Once one was fed and rested, the hare would lead them to a bird guarding the well. The bird would tell them of the dangers and fortunes that could be found at the bottom of it, of the vicious beast and the piles of gold. Then it would ask the adventurer, "Do you wish to enter?"

Aug 30 to Sept 3 - Teacher Training ✧ Productively Challenged 30-34/50
Unexpectedly went from summer vacation into a 8 AM - 3 PM schedule for teacher training at the new school... Half the lectures were spent taking notes, the other half I spent doodling b/c I was bored out of my mind. The principal was like 'You guys are losing your minds sitting for a lecture for 4 hours now imagine those kids. They're here everyday for longer than you.' I really like him, he is stern and scary but you can tell he cares about all the kids.
As always, august skies don't disappoint.

"But how can the climate hurt a language? The sea will not suddenly swallow an entire linguistic community in one gulp, dying words left bobbing upon the waves. The speakers will leave their islands before that happens. In fact, a changing climate, whether through rising seas, drought or catastrophic storms, will probably never be the sole culprit in a language’s death.
Rather, the threat of the climate emergency is the threat of forced migration. As a population is compelled to abandon its lands and move into a new community – a neighbouring village, a refugee camp, an urban centre – its Indigenous language becomes harder to sustain."

Ivan Kupala Day (and Night) Celebration
День Івана Купала - den Evan-a Koopala - Ivan Kupala's Day
__________________________
Did you know that on July 7 many Ukrainians celebrate the Ivan Kupala Day?
Traditionally, this day (a pagan celebration, essentially) has been closely celebrated during the summer solstice but nowadays most people associate it with July :)
Why? Well, it has to do with two factors: 1) after conversion to Christianity Orthodox Church tried merging some pagan celebrations with the Christian ones in order to "ease" the religious shift (Ukraine used to be pagan back in the day and most people weren't thrilled about the change.). 2) Ukrainian Orthodox Church used two calendars until recently: both Gregorian and the old Julian, yet the Julian calendar was seemingly a bit more popular. This resulted in a date shift.

28.05: planning a three month long break; using a mug that's been lying on my shelf unused since forever; making some progress on my reading; creating my portfolio
i have about three months before my masters begins, and i want to use it extensively to learn subjects that i don't get to study academically or professionally. i'm also planning to learn sanskrit. i don't have a lot of confidence for it, but i'm gonna try anyway.
self study requires so much discipline. being a designer, my graduation in the design field didn't require me to "study" as much. in fact, i've not had a written exam in like 6 years. i did have a lot of presentations, case studies and juries though, which seems worse to me. but i think that's a classic case of the grass being greener on the other side.
my neurodivergent brain created a massive list of hobbies to pursue, subjects to learn and books to read. i'm really excited for the next three months though, it's all about how i plan and prioritise the things i want to do. (i won't, it's gonna be a chaotic hot mess but let's humour my enthusiasm).
