Microaggression
The look they give me
Their stares send a clear message
I do not belong

American-born outcast
I fell back in time
I am on a field
I am a part of the circle but I feel surrounded inside it
Their laughs pierce my existence because of the way I talk
American-born and yet they still see me as a foreigner
Their laughs place barriers, preventing me from entering the land
The land that did not belong to them
The land they stole
I try to laugh back
I plead and beg to please accept my laughter
To accept me
But, I realized that day
I am an American-born outcast

Shattered Expectations
I had an initial vision
That everyone would be harmonious
That things can be simple
But that did not happen
I was upset
Afraid
Soon, I come to realize
That it’s not a bad thing
That I can do what I want
Without worrying about everything being in harmony
I know one thing for sure
There are people who I don’t want to rely on
But can still be a part of my life
This is my life
I will do what is best for me
And I don’t need your approval

My Dad
He was in front of us
We criticized him
He was trying
We got annoyed
My Dad isn’t the type to verbalize his love
He shows it
But I didn’t see that
I was clouded by anger
Angry that he wasn’t like the other Dads
Other Dads understood their children
But I was the one who didn’t understand him
When he did want to build a bridge
I broke it down
I’m sorry Dad
I wished I’ve known that you did understand me
You took care of me through your way of love
You cooked me my favorite food My Ga
You worked long hours to provide for the family
You ran away from your country so that I can live the life I want
I love you Dad
I love you so so much
I promise to always love you and to be a better son for you.
I love you so much

Many atheletes have injuries where they require months to heal. Of course comparing your situation to their’s may or may not be appropriate but it puts things into perspective. It’s okay to give yourself some time to rest and heal. Don’t rush it if your body can’t do it. You’ll just add more stress.
