Delaware has just elected their first-ever openly trans State Senator, Sarah McBride.

Missouri just elected their first-ever black woman to serve as Congresswoman, Cori Bush.

And Minnesota just re-elected Ilhan Omar, the first naturalized citizen of African birth and the first woman of color to represent Minnesota in Congress.

one time this nondescript guy came into my dunkin donuts and ordered a small black coffee with blueberry flavor shot, and for some reason that peculiar order stuck with me so much that when, seven months later, i saw him in the parking lot walking towards the door, i quickly made a small black coffee with blueberry flavor shot. he ordered it and i was already holding it. 

i would describe his demeanor that second time as “incredulous”

Having Ehlers Danlos Syndrome sometimes feels about the equivalent of being composed of jello and wet spaghetti. Nothing stays where its supposed to. Literally every single cell in the body is floppy, so fingers are definitely an issue for many of us. I can almost guarantee that for the majority of us, writing is not only slow and painful but nearly impossible at times. FIne motor skills? What even are those? An EDSer surely doesn’t have any of those. Even typing which is far easier than writing, is painful and daunting at times. But last year I joined the population of shiny zebras by getting fitted for a set of Silver Rings Splints and they are beyond magical.

For those of you who have not heard of The Silver Ring Splint Company, they are a company that custom makes finger splints that look like elegant pieces of jewelry. Don’t believe me? Well I can’t even tell you how many compliments I’ve received for them. Nobody even suspects that they might possibly be medical. But more importantly, they work amazing! I still have hand pain and finger dislocations when performing fine motor skills and writing is definitely not something I look forward to but I have saved myself thousands of painful dislocations, I can open doors easier, type faster, write longer and hold objects in my hands without looking like an alien from a sic-fi movie. With the rings on my fingers actually look like fingers rather than tentacles!

The company is also family owned and the people are so sweet and helpful!

Note to myself/potentially other systems: you don’t have to have all your parts be highly elaborated [i.e. know what your parts/alters look like, what their names are, etc.] I’ve been talking to my therapist about this lately and how ‘weird’ it is that I ‘don’t know my [own] alters’, and as she pointed out, My system was made this way for a reason. It was safest that way. (She also told me to “Trust my parts”, which she says all the time.)

For me? My system has a lot of unnamed parts, and it ‘sounds’ internally like people talking over each other, and some song lyrics and book quotes. Most of my alters don’t have names or images unless they want to. (As frustrating as that is for me.)

I know a lot of the systems online seem to have a lot of parts with their own names, interests, sexualities, etc. but not everyone’s system is like that! You don’t have to try to make your system like that if that’s not how yours works!! I see all these positivity posts about “you don’t have to have separate names for all your parts” but it still feels rare/untalked about to me.
