Realized it’s been a very long time since I shared any of my art, but I promise I’m still making stuff. I’ve been keeping the bulk of it kind of quiet because I’m hoping to turn it into a show sometime and want to save what I’ve been working on to release whenever that happens, but I can’t keep this guy to myself.
Introducing FishInShorts.

Maxwell Klinger in his Scarlet O’Hara dress, gouache, 4x6 inches
My most recent painting for @jordanillustrates’ Artober challenge. I was struggling to come up with an idea for “Golden + Mist” but I put on an episode of MASH and decided to lean hard into the word golden and paint one of my favorite characters.

Turk’s Turban Squash, gouache on paper, 4x6 inches, for @jordanillustrates’ Artober prompt “Gourd + Squirrel.” I’ve always loved the shapes and colors of these squash! Also I cranked this one out in like 20 minutes while watching Jeopardy a few days ago.

For @jordanillustrates’ Artober prompt “Fungi + Ghost” I painted my Dungeons and Dragons character, Cheddar, having a chat with their grandfather, who clearly happens to be a ghost. Having a ghost for a grandfather is what inspired Cheddar to become a necromancer, as they hoped they could also cheat death in order to hang out with their family an unnaturally long time. Cheddar is the friendliest necromancer you’ll probably ever encounter.
Cheddar is a gnome, and gnomes love nicknames; Cheddar’s legal name is actually Amanita, which happens to be the genus name of the incredibly cute and deadly mushrooms included in this painting. I think “incredibly cute and deadly” is an appropriate description of Cheddar as well.
This painting is 6x6 inches and done with gouache and ink on paper.

Apple and honey, gouache on paper, 6x6 inches
I’ve been really enjoying the Artober prompts @jordanillustrates put together this year! The words chosen feel very cozy and gave me some fun ideas, and I appreciated the idea of doing one prompt every three days instead of daily. I’ve still managed to fall behind, but I’ve still made more paintings in the last few weeks than I usually do. As another artist friend of mine said, “If it gets us to make more art than we normally would, then we are winning!”
This is the list of prompts:
In case it wasn’t obvious, this one was done for “Harvest + Apples.”
I’m going to post everything I’ve done so far, so come back for more!

You know, I had all these ideas for couples to draw during pride month, and here we are halfway through July and I’ve finally finished the second one. Ah well, the series will continue regardless of what month it is.
Please enjoy a surprise Taakitz kiss. Have you picked up your Crystal Kingdom graphic novel yet?

I started a new sketchbook this week, and since it’s Pride Month, I decided to pay homage to some of my favorite fictional queer couples, both canonical and non.
Zuko and Sokka have the honor of being the first.
