NEW ART BLOG!

so i’ve been trying to break myself out of some bad art habits, largely perfectionism, and i realized one of the big things that would help me would be to have a place where stuff that i’ve polished to a fault isn’t such an overwhelming norm. so– new blog! with a little of my older stuff, but plenty of room for the new. expect more sketchdumps and rougher bits in the future, right alongside my fancier stuff.

hey y’all i’m not dead

so for the last few months i’ve been dealing with a lot of wrist pain, which at this point i’m absolutely certain is carpal tunnel syndrome setting in. it doesn’t help that my shitty retail job is pretty much all hand/wrist strain all the time in addition to being a general soul-sucking exhausting mess. i have plans to quit once rush ends for my own well-being so we’ll see how that goes, and hopefully once that happens i’ll be able to focus on letting my wrist heal. until then, though, this blog is probably gonna be keeping up its inactivity streak. can’t exactly commit to anything more polished than quick pencil sketches when just about anything i do with my dominant hand ends up being painful.

tl;dr my wrist is effed up don’t expect a whole lot of art out of me

Excerpt from Gold and Glass: A History of Danaean Art, 500 AS to Present by S. Deverro:

During [Jora] Zelimir's time as a court artist, he produced a number of smaller pieces depicting the events of high society that didn't demand all his tools. The image above is by far the best-known of his court vignettes--a spontaneous portrait of General Berenice Catorian and Lady Aja Renaud at the imperial New Year's ball of 1096, drawn in ink and gold paint. It only gained widespread attention after 1105, once their affair--and their roles as influential turncoats in the revolution that began five years before--came to public light. The image was popularly labeled "The Toast" and reproduced, and it soon became a cultural symbol for generations to come.

"The Toast" may have taken years to gain notability, but Zelimir had apparent reason to remember it. His personal diary alleges that soon after the sketch was finished, the General made a crude innuendo involving cannons which resulted in Lady Renaud snorting wine out of her nose.
