Not to start shit or anything but the fact that Lynda (who is otherwise funny, original, and has a clear motive) is so maligned by the fandom for being kinda insensitive on accident or sometimes just rude on purpose— meanwhile Anastasia has a massive fanbase that excuses her worse actions (lying to Marissa about getting the advantage, being physically aggressive with other players like Benji and especially Ivy) as “iconic” or “Queen behavior”— feels kinda ageist ngl. Like the Disventure Camp fanbase loves writing off older characters as either support or one-note villains even when they’re incredibly complex; Miriam literally overcame grief and won a season and I barely ever see fanart, let alone Fanfiction, for her— and this is to say nothing of how Richard is probably the least popular COC character despite staying longer than characters like Alessio and Diego, winning two challenges for his team, leading his alliance after Ted left, and forming friendships with other beloved characters like Logan and Tristan. The only popular character I can think of over the age of 50 that the fandom really fucks with is Connor, and pretty much all the fan content I see of him revolves around him being in a relationship with Alec. Like it really feels like the fandom will do anything to ignore or demonize older characters and it sucks— even Karol, who’s only in her 40s and was honestly an amazing villain, tends to get sidelined as a grouchy old lady. I’m not saying it’s ageist to not like Lynda or any older character, nor am I saying it’s bad to like or dislike any character really— like with the example I gave of Anastasia earlier, I actually really like Anastasia and think she’s a good morally gray character, and I understand why she has such a large fanbase, even if I still think it’s weird to excuse her actions towards Ivy especially (dude her shoulder was fucked upppp Anastasia was a little evil for that ngl like guys you can still like her even if you admit that was fucked up, which it was)— but like, idk, this isn’t an issue of “um well older characters just aren’t as well written” or wtv because a lot of Disventure Camp’s older characters are well-written in my opinion, or at least just as well-written as a lot of the popular younger characters like Jake, Gabby, Tom, or Ellie. And the fact that so many people feel the need to insult Lynda specifically based on her age really shows me that at least a worrying handful of Disventure Camp fans do have some biases against older people and I don’t think that’s okay. Idk if this really made sense but I just wish people would look at why exactly they dislike a character, past the surface level. If you hate Lynda for doing bad shit, or find Richard boring, or reduce Miriam to a cute little old lady— but then you love when Riya and Ellie and Yul are kinda mean, or can easily make stories for Dan or Nick or Kai in your head, or can see Jake as more than a sad little baby or Tom as more than a bumbling himbo or Aiden as more than Some Fucking Dude— then maybe it’s time to ask yourself why that is. And if the answer has nothing to do with ageism, that’s fine, good even, but just try and ask it to start
