I've been hard at work the last month making Ashes to Ashley, a cute comic about shoegaze and gender.

Klutæ - I Wanna Fuck Now 2012
Claus Larsen sure is a productive guy. Leæther Strip is the project is the one he is known for, but he has several other projects. One of them is Klutæ, the longest running project.
I Wanna Fuck Now apparently was a bonus track on Leæther Strip best album Satanic Reasons from 2005, titled as Klutæ song.
EXEcution seems to be another compilation album. 2012 version of the sounds so much richer to my ears.
Certainly not something I want to hum to myself on the public XD

Synapscyhe - The Last Dying Flame (feat. Chris Harms)
youtube
Synapsyche is a band I listen sometimes, but not on full repeat. They can make good songs though :D
Nice to hear Chris Harms is doing guest vocals for smaller projects in the scene, even though he is a big name nowadays.

Thirty years ago today, my favorite album and one of the most important albums in rock was unleashed onto the world. During one particular Hole show, Courtney Love answered a male heckler with "You want to fuck me? I'm not a woman, I'm a fucking force of nature!". In these twelve songs, listeners all over the world got to hear for themselves what a force of nature Courtney truly is.
The first time I heard Courtney Love screaming in "Violet", I felt like my soul had been ripped in half. I was an angry kid from a broken, abusive home, and her ability to wail into the aether resonated with me in a way that nothing else did. The older I got, the more her lyrics made sense to me, and I came to identity with this album not just for its angry moments, but its fragile moments as well.
Courtney spent much of her childhood being passed around between family members, group homes, juvenile centers, etc. because nobody wanted her or knew what to do with her. At the age of fifteen, the vice principal of my high school waited until I walked ahead, turned to my mom, and asked, "What's wrong with her?". Well, Vice Principal, a lot was wrong with me, and I wasn't interested in hiding it.
Courtney Love never hid all of her flaws back then, and she still doesn't. In a 2010 interview, she quipped "Maybe I'm just 'deeply wounded'...maybe that's why screaming feels so fucking good". Likewise, listening to Courtney scream gave me the courage to scream too, and now I'm doing it in front of other people semi-regularly.
To this day, the Vice Principals of the music industry are still mouthing "What's wrong with her?" about Courtney, and they don't even try to hide it. The truth is that she is the embodiment of a phoenix, rising from the ashes time and time again. She survived when most predicted she wouldn't. She lives through this, and she'll keep living, and ultimately, so will I.
Something is wrong with us, and thank god for that.

Lady Gaga - Judas (My confused feelings towards Gaga)
youtube
I was scrolling through Twitter yesterday and one tweet popped on my feed.
Tumblr media
13 years ago... I was just about to graduate from gymnasium and was in my early 20's. Back then I sure avoided pop music like a plague and was in my video game music-metal period.
I knew Lady Gaga and knew some their hits. Bad Romance, Born This Way. Never really gave them thoughtful listen. And I based my opinions on them (and many others) on music reviews on YouTube. I disliked them?
But when I actually listened Judas with thought yesterday, I sure loved it :D Thumping, almost oppressing dance rythym, tight aggressive snyth melody, distorted bass... On the surface, dance pop. Wikipedia said electro house.
But it has slight industrial feeling. Could imagine some parts in futurepop song.
Also Gaga's aesthetic back then. I was feeling weird about them. I didn't hate them, even though something somewhere said I should? But damn, music videos are so joy to watch! So expressive, queer. Deep down I loved them.
Maybe I should look other pop acts from early 2000's? I have learned to listen other types of music. And many elements crossover so much.

CatCat - Yksin Sateeseen (and its many versions)
youtube
I was visiting my parents for Easter. We brought some stuff to dad's seasonal cafeteria. Radio was on and song that started playing caught my attention.
Dramatic start. Female vocals. Danceable. 90's sound. What is this song?! Why I haven't heard of it before? I went in closer to hear the lyrics. Quick search revealed it was CatCat's Yksin Sateeseen.
CatCat is a Finnish dance pop group formed in early 90's. They represented Finland in Eurovision in 1994 with their song "Bye Bye Baby"
Sure has a classic quality. Danceable, melancholic sound. Could be described as danceable iskelmä (schlager), which is popular in Finland.
However, it's not the only version of the song! Another Finnish electronic music legend Hausmylly made a cover of it on their 2005 album "Sateesta Aurinkoon"
youtube
Actually I was directed to this version first, when I searched the song by the lyrics. It's more energetic, with slight vocal effects and more guitar driven. Actually I enjoy this cover, well done Hausmylly! Actually I haven't really listened Hausmylly ever, are they any good?
CatCat did a celebratory version of the song on their 25th anniversary album.
youtube
Why are they always smiling like that...
I don't think this works. Very high energy, but it lacks something?
I think I enjoy the original most, Hausmylly cover coming close second. Maybe I should listen radio more to discover old Finnish dance classics?

KUUMAA - Tuhoaisti
youtube
Very synthpoppy song. Although they look like a 2000's electro industrial or futurepop band on the single cover XD
