saw a post on here a few days ago (cannot for the life of me find it) that was like "you can't really blame kids for saying 'proship = problematic ship' because when you look up the meaning on google, it says that's what it means", and? honestly? while i don't disagree w the point that post was making, i think that's part of the reason why people are like this.

like, the first thing that shows up for me is the google AI overview, which says the following:

but if you take three seconds to click the link to where the AI is getting this from, it leads you to a think piece by someone who, to simplify, labels themselves as an anti. same as the toyhou.se link, which also comes from people with very clearly predefined biases, who call proshippers weirdos and pedophiles.

my point is, they're not really looking for what the words mean, they're not looking for information, or knowledge. they're looking for their opinions to be reaffirmed. they don't go to any of the other sites that show up when you look up the definition because they don't tell them what they want to hear.

it wouldn't matter if it did have the correct definition bc as long as it doesn't fit their narrative, they don't believe it. they don't want to actually dig further, or god forbid, admit they're wrong.
