as Tints whereas the darker (Low Key) colors are called Shades. When creating art and visual spells there should be a full range of values throughout the piece. (unless specifically done otherwise for a purpose). When you want to draw attention to a particular area you can do that by creating high contrast there (very light values next to very dark values).

As you can see the image on the left, which has a full range of values (1-10), is far more eye-catching than the image on the right which has only the top 4 or so high key values. By putting the darkest black next to the lightest white in the eye area it creates an attention grabbing contrast and directs the viewer’s eye.   ….Last but not least…

Saturation/Chroma

This term is probably the most misused/misunderstood property of color. It refers to the intensity of the color. This is the range between pure color (most intense/vivid) and grey (no color, only value). This does NOT affect the value only the color.

The left image is very saturated, the colors are vivid and recognizable. The version on the right is very desaturated, almost completely colorless, but the values haven’t changed only the intensity of the color.

We have powerful emotional responses to these variations which, once we understand how to use them, can help us craft powerful spells.

Homework-

Color Journal- Grab some paper and a pen (doesn’t have to be fancy) and start critically analyzing your associations to color. What do you associate each hue with in general? Are there specific variations of that color that stand out to you? Which ones are more negative/positive? which ones do you feel most connected to? We’ll be getting into the science of favorite colors in the next lesson but for now get a baseline for your personal connection to color.

Create a Value Range- Just like the graphic here, get used to mixing your medium of choice into 10 separate values. You’ll gain more control with your medium and a better eye for full value ranges. You can use paint, ink, pastels, pencil, crayon, whatever you like to work with but keep it strictly to values, no color just yet. Record your experiences in your journal.

Saturation Survey- Find or make a series of images that are saturated and desaturated. What did you feel while making/finding them? What emotional impact does the color intensity have on you? Does a desaturated image look ghostly and creepy or soft and comforting? Do the vivid colors of a saturated image make you feel excited and amped or anxious and overwhelmed? Record your findings in your journal.

I hope you have a good understanding of the anatomy of color now. Try to incorporate some of the terminology we used when referring to color in your daily life to get used to categorizing them for later use. Maybe you want to use that high key desaturated yellow from the sunrise you saw in a spell for new beginnings and fresh starts! The next lesson will be exploring the science behind your favorite color so stay tuned.

Intro to Art Witchcraft

🎨A brief introduction🎨 The lovely @naomi121406 posted THIS intro to Sea witchcraft and I thought it might be helpful to do a similar post introducing Art Witchcraft! 

Art Witchcraft is a path of witchcraft focused around the use of color and the creation of physical forms of art imbued with magic.

This path can be catered towards whichever artistic medium you prefer: Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Digital, Traditional, Written etc. but typically involves an increased interest in sigil making, visual spellwork, Divination and utilizing the psychological effects of color for magical purposes.

🖌The Craft🖌

✍ The practice by itself is open to everyone with an interest in the arts.

✍ If you want to practice Art Witchcraft as a religion you can incorporate deities associated with artists and makers!    *Here is a list of art related deities to research if you’re interested.

✍ An Art Witch’s tools can be anything that you use within your current artistic works. You can dedicate a particular paintbrush to function as a wand, directing energy and intent into your visual spells. You can create sculptures of your guardians to place within your sacred space. Maybe you want to craft your own divination tools (i.e. runes, dice, tarot, oracle, pendulums etc) or wear specific clothes when working your magic or charge your papers, pencils, waters, clays etc. 

🖌How do you start?🖌

The first thing you’ll need is a strong love for creation, from there its just a matter of developing what works for you. Here’s some ideas to get you started:

✍ As in any other type of witchcraft, you’ll want to read as much as you can: study anatomy, do studies from life/nature, study art history, read about the psychology of color. The path of a witch is one of constant learning!

✍ You can also start gathering your tools. A sketchbook and pencil is a great place to begin. I highly recommend keeping a journal to track your development. Record your tarot readings, what you learned from each piece of art you create, and any interesting bits of information you run across. Ideas are the beginnings of art magic so find a way to develop and record your ideas!

✍ In your Grimoire/sketchbook you can write down your personal color correspondences, the artists you admire/emulate and what you like about their work, herbs or plant life that you find inspiring, crystals (there are tons of ways to incorporate them into your craft) and much more! 

✍ When you’re ready, you can start spellcrafting! Your first spells may involve protection spells, dedications for your tools, creativity or inspiration spells, easy things so you can get protected and start getting some practice. My personal recommendation for art witches is a self-dedication ritual where you, after creating a sacred space, make a commitment to yourself (or a deity) to devote yourself to the study and practice of art magic. *This is completely optional*

✍ As an Art Witch, you may want to do some more witchy things daily. Some ideas can be: Sketch or study everyday, incorporate color correspondences into your life, practice sigil making, watch art tutorials, write affirmations, or meditate/visualize to flex those creative muscles. Create a studio space (even a small or temporary one) to work magic in.

✍ Many Art Witches also work with Candle Magic, Nature/Weather Magic and Divination, so learn about those or any other areas of interest to you. Everything you experience will inform your artwork!

✍ Remember that Art Witchcraft is about loving the process of creation and your expression through it. So don’t be afraid to experiment, take risks, and always be in the process of improvement. Learning to take critique, or give it to yourself, is critical!

ok but can you imagine a worse, more terrifying fate than medusa’s one? just imagine. first of all you’re raped in your goddess’ temple. which, apart from the obvious trauma, means you can’t keep doing what you devoted your entire life to. your goddess gifts you with the ability to turn those you look at into stone and your hair into snakes so that you can defend yourself and be a threat rather than a victim to men. and then?????? a fucking MAN decides hes gonna hunt you down and slaughter you for…. sport like just because he can?????? and not only does he kill you but he keeps your head as a weapon???????? effectively using you and your body for his own purpose exactly like your rapist??????????????? like??? and this man is considered a hero while you’ll be remembered as a monstruous, dangerous entity???????????????????? medusa deserved better smh
