Shadows Of The Past

“…Dalv, are you okay?..”

Orpheus had been writing quietly up until now. There was music in the background- Dalv was practicing- but when it came to an abrupt halt, that was what worried him. His head peeked around the corner towards his friend.

“…Why won't you leave me be? I have said my apologies.”

The other hadn’t paid any mind to his arrival. Rather, he was speaking to a young girl- someone Orpheus had seen around very briefly, and spoken to once or twice- but the concerning part was, Dalv HIMSELF was speaking to her. While the vampire hadn’t noticed him approach, it seems she did.

“It’s you.”

Orpheus jolted, softly glowing eyes meeting hers. Her form was blurry, but he could make her out well enough. Talking to Dalv could wait.

“…Yeah, it-it’s me. Are you- oh who am I kidding you aren’t okay you’re here for a reason- w..why are you here? Did something happen?...”

“I didn’t know you were here. I’ll go.”

“Wait, that- that’s not an answer-? hang on-!”

She was already gone by the time he finished his sentence. Orpheus frowned, worry etched on his face. That… wasn’t normal. Faint darkness hazed the edge of his vision, and he could barely make her out this time around. He was pushing it.

“Orpheus, could you... could you see her?”

Dalv had watched the interaction with wide eyes. For himself, it made sense why she was visible, but why Orpheus? He hadn’t been anywhere near the incident, let alone known who else was involved, but here he was. That conversation wasn't one-sided. Dalv looked over as the other's eyes darted away.

“…The shadows of the past will only make themselves visible to some. They pick and choose unless something overrides their choice."

"What.. What do you mean?"

Orpheus looked back towards Dalv, and froze. He stared. Three sets of eyes stared back. His voice was hauntingly quiet as he met the gaze of the vampire.

"...I have to see all of them."
