Sonic Sci-Fi AU: Chaos Theory

After some thought, I decided to write out the Sonic Sci-Fi AU in a fanfic format on AO3. The story is heavily based around the AU I've drawn up here on Tumblr with a couple of changes here and there, not an exact 1:1, but those are only in minor details.

I hope you enjoy it, only written the prologue so far to kinda establish the setting.

Sonic Sci-Fi AU: Sonic the Hedgehog, Wanderer

Once a tribal on an Unexplored Planet, Sonic the Hedgehog lived a boring life until one day, the Eggman Combine attacked, planning to turn his planet into a toxic waste dump. After beating it back, however, he came to be seen as a saviour and messiah to his people.

Something he wanted none of, so sneaking onto a departing Eggman Combine shuttle, he snuck away to avoid that fate. Now he has the entire Known and Unknown Universe to explore as he wishes.

Not as proficient with technology as the average person, he's still able to grasp the essentials and equip himself with Enviro-Rings to protect himself against hazardous environments, and Mag-Sneakers to run even in low or zero gravity.

Sonic Sci-Fi AU: Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, CEO of the Eggman Combine

A man older than some societies in the universe, his life extended by a drug of his own creation, called Vigor. Synthesised using Chaos Dust and a process known only to him, with a single hit priced at nearly equivalent to a small starship.

Thousands of years of using it, combined with inactivity and dependence on machines, have left him immobile from sheer mass. It's only through anti-gravity technology he can even lif his hands to reach for his daily dose of Vigor.

With Eggman Combine supplying his sector of the universe with practically half the components they need for everyday life, he has the power to rival entire governments. Many overlook his crimes of oppressing lesser developed tribal societies so that they won't be cut off from his supply lines. While far from the most powerful man in the universe, his power is more than assured.

But that had led to stagnation, without any threat to his power. And he would have remained compliant if not for events on a distant planet. One he saw to use as a toxic waste dump, where his forces were beaten back by a single tribal, blue hedgehog.

Sonic Sci-Fi AU: Visions of Blue

Amy Rose's role was simple: to guide and advise a potential heir to the Sol Empire throne. Like many of her brothers and sisters of the Pythian Order, they were assigned a mission to the Empire under direct orders by the Pythia. None of the Heirs or even the Emperor must know their purpose here, although they might suspect.

She was assigned to Princess Blaze. It wasn't a disagreeable arrangement, Blaze wasn't as pompous as other nobles she was used to. Unlike most, she chose not to have an entourage, wanting to do everything on her own. Fighting her own battles against bandits and beasts out in the frontier, to earn the favour from common folk and influence through her martial prowess.

While it was dangerous, it wasn't her role to decide, but to advise only and provide aid with her foresight abilities. Her predictions via her tarot cards have proven their worth time and time again, but lately they've been... vague to say the least. They spoke of what she can only interpret as a warrior's arrival, but something felt like it wasn't referring to Blaze in particular.

With her cards offering no further insight, she turns to visions instead by deactivating her regulator implant. All members of the Order had them implanted to avoid unintentional visions of the future, but unlike predictions with mediums that had to be interpreted, visions were sometimes much clearer.

Several nights of thrashing and screaming later, however, she's just as frustrated as she was when starting. Probably more considering her headaches. All she could determine was that her visions involve something, or perhaps someone, blue.

Nova the Hedgehog, Survivor of the Revelation.

The great-granddaughter of Sonic the Hedgehog and Amy Rose, as well as Silver the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat. Growing up, all she ever knew was life in the Revelation. When the Four Horsemen arose long after the passing of many of the world's greatest heroes, they brought war, pestilence, famine, and death across the globe.

Her own parents had tried fighting them, but their enemies were too strong. This left Nova to grow up with her grandfather, Lucian the Hedgehog (Son of Silver and Blaze). For twelve years, they ran across the world, striking whenever they could to free the people, inspire resistance, and do anything to resist... But it was all for naught.

After assassinating War at the cost of Lucian's life, Nova was left to flee with the remaining three hounding her. As fast as she could, faster than she ever had, she ran. All the while wishing she could have the power to change everything.

It would be fortunate it turned out she inherited more from her great-grandfather than she thought.

Sonic Sci-Fi AU: First Meeting

Across a universe filled with Descended Mobians, there were going to be a few abnormalities amongst them. Either caused by mutations from their living conditions, intentional by genetic tampering, or any other reason. 'Mutants' or 'Genefreaks' as they were called, and depending on the society they grew up in, their treatment differed just as much.

Miles Prower was one such mutant, although it wasn't as disfiguring or crippling as some other mutations, it was still enough that everywhere he went on his planet, he was met with scorn. Even from his own parents.

His parents had tried to love him; they really did. But centuries of genetic purity ideology instilled was hard to shake off, and they likely realised that when they gave him a ticket off-world and told him to leave.

So Miles climbed aboard the System-class ship, filled with trepidation but honest excitement as well for his new life. But upon climbing aboard, his skills with machinery were quickly noticed by the crew, and he was offered a place there after a previous systems engineer died in a freak accident involving stray debris while repairing external hardware.

It was hard work, dangerous work even, but for once, Miles found something close to being at peace with his place in the universe. If he had to spend the rest of his life just fixing stuff on a ship he could be satisfied... even if it still felt like something was missing.

As he climbs into his cryopod, however, for a long trip towards another distant system, he never expects his life to take a turn again for the better. Especially when it involved a blue hedgehog forcibly waking him up from cryosleep and saying the fateful words;

"So, long story, we'll talk later! You're the only one I could find that's still on board with a job title that sounds smart enough. Do you know how to disarm an anti-matter warhead stuffed in a suitcase?"

Sonic was the name given to him by the tribal elders of his homeworld. From what little lessons he had bothered listening to as a child, he learnt that they descended from the skies, with their ancestors hurling down from the heavens in balls of fire.

He always wondered why his ancestors would leave whatever was up in the skies for a boring place like the plains, and many times he tried to find a way up. If his ancestors could find a way down, doesn't it make sense they could do the opposite?

It had always felt just too small for him. The endless plains and mountains, the occasional lakes and few forests, the rare caves and metal ruins... He had seen it all, but it just wasn't enough.

Little did he know, one day after returning to the tribe from a hunting trip, he was going to get his wish...

“You come around here often, handsome?”

Sonic the Hedgehog didn’t expect to find another hedgehog running around the ruins like he was, especially with the whole world breaking apart right now (which wasn’t a problem for him, but most people think travelling at such a time would be insane).

And he certainly didn’t expect her to immediately start flirting with him the moment their eyes met.

When she was younger, Amy Rose wasn’t as good with her tarot cards as she was now. The first time she tried reading her future it told her that she would meet the hero of her dreams at Neverlake when Little Planet manifested.

So she packed up as soon as possible and left, arriving to find some kind of battle had clearly taken place given the broken chain and machinery. So she waited and waited and waited until the day sky turned into night.

Then she realised her hero wasn’t going to show up. She must have interpreted the cards wrongly. Yet Amy wasn’t deterred, she would keep practising her magical skills until one day she could get it right and meet her destined hero for real.

Years later she was a famous stage magician known relatively well across the world. A celebrity who was renowned for her dead accurate predictions with tarots, but mastery over magic. Hundreds flood the halls she performed at, talk shows fighting over who gets to host her.

Yet in the back of her mind she was still unsatisfied. She never got the same reading again, regarding her destined hero, and slowly that dream faded in the corner of her mind. Until one day the whole world split into seven pieces and her cards mirrored the same flawed tarot reading she received all those years ago.

This was a sign, and so with all the haste she could muster she sought out towards the temple ruins her cards were guiding her too. This time she will meet her long-awaited destined hero.

[An AU I thought of where Amy never met Sonic, and instead of focusing on strength she focused on developing her magic. Think of it like Dr Strange from Marvel and Zatanna from DC]
