read somewhere that the big diff this time around is that the united healthcare CEO shooter, whether thats mangione or not, is a disaffected young man with a gun who correctly identified the guy making him miserable, instead of taking his misery out on the more vulnerable people around him. like we get a lot of shooters in the states, this iota of clarity really is something new.

reading a social network analysis study of Chinese rural villages that explains how people categorise others into 7 levels of affinity which roughly translate as: "close family, family, close friends, friends, close acquaintances, acquaintances, and people you nod at". if English had words for all these I think the world would be better
#THANK YOU#as a linguistics nut that last bit pained me#thats like saying 'we have an english word for saudade' and then rattling off the definition#the whole point of language is that it can describe an infinite amount of concepts with finite vocabularies#we can describe until the cows come home#but ohr vocabulary doesnt have a single word to encompass the concept. we need many#*our#thats the difference#when a concept has a word it's bc its culturally significant#on such a large scale that the language speakers unconsciously and collectively decided it was needed#why use 'besties' when you could use 'person who i am really close to and spend an inordinate amount of time with'#besties are too important and universally understood for us all to be using that clunky phrase all the time#we all know the people we will nod at when we see them. so why no word?#ramble over sorry

I swear to god one of these days were going to see a video of Amaury Guichon and he's going to be making some wings and they are going to look dope as hell, the detail of each feather will be breathtaking, he'll spray paint them to perfection, but as the video goes on, he's not building any sort of winged creature, just the wings. And then there's a human-sized harness (also made of chocolate, somehow, he can do it). And he's attaching the wings to the harness. And he's putting the harness on and he demonstrates how he can flap the wings. And then he'll be off. Out the window and up and up and up. And we'll be looking at the livestream (it's a livestream now) and we'll scream "No, Amaury, the sun! It's going to melt the wings!". But he knows this already. And he is free.

In other news, the ‘Hawk Tuah’ lassie launched a cryptocurrency meme coin called $HAWK and it crashed from $500M to $60M in twenty minutes in what appears to be a very obvious rug pull scam.
People who have lost their life savings want to see her thrown in jail.
